Foundation Board Meeting

Summary – Tuesday, November 15, 2016 Sequoia Bldg., Room 1

12:30 p.m.

Members Present: Bob Ainley, Stephanie Amaral, Marla Borges, Tom Giampietro, Mariann Hedstrom, Mary Johnston, Josh McDonnell & Paula Murray Members Absent: Steven Beargeon, Stan Carrizosa, Tim Dodson, Scott Iverson, Jeff Nelson Ken Nunes, & BJ Perch JoeAnna Todd & Stephen Tootle Others Present: Tim Foster & Sylvia Stiff

1. Call to Order: Meeting called to order by the Board President, Josh McDonnell at 12:40

p.m.

2. Action Items: The Board President requested approval of the July and September 2016 meeting minutes. Ms. Murray called attention to the word grant and Paula that were misspelled in the last paragraph in item #6 of the July minutes. Mr. Giampietro motioned to approve July minutes with the requested change from Ms. Murray and also motioned to approve the September minutes as presented. A second from Ms. Amaral. Motion carried unanimously.

3. Board Retreat and Survey Debrief: Mr. McDonnell reflected on the September 20th retreat. The board commented on how they all enjoyed the presentations from the various programs that received Foundation Project Funding. Mr. Foster asked the board if they would like the presentations to continue and all were in agreement that they are beneficial. It was agreed that, in the future, we would have one presentation at our regularly scheduled meetings. Mr. Foster reviewed the results of the Board Strategic Survey. After some discussion amongst the board members, it was recommended that the board’s focus for the coming year should be to (1) initiate a President’s Scholars campaign to seek $2,500 donations to sponsor individual scholars for future years and (2) assist with finding additional COS Alumni following the Alumni Quest. Ms. Hedstrom motioned to approve President’s Scholars and Alumni campaigns to focus on with a second from Ms. Johnston. Motioned carried unanimously.

4. Board of Trustee & President’s Report: No Report

5. Foundation Report: Mr. Foster reported on the Employee Giving Campaign, Alumni Quest and upcoming theater presentation of White Christmas with a VIP reception.

• Power of the Purseo The event netted $25,500; just short of our $25,000 goal, but better than

last year at $23,880o The committee has voted to double the number of scholarships this next

round. So ten single parents reentering college will receive a $2,000scholarship.

o Two recipients spoke at the event and they inspired many in the room.• Giant Alumni Quest

o COS Foundation effort to reconnect with hundreds of COS Alumnio We have broken the 225 Alumni mark, fewer than expectedo Five teams are seeking out alumni and encouraging them to complete an

Alumni Questionnaireo The Giant Alumni Quest officially ended December 9th

• Giving Tuesday November 29ho A few departments participatedo $6,665.02 was raised for our efforts.o Giant Food Pantry was the big winner, raising $4,588.31o The Foundation matched up to $1,000 to the Giant Pantry as the contest

award for top donations.• COS Theatre White Christmas VIP

o Raised an extra $1,250 over the ticket sales for the White ChristmasProduction.

• Avenue to Education – Capital Campaigno Launched a 14-month, $30,000 capital campaign to benefit the Student

Pavilion Project at the Hanford Educational Centero Proceeds will help fund a student bulletin system along with stage lighting

and a sound system for the amphitheater.o The Foundation has already committed to match community contributions,

if necessary, up to $15,000.o So far we have one $5,000 commitment from Educational Employees

Credit Union and a few gifts totaling a couple of thousand dollars as aresult of our participation in the Hanford Christmas Tree Auction last week.
