AgriSETA Annual Report 2010 - 2011 Marketing and Communications DEPARTMENTAL REPORTING Annual General Meeting and Conference At the Annual General Meeting held on the 14 September 2010, the Governing Board of 2009 was re-elected to serve for the 2010 term. Celebrating the 10 years of the SETA’s existence, the 2010 Conference focused on informing stakeholders of the “Fruits of the 10 years” of the AgriSETA. Guest speak- ers ranged from Ms Adrianne Bird of the Department of Higher Education and Training who informed delegates what has been achieved in the NSDSII and what the vision was for the NSDSIII. Professor Joachim Ewert who retired from the University of Stellenbosch, gave a case study of the NQF learnerships in the Primary Agriculture sector. Ms Lumé Kleynhans of Standard Bank briefed the stake- holders on Agri Economics. AgriSETA Excellence Awards The Gala Dinner for 2010 took the form of an Excellence Awards where cash prizes were awarded to stakeholders who excelled in training in the agricultural sector. The Organising Committee (OC) was established by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to plan, organise and im- plement an Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Annual Conferences for the SETA wherein learners, service providers and employers were expected to forward inputs on the activities of the SETA. In these meetings, best performing entities were expected to be honoured through provision of prizes. AgriSETA starting from 2010 initiated the prize giving ceremony. Standard Bank was approached to sponsor the event and a proposal was submitted to the bank. Stan- dard Bank sponsored the event for 2010 and has pledged to sponsor the awards function for the forthcoming five years. Standard Bank sponsored the Excellence Awards and cash prizes were awarded at the gala function for the following categories and winners. Annual General Meeting and Conference

Exhibitions

Various exhibitions were attended informing learners of the

scarce and critical skills. Invitations were also extended

from high schools and various government departments

and commodity organisations.

Supporting the Madiba Magic, the AgriSETA attended the

Nelson Mandela Career Day held on 17 – 18 July 2010 in

Giyani.

Advertising

Various magazines were advertised in as well as various

interviews given by the CEO, Mr Jerry Madiba.

Magazines advertised in were CEO Magazine, Succeed,

Learnership Quarterly, AgriSA and Vuna Magazine. Articles

ranged from informing of mentoring and land reform.

AgriSETA also appeared on television programmes such

as Living Land and Agri TV.

Website Information

Stakeholders were encouraged to visit the AgriSETA web-

site more often to stay updated of the latest developments

and relevant information applicable to the stakeholders.

As indicated, the graph below shows that stakeholders are

well up to date with SETA information.

During the month of June the software was replaced and

the report could not be retrieved.

Special Events

AgriSETA is always there to ensure the well being of their

personnel and thus arranged a wellness day. Personnel

attended the day where an informative presentation was

given by Dr Kylie Montgomery on nutritional information.

Ms Lara Marais of Careways gave a talk on Healthy Living

and the Vision Van Optometrist did eye screenings tests.

Strategic Meeting

The AgriSETA attended a two-day strategic session in

November 2010 in preparation for the much awaited

NSDSIII. Departments gave their inputs for the year ahead

and had discussion points regarding improving on service

delivery.

As a team building exercise, staff attended a “Laughter

Workshop”. Laughter reduces stress and boosts trust,

motivation and cognitive abilities. This resulted in higher

energy levels and greater productivity.
