Magazine Advertisement Outline• Get in pairs and look through magazines for an good

advertisement. Cut it out.• Discuss the visual rhetoric.• On construction paper, make an outline as if you were

going to write a paper discussing the rhetoric of the ad as either effective or ineffective. Your outline must start with a fully developed thesis statement.

• Consider the following when assessing effective or ineffective rhetoric within outlines:– Audience– appeals to Aristotle's artistic proofs– imagery/sensory details– use of hyperbole (ineffective= unfounded exaggeration;

effective= intentionally satirical)– use of satire, i.e. irony, understatement, hyperbole, sarcasm– diction and tone
