Palm Beach State College recognizes the efforts of child care and a erschool professionals in Palm Beach County to provide quality care for young children and youth.

40 HOUR SCHOOL‐AGE CERTIFICATION (PSAV) This training is ideal for individuals working in an a erschool se ng serving children 5 years and up. Par cipants successfully comple ng the cer fica on requirements for both Part I and Part II will receive their 40‐hour cer fica on.

SCHOOL–AGE PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION (SAPC) Upon successful comple on of the program, students are awarded the SAPC from the Florida Department of Educa on. The SAPC is recognized as a Florida staff creden al. Graduates also may receive college credits toward Palm Beach State’s Associate in Science degree program in Human Services, with a concentra on in Youth Development.

PART I – School Age Program Cer fica on (HEV0803) Part I will focus on State rules and regula ons; health, safety and nutri on; iden fying and repor ng child abuse; and school age appropriate prac ces. Part I requires that the par cipant pass a competency exam with a score of 70% or higher given by Department of Children & Families. (DCF)

Course Descrip on: This training is ideal for individuals working in an a er‐school se ng serving children 5 years and up. The en re course is based on competency performance, full par cipa on by the candidate, ques onnaires, observa ons, interview and a Por olio and Resource File compiled by the candi‐date as part of the course. Par cipants successfully comple ng the en re course curriculum Module I and II plus an observa on will receive the School Age Professional Cer ficate.

Pre‐requisites: SAPC Informa on Session 40‐Hour School‐Age Cer fica on Part I and Part II Curriculum (AYD) Training Program or 40‐ Hour Introductory Child Care Cer fica on with AYD training High School diploma or GED equivalent on file at the college Employed in a licensed childcare se ng or a erschool program caring for school‐age children ages 5 – 12 years old 480 hours of work experience in an a erschool program working with children ages 5 and up

within the past 5 years (80 of these hours must be completed while enrolled in the training program)

18 years of age High School Diploma or GED

SAPC Observa on: A 2 hour Formal Observa on of the candidate by the Instructor during normal days when the candidate fulfills a leadership role in working with children and demonstrates com‐petence as indicated in the Florida School‐Age Cer fica on Training Program Competency Stand‐ards. Evalua ons will be completed by the Instructor through competency fulfillment, Por olio and Resource File comple on and review, and successful observa on and interview by Instructor. This observa on must be completed before the end of Module II at candidate worksite. Time to be determined by Advisor/Instructor and Candidate.

Career Path Notes: A Student who has earned a Department of Educa on SAPC Cer ficate, completed 15 college credits at Palm Beach State College towards their degree and has a program objec ve code of 6387 (Associate in Science Degree: Human Services ‐ Youth Development Concentra on), will be eligible for ar cula on into 3 college credits upon request. The credits will be for the following course: HUS1620‐Principles and Best Prac ces in A erschool Programs.
