DOVE SELF-ESTEEM WORKSHOP

What the session will cover:The Dove Self-Esteem Project (DSEP) provides FREE training for trainee teachers tohelp them encourage healthy body confidence and positive self-esteem in theyoung people they teach. DSEP lesson plans are PSHE Association quality assured.

Problems with body confidence affect up to 70% of adolescents. The training weprovide will help trainee and new teachers:• Understand how low self-esteem can impact on young people’s wellbeing• Be prepared with a range of FREE lessons and activities that encourage body

LEADING A MENTALLY HEALTHY SCHOOL

What the session will cover:Leading a Mentally Healthy School training modules have been funded by HealthEducation England (HEE) and created by the School Development Support Agency(SDSA) in partnership with an expert group of educational psychologists, educationconsultants and mental health organisations.

The aim is to enable and empower senior leaders to put mental health at the heart ofstrategic school improvement and to equip senior leaders with practical andsustainable approaches that can be implemented on return to school

We have attended the Train the Trainer training and are now in a position to deliverthis to all senior leaders in our alliance and local area. This course is suitable forleaders from primary and secondary schools.

Target Audience:This course is aimed specifically at headteachers and senior leaders and focuses onreflection of current provision and strategic planning to help develop a mentallyhealthy school. The course is split over two days, with follow up tasks from day 1 tobe completed.

SLE OVERVIEW

We have 6 SLEs that are in the alliance, all of which are currently ‘dormant’. We areproposing that in order for them to experience going out into schools all SLE workthat is between alliance schools (up to 2 days) is free of charge. Daniel JenkinsDaniel has been teaching for 25 years and in that time and has spent a great deal of itmentoring others. He ran the English department at St Thomas More for 10 yearsand now works in the Teaching and Learning department as the Teaching andLearning leader where his role is to oversee the training of staff, whether it be wholeschool, small group or at an individual level. Every student has a right to learn, a rightto be taught by competent professional teachers who know their subject, care aboutthe progress of the pupils and know how to make this happen in the classroom andhe thoroughly enjoys the opportunity to develop the craft of teaching with practicaland proven methods based upon research and practice within the classroom. Danielspecialises in:• Leadership of CPD• Leadership of Curriculum

Nick JobbinsNick is Assistant Headteacher, Director of Inclusion and Safeguarding Lead. He hasbeen awarded a National Award for SEN Co-ordination and has a MEd inPerspectives on Special Needs and Inclusion. He has delivered a wide range of CPDon SEND, Inclusion and Safeguarding and is well versed in the latest research inworking with children with SEND. He specialises in:• Working with learners with SEND• Differentiation• Positive Behaviour Management• Safeguarding• Mental Health and Wellbeing

Andy LewisAndy is Assistant Headteacher, Director of RE who has previously held bothcurriculum and pastoral roles. He has led the change of Key Stage 3 curriculum intwo schools from ICONS to The Way, The Truth and The Life including theimplementation of resources, assessments and levelling. He has also lead thechange and implementation of the new Edexcel GCSE and A Level in his currentpost. As part of this, he has delivered GCSE CPD in a number of schools and leadworking parties for both GCSE and A Level. Metacognition and its implications forplanning and assessment are an interest of Andy’s and he has delivered sessions forstaff, students and parents on effective revision. improve Religious Education with Culham St Gabriel’s, Teach First and the CatholicEducation Service. He has worked with local trainee RE teachers on the legalframework of RE.

Andy led the team who organised The London RE Hub in 2015 and 2016, subjectknowledge focussed conferences for over 100 RE teachers. He has also beeninvolved in organising TeachMeet London events, some of the largest free CPDconferences held in the U.K. Andy has spoken at a number of events includingWestminster Briefings on behaviour management, the Institute of Ideas ‘Battle ofIdeas’ on the value of RE in society and has been invited to present at various otherTeachMeets and regional RE training days.

He has published a textbook for the 2016 GCSE Edexcel Religious Studiesspecification and was involved in a series of Key Stage 3 RE textbooks published in2017. He is currently writing a GCSE revision guide and editing a new podcast seriesfor GCSE students. Andy was also nominated for TES Teacher Blogger of the Year in2016 and frequently tweets and blogs about RE and wider education. Susan PrichardSusan is an outstanding MFL teacher and as Head of MFL was instrumental inbuilding up an extremely successful MFL department where all students continue tostudy a language at GCSE level. Susan is an experienced and passionate teacherwith extensive experience and the ability to communicate her ideas effectively andenthusiastically. Susan is a Leading Practitioner, SLE and a member of SLT involvedin teaching and learning across the school. She works with members of staff in allcurriculum areas who have been teaching a number of years but need support toraise achievement and motivation in the classroom. Susan is a skilled coach and hassuccessfully mentored teachers and curriculum leaders who have previously proveddifficult to reach. Susan also coordinates the T&L forum which has made animportant contribution towards the sharing of good practice across the school. Sheregularly delivers CPD both inside and outside of school on issues such as markingand feedback, KS5 teaching, lesson planning, AFL, creativity, memorisation, raisingmotivation, challenge, literacy and developing learner skills.

As an AST Susan worked in many primary and secondary schools across Newhamsupporting the implementation of new MFL initiatives and mentoring both curriculumleaders and subject teachers. She ran the MFL Secondary Network Meetings formany years and developed an extremely popular upskilling course for primaryteachers new to MFL. Susan has considerable experience in putting in place andthen implementing action plans to ensure the school’s vision is met and students areable to achieve their full potential.

Lucie RaconLucie is an Outstanding Science teacher who remains passionate about being in theclassroom. She is an experienced Curriculum Leader of Science and has effectivelyturned round the Science Department of an East London Comprehensive with highlevels of EAL, PP and ethnic minorities to get 26% above National average at KS4 andstrong Ebacc figures. Lucie is a Leading Practitioner, an SLE, has NPQSL and is amember of SLT involved in teaching and learning. Her work supporting a wide rangeof teachers across secondary schools and with primary science has improvedoutcomes for students and the schools involved. She has experience working withSecondary and Primary ITT, Assessment only, NQT and experienced teachers withmany responsibilities. Lucie’s current whole School priorities for Teaching andLearning are engagement, challenge and feedback to raise attainment. Lucie isadept at analysing data, identifying need and putting a strategic and operationalaction plan in place to meet the School’s vision. Katie SmithKatie is an Assistant Headteacher, currently Director of Teaching School. She haspreviously held the posts of Assistant Headteacher, KS5 Teaching and Learning andDirector of Social Sciences. She holds an MA in Educational Leadership and hasbeen teaching in Inner London schools for over 14 years. She has set up middleleadership qualifications and has been UCAS lead for many years. She has aparticular interest in teaching and learning and has delivered countless CPD oncontemporary research in teaching and learning. She specialises in:• ITT and its changing nature• Social mobility• Leadership in education• Training the next generation of leaders• UCAS and post 16 progression
