The Caribbean Centre for Competitiveness (CCfC) invites submissions of abstracts for
papers and presentations for its 2nd Caribbean Competitiveness Forum, Beyond the
Solutions: Competitiveness through Global Value Chains, Clustering and Innovation, tobe held at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Jamaica from November 7
8, 2013. This Forum will bring together participants from the public and private sectors,
academia and non-governmental institutions. It will be a practical approach showcasing
real regional success stories from which lessons and recommendations can emerge to
support the growth of the wider sectors and by extension the countries of the Region.
Building on the foundation of the 1st Forum, the 2nd Caribbean Competitiveness Forum will
focus on sharing case studies on regional clusters and value chains in four (4) sectors
identified as important to most Caribbean countries: Services; Agro-processing;
Manufacturing; and Emerging (i.e. ICTs, renewable energy and new tourism). Abstracts
(no more than 350 words) must be submitted by September 13, 2013.

Regional IPPC
Workshop
Hyatt Regency
Hotel, Port of
Spain, Trinidadand Tobago
This regional workshop supported by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC)
Secretariat will focus on the review of the draft International Standards for Phytosanitary
Measures with the objectives of supporting coordination amongst CARICOM member
states on sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) issues of importance to individual states and
supporting greater regional participation in the standard-setting processes that impact on
national and regional practices. A representative of the IPPC Secretariat will be present to
help facilitate the workshop. Responding effectively to SPS and other food safety issuesaffecting trade is of great importance to the Caribbean region as it seeks to develop
markets with traditional export partners such as the U.S.A. and the E.U., and also as it
promotes greater intra-regional trade.
