Agincourt Junior Public School is an architectural landmarklocated on Lockie Avenue near Midland and Sheppard Avenues.When the school first opened in 1914, it consisted of fourclassrooms from Grades 1 to 12. With two additions over theyears, we now have eight classrooms with grades K-6, alibrary/resource centre and two portables. This historic buildinghas a unique authenticity and charm ideal for meeting the needsof our dynamic community, which includes approximately230 students representing many different language groups andcultures.
Eco SchoolAgincourt Junior Public School hasproudly been certified as a GoldEcoSchool for the last three years.This amazing accomplishment wasachieved through the dedication ofour staff and students. We've plantednew trees on school property,prioritized recycling, reduced photocopying, conducted parkclean-ups and focused on energy conservation. And theestablishment of an EcoSquad, comprised of teachers andstudents from grades 3 to 6, ensures that we maintain a high levelof commitment to the environment.

LiteracyFormal reading and writing instruction begins in Kindergarten.Levelled books and Developmental Reading Assessments are animportant part of our literacy program. Special Education andEnglish as a Second Language are in place to serve children withspecial needs. All students are expected to reflect on their areas ofgrowth and set goals for improvement.
NumeracyMath manipulative's, the Nelson math program and the use ofcomputer software enhance our hands on approach tomathematical investigation and problem solving. Our focus is on abalanced delivery of the five strands (Number Sense andNumeration, Measurement, Geometry and Spatial Sense, Patteringand Algebra, Data Management and Probability) in the OntarioCurriculum.
Character EducationThe promotion of harmonious relationships among differentlinguistic and cultural groups is a priority. Collaborative learning,problem solving and conflict resolution are part of the daily program.Through monthly Character Education assemblies students areexposed to, reminded of and celebrated for exhibiting positivecharacter traits.
The ArtsAgincourt Jr. believes strongly in the power of education through thearts. All students in grade 3, 4, 5 and 6 take recorder lessons duringschool time. We also offer opportunities for students to join and singin the primary or junior choirs. All children in grades 5 and 6 can jointhe band or string groups. We also continue to have a JuniorRecorder club.

Agincourt Jr. is a small school with a family atmosphere.Parents, staff and students work closely to set highexpectations for academic achievement and courteousbehaviour. We are an inclusive community school with awide range of co-curricular programs; Music, Drama, Dance,French Club, Eco-Squad, Folk Dance and ComputerStudies. We encourage students to participate in theseprograms during and after school to discover uniqueexperiences.

We are very pleased with the performance of our students inLiteracy and Mathematics reviews over the past six years.Our EQAO scores are significantly above provincial andboard averages. The factors for this success, we believe,stem from effective teaching practices, ongoing professionaldevelopment, a focus on early literacy and mathematics,Board and Ministy intiatives, the contribution of volunteersand strong support from families.
Parent and Community Engagement
Agincourt Jr. is proud to have forged strong ties with the followingCommunity Partners: Agincourt Community Services Association,Canada Trust Friends of the Environment, Agincourt Public Library,The International Coastal Clean Up, Legion Poppy Sales, Terry FoxFoundation and the Toronto Police Services.We have a vibrant and active School Council who fundraise forschool initiatives. We also have several regular parent volunteerswho assist in the classrooms, in the library, for special events and onexcursions.We appreciate our partnerships with Niagara University TeacherCandidates, Ryerson Nursing and ECE Students and YorkUniversity Psychology Department.
