Our world just never seems to be free from war; yet the prophet Isaiah says that one day, "they
will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks."
Until then, man chooses to defend freedom, truth and liberty of life the best way they know how. These very high ideals of freedom, liberty and truth have cost many young men and women
around the world the very highest price – their lives!
As we commemorate and remember fallen service men and women this month, we pause to remember their sacrifice for you and for me.
"Let us not forget, Oh Lord The multitudes who gave,
The very best that they could give Our freedom to preserve and save.
Some were wounded; some were killed
Yet never, never in vain. For all their selfless sacrifice
Became our unspeakable gain."
We will never forget.

The month of November is here with its colder weather and lots of rain. But if you look outside you get to see a vast array of beautiful
colours from trees that come with the fall. How can one not appreciate that!
We have a busy month coming up in November with a few bus trips and in house programs, so please sign up for these events and come
out and enjoy some socialization with your fellow residents. I would like to thank all of the Resident Volunteers who help around Harmony Court, from the library, helping to set up decorations and
may more things. Thank you for all that you do, You are very much appreciated!
The Christmas to Remember tree will be going up on November 15th in the Front Lobby. This is a tree that gives back to the community that
we live in and the community outside our walls. The tree will hold tags that you can take off (please let Reception know, as they need to know which ones are gone) and you can buy whatever is on that tag, and anything else you may want to add. Our community has seniors who may need just a little extra help at Christmas time, and we want
to give them as much as we can. So please grab a tag off of the tree and help us give back to those a little less fortunate than us. There are 3 ways that you can help this cause; register a senior in need, secret
Santa (tags off tree) or volunteer to wrap and deliver.
As well we will have a memory tree that will be going up in the Fireside Lounge; you can put your loved ones memorial ornament on
the tree for a $2 donation that goes to our Christmas hampers.
We will also have the yearly food donation bin out after Remembrance Day. This will be by the Reception desk and we are looking for non-perishable items (canned goods, toilet paper, and
toiletries) that will also go to seniors in need and the seniors society.
To honor our vets on Remembrance Day there will be a Tea on Thursday November 10th. Please join us for this event.
“Remember our fallen heroes they are the reason we are free!”
Have a great November! Karen Scott Recreation Coordinator

These personalities are bold and are
capable of executing massive enterprises
with cool control and confidence. They can
surmount seemingly all obstacles when
they put their mind to the task, and they
have unshakable focus when the situation
calls for it. Regardless of their bold nature,
they are often secretive, but they are
always observing behind their withdrawn
manner.

NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY NOVEMBER 2016
Harmony Court Library is located on the second floor. The collection is not catalogued so please enjoy a browsing experience. Staff and residents are welcome to sign-out, return and donate books. A group of vibrant volunteers keep the library humming.
Thank-you Muriel for help with Pop-Up Library event held Thursday, October 6, 2016. The Pop-Up was held in the Fireside Lounge and showcased 50 of the newer titles in our collection. Library Circulation: Thank-you to Dana, Ton, Catharina, Rosemary, Connor, Enddy, Teena and Carol for help to change-out the books on Sunday, October 23, 2016, with approximately 500 titles moved off the shelves and 500 titles moved onto the shelves. The Pack-Load & Shelve event was an example of brilliant teamwork. Innovations? The magazine shelf awaits donations. The 'outdated technology' is once again on the shelves and the cassette tapes are located above poetry. Since April of 2016 one history title has circulated. Consideration is being given to dismantling the history section? If you have an opinion, please let us know. There is discussion to integrate large print books into the general collection. A few of the large print titles will be placed in romance and mystery sections as a trial. Please let us know if you want Large Print to remain a separate section. Donations? Please leave somewhere obvious (card table, window ledge, my shower). Thank-you Library Helpers for happy plant care (Carol), shelving books (Teena, Lorna), stamping new/old titles and checking colour code tags (Lorna), creating beautiful bulletin boards (Enddy, Rosemary), facilitating book club, open reading, and poetry sessions (Karen) and all fabulous donors. Love of Words: The library is a cozy space for spoken words.[The ppl skreem 4 poetree!] Poetry or your favourite words can be shared November 7th, 21st, and 28th 2016 at 3:30 P.M. Book Club meets in the library for November 25th at 2:00pm.

IN FLANDERS FIELDS
By Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead: Short days ago, We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!
Take up our quarrel with the foe To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields
Composed at the battlefront on May 3, 1915 during the second battle of Ypres, Belgium
Answers will be posted up in the front lobby on Nov 15th
