Fluxus films - Characteristics
• Are considered critiques of main-stream film
• Depict very minimal action
• Highly poetic, meditative and often playful
• “Lifelike art” – bridging the gap between art and life
- Were created in opposition to mainstream culture
- Were often characterized by:- the absence of linear narrative- the use of various abstracting techniques:
out-of-focus, scratching on film, rapid editing, the absence of sound

Vito Acconci (b. 1940)
- A New York-based visual artist
- Began his career in late 60s as a poet & writer
- Transformed himself into a performance and video artist by using his own body as a subject for photography, video, etc.

- Born in Boston

- In the 70s made a series of controversial performa-nces in which the idea of personal danger as artistic expression was central
- Provocative, radical work
