Agricultural EducationJoseph Ankley

Thank you for attending todays presentation. / My name is Joseph Ankley and I am glad that the department asked me to come talk to the new agricultural education recruits. Many of you have some previous knowledge of ag ed but I hope to give you some new and interesting information. 1What is Agricultural Education? The instruction about animal science, plant science and other topicsPresent in over 7,400 school districts in all 50 states including Puerto Rico and the Virgin IslandsAgricultural Education is uniqueFFA is an important part to ag. ed.FFA serves as a leadership and pre-professional organization for future employees of the agricultural industry

To begin, I would like to take a few moments to talk about what agricultural education really is. / ag-ed is a type of instruction that focuses on agriculturally related subjects such as animals science, plant science and biotechnology. / Currently there are over seventy-four hundred school districts in the United States. / Agricultural Education is unique because it employs a lot of hands-on learning. / An important component of Agricultural Education is F-F-A. F-F-A is the nations largest youth leadership organization that works with ag ed programs to train students. / F-F-A works hand-in-hand with ag ed programs to train the future leaders and employees of the agricultural industry.2What does Agriculture Education Look Like?

What does Agricultural Education look like in the classroom? / This Ven Diagram shows three separate but important parts overlapping in the middle to create a successful ag ed program. / The circle labeled Instruction is the actual teacher-based learning and instruction that the student receives directly in the classroom. / The second circle is F-F-A. This serves as a leadership part to ag ed./ In F-F-A students are able to receive leadership training through conferences and conventions, compete in agricultural ad leadership contests, and apply for awards / The last part of the circle is Supervised Agricultural Experience, or S-A-E. / This is the part of ag ed that the student does at home or in school. An S-A-E is the self-exploration of the student in an agriculturally related topic through owning their own animals and plants to working in an ag realted job, to volunteering for ag related organizations. / All three components are imperative to a successful Agricultural Education program. 3

These pictures show all three components of Agricultural Education: students participating in classroom instruction, students participating in F-F-A and students working in their S-A-E programs. 4A Michigan Tradition
