Put 2 – 3 tablespoons of mixture on a flour tortilla shell. Roll 8 or 10 (whatever is in your package) and place in a baking pan. Workshop - Saukville WI - UWM-Waukesha professors

Barbara Reinhart retired from the Art Department and

Suzanne Joneson in the Biology Department currently

teaching Botany and Microbiology courses combine their

talents to lead participants in this new course. Unlike a

biological illustration course that focuses on the product of

translating views into realistic images, this course instead

emphasizes how careful observation, visual recording via

drawing, and scientific understanding can illuminate each

other. With a basic introduction to drawing and science, these

observations will be recorded in a field notebook. Class time

will be divided between expeditions exploring the natural

habitats of the field station, and sessions of focused

observations, drawing, and descriptions. Students will leave

this course with basic skill sets in drawing and observation of

the natural world. Students need no prior experience in

drawing and all levels of expertise are encouraged to enroll.

Greeting everyone ! I'm bringing back an old one on asparagus harvesting. Not sure who the author was on this article previously but is a good reminder.

Q: What are the "rules" on harvesting asparagus?

A: Asparagus can be harvested the third year after planting crowns, but for no more than 1 month the first year. After the third year, the spears may be harvested from their first appearance in the spring through early June. Harvest asparagus spears before tips start to fern out by either cutting or snapping. To cut a spear, run a knife (I prefer a pruning shear) into the soil at the base of the spear. Be careful not to damage tips that have not yet emerged. To snap a spear, grasp it near the base and bend it toward the ground. Remove all emerging spears during harvest since tall-growing spears suppress further spear growth. Experience will tell you when to stop harvesting, but common recommendations include stopping when the diameter of ¾ of the spears become small (less than 3/8 inch) or when the spears have been reduced to pencil-size.

Lastly, I would suggest checking on this article in from the Plant Disease Diagnostic Clinic as it does a nice job of depicting some of the current issues that are going on throughout the state. here is the link:https://pddc.wisc.edu/2019/06/07/june-june-is-bustin-out-all-over-with-plant-health-problems/

Karner Blue Butterfly Surveys

Brad from Necedah Nat'l Wildlife Refuge

sent out an e-mail announcing training for

Karner Blue Butterfly surveys if anyone is

interested. Training on how to count

butterflies will take place on June 20th

from 9-noon at the refuge visitor center.

The second flight of Karners will be in will

will be in July.

Lupine seeds

With that e-mail, he noted the Lupine is in

bloom and harvesting of seeds would be

done in June for a 1 week period. Pods

will be collected when they are ready to

pop, and some will be distributed in areas

that don't presently have Lupine (Brad

will have a map). Other pods will be

gathered and put in a drying location for

future distribution. This does not require

training and can be done anytime during

the specified week. The refuge will share

some of these pods for those that are

interested.

I'll send an e-mail when the time nears.

times nears, thanks!

Master Gardener Social Media Guidelines

Social media, like it or not, is here to stay. MGVs have stepped up and created numerous pages and groups on Facebook to communicate about what’s going on locally and sharing horticultural information. I really appreciate these efforts and realize there have been no guidelines or policies to guide page administrators with what they should and should not do. So, it is with that point of view that I’m very gently putting it out there…. Be careful what you are posting online. I strongly suggest you use the following pages for your source material:

https://www.facebook.com/wimastergardener/ https://www.facebook.com/WisconsinGarden/ https://www.facebook.com/extensionmastergardener/

But, when it comes to the horticultural stuff on a MG page ensure it is

from an appropriate source.
