Lastly, we were invited to
perform at the Market on
Macleod. Many of our MAG,
WAG, and Acro athletes showed
off their tumbling and acrobatic
skills to the farmers market
community. Thank you for your
dedication and efforts to support
AGC events. All hours spent at
these events count towards your
volunteer commitment.
On Friday, August 1st, AGC was
invited to perform at the Calgary
Stampeders pre-game show.
With the help of parents and
athletes in the WAG, MAG,
Acro, and T&T programs we
came together and performed a
spectacular show for the home
crowd!
This was an amazing opportunity
and I would like to thank all the
parents who volunteered their
time and labor to make this
event happen. The home crowd
loved our performance and the
Stampeders were thoroughly
impressed with our performance.
After the show we all enjoyed
the Stampeders take on the BC
Lions in a close game.
Earlier this summer we all came
together to perform an
exhibition at the Mackenzie
Town Stampede BBQ event. This
was a wonderful opportunity for
our athletes to get to show off all
their hard work and skills to the
Mackenzie Town community. I
would like to thank all the
parents who volunteered their
time to help make this event
possible. I would also like to
thank the Tuffs family as they
hosted this event and invited us
to attend.
Hike for Foam! This month we will be leading a
season welcome back fundraiser.
All athletes are invited to
participate in our gym wide
fundraiser for new foam for our
foam pits. No amount is to small!
Forms can be found online as
well as at the AGC front desk
and from coaches.
Please bring in all funds raised as
you collect them as prizes will be
handed out to athletes
throughout the fundraising event.
We will have a chart in our front
lobby tracking our progress.
Foam pits deplete over time and
need to be replaced. Any athlete
who raises money for our foam
pit will be invited to our
welcome back team hike.
Our goal is to get to $5,000 to
be spent on new foam for our
foam pits. All funds will be spent
on foam so if we reach the
$5,000 mark we can still go over
and purchase more foam!

us a try!
I would like to introduce
Emilyy Cuillerier as our new
cheerleading coordinator.
Emilyy comes from Moncton,
NB where she established her
own Cheer Dynasty All-Stars

prepared for the upcoming
season.
At the end of August we will
be welcoming Jamie Ellacott
to our MAG family. Jamie will
be our new Developmental
Coordinator. He will be
working hard to improve and
provide the best training for
This summer we saw
much improvement
from our MAG
athletes. Our
competitive team
trained hard over the
summer to increase
their skill levels and
work towards their
next competitive level for next
our developmental athletes.
He will also be coaching our
competitive boys.
We are excited to welcome
back our developmental
athletes! Information regarding

regular season! We have had
many girls move up in hours,
as well as lots of athletes
joining the Developmental
Program for the first time.
These hours of hard work are
really paying off! The girls have
being introduced to many new
skills, and have been working
to improve their strength,
flexibility and form!
Things to Remember!
Attendance is key!! The
more you are able to make it
to gymnastics, the faster you
will improve! Frequency and
consistency in training are very
important in helping athletes
create habits and improve
their coordination and skill
execution. When you are
going to be away, please let us
know! You can do this via
email:

Bring a Snack!
While we do not have scheduled break time
throughout the year, it is a
good idea to bring a healthy
snack along (fruits and veggies
please!) just in case you get
hungry! Often times when our
younger athletes complain of a
stomachache, it is often a case
of hunger.

We have had a very
productive summer so far
here at AGC! With groups
training in both the morning
and the afternoon, we have
been able to maximize the
extra space in the gym that we
are not always able to get
access to throughout the

We had a great 2013-2014 season!
All of the athletes achieved their
own personal goals and succeeded
at competitions. A few main
highlights from 2014 Western
Canada Cup:
Alex Wist – Bronze DMT, 4th
Trampoline, Maya McKirdy –
Bronze DMT, Adam Lane – 6th
DMT, 4th Trampoline, Cole Wenzel
– 8th DMT, 9th Trampoline, Gillian
Allegro – 9th Trampoline, Ebony
Campbell – 8th Trampoline, Robbie
Mudd – 7th Trampoline, Melanie
Fryett – 10th Tumbling, Kiana
Mackay – 3rd Tumbling.
And a great job to the rest of the
athletes!
We are looking forward to an
amazing 2014-2015 season. Here is
a small introduction to our
coaches. Coach Becca is the Head
Coach of the T&T program. She is
competitive trampoline coach as
well as the Super Jumpers coach.
Coach Jessie is the competitive
double mini coach as well. Coach
Scott is the competitive tumbling
coach. Coach Melanie and Coach
Rebecca are the pre-competitive
(FAST) coaches. We have a great
coaching team and are all eager to
make this year fantastic!
Rebecca Lennon
Some of Altadore’s Acro girls as
well as some coaches (including
myself) decided to make up a team
and join a bigger team in hopes of
competing in the upcoming World
Gymnaestrada. Our cities group
included Jenna, Morgan, Tatum,
Ana, Emma, Cindy, Mattias,
Carolyn, and Camille.
On June 30th to July 2nd the
Nationals competition was held.
World Gymnaestrada is an event
that takes place every 4 years like
the Olympics; Morgan from our
Acro group was in the 2011 world
Gymnaestrada in Switzerland. The
next Gymnaestrada will be in
Finland in July 2015. The World
Gymnaestrada is the largest
gymnastics international event. At
least 25,000 participants from 50
different countries are expected to
perform in Helszinki Finland.
On the 15th of August we received
official notice – We made it to
Finland!!!! Great work team.
This year will be a year full of more
“blood, sweat and tears” (hopefully
no blood), so that we can perform
our best in Finland for Canada and
Alberta next year.
Mattias Marois
learned how to do front handspring
front layout on trampoline, she is
now working to get it on floor, to
name some successes. All the
athletes who trained this summer
worked hard and improved a lot.
Some of my acro athletes also did
some performances during the
summer such as the stampede
breakfast as well as the pre game show for the Stampeders, I believe
those where successful, and the
athletes performed very well.
I look forward to a great 2014 and
2015 season.
Mattias Marois
As you might all know, Kelsey has
unfortunately left the coaching
position in Acro. I am Mattias and I
will be the new Acro Coordinator.
I am looking forward to working
more with the Acro athletes and
watch them succeed in the sport of
Acro.
Summer training went well for
acro. Athletes have learned some new tumbling skills or improved on
them. Tatum has improved her
back full on rod, Siena has learned
how to do a back half into the foam
pit, Gabriella and Chloe has learned
how to do a back tuck. Jenna

Volunteer Resource Committee The Volunteer Resource Committee
(VRC) is a Committee of the Executive
Director, Volunteer Coordinator (A
Board Member) and Administration
Staff at Altadore Gymnastic Club.
The VRC will be responsible for
formulating and overseeing 8 Volunteer
Committees, each with specific
responsibilities and led by a
Coordinator, who reports back to the
Parent Resource Committee.
The Volunteer Committees will be
formed at the start of the year, and as
the VRC identifies specific needs of the
Club.
All VRC information can be found on
our AGC website at
http://altadoregym.com/volunteer
where you will be able to sign up for
committees.
Responsibilities of VRC Members:

We will be working our
bi-annual casino event on
Sunday, September 21st and
we are in urgent need of
volunteers to help us. This is
an amazing opportunity for
AGC to help raise funds to
support our gymnastics
programs.
Right now we still need 5
volunteers to work the count
room. We also need more
volunteers to fill the back up
positions.
I am proud to introduce Anna Robson as our new AGC Business Manager. Anna has been our Administrative Assistant for the past year. She has over 14 years management experience with a Business Management University Degree. Anna has been a wonderful addition to the AGC family and we are excited to work with her in this new role. and June, and the girls will receive
report cards to demonstrate their
progress.
What to Expect with the Scores?
Parents should look for steady
improvement in their child’s PA testing
score from one testing to the next.
The tests will be held in Sept, Dec,
March and June. Developmental
Groups 2 (orange and blue) and 3
(yellow) should strive to pass the
Copper Level by the end of the season
(by achieving a score of 70 or higher),
while Developmental 1 (red) will work
towards this score at the Bronze Level.
**Remember: Steady
improvement is most important!
Provincial Physical Ability Testing
Throughout the season, our Provincial
Athletes with participate in 4 PA testing
events. The first one was already
conducted this summer. The others are
set for November, March, and June.
Physical Ability (PA) Testing
Here at AGC, our WAG
Developmental groups follow the LEAP
(Let’s Evaluate Athlete’s Progress)
Physical Ability Test created by Michel
Arsenault of Champions Gymnastics
Club. This standardized test is used
across the province to evaluate the
strength and flexibility of athletes aged
6-10. This test compares results to age
group norms, to determine a score out
of 100 for each athlete. The program
consists of 4 levels: Copper, Bronze,
Silver and Gold. Once a score of 70 or
higher is achieved, the gymnast moves
to test at the next level.
Technical Test Event (TTE)
TTEs focus on the athlete’s Skill
Development. Each Developmental
Level has a set list of Target Skills that
they work towards achieving and
improving throughout the year. At
each TTE, the girls are tested on these
skills, and receive a score out of 5. We
will hold TTEs in late November, March
Physical Ability (PA) Testing
Here at AGC, our WAG Provincial
groups will be tested on 19 different
criteria that test their strength,
flexibility and body alignment. Each
criteria is based out of 10 points for a
total of 190 points. Based on their
score, each athlete will be placed into a
zone. 1-64pts is Red, 65-139 pts is
yellow, 140-180pts is green, and 181-
190 is Platinum. The test allows for a
great deal of improvement if the girls
work hard to advance their strength,
flexibility and body alignment. The
scores will be placed on a bulletin
board in the gym for the girls to see
and continue to improve their progress
between testing.
