CHANGING THE STORY College Mentors for Kids

Community Report

Page 2: AHC NGNGEHT I STORYCollege Mentors for Kids Community Report · their futures held in store. 1,900 college students volunteered as mentors and chapter leaders and grew as role models

Looking back at this year, it is amazing to see the kids and college student volunteers who have been changed through mentoring.

In 2013–2014, 1,685 kids were matched with a college student mentor, leading to transformed ideas of what their futures held in store. 1,900 college students volunteered as mentors and chapter leaders and grew as role models and leaders. In 2014–2015, we’re doing even more. After successfully expanding out of the Midwest with our Cornell University chapter in Ithaca, NY in 2013–2014, we are continuing to grow with new chapters in New York City, New York; Charlottesville, Virginia; and Columbia, Missouri. College Mentors for Kids is continually moving toward our goal of impacting the lives of 5,000 kids and 5,000 college students across the country by 2020. As we continue changing stories, we hope that you will join us in advocating for mentoring and supporting the transformation that occurs when a child has a mentor.

Sincerely,Shelley Hunter

We value the exponential impact of the collective. Thanks to every person listed here, a child gets to experience a college campus. These donations were received between July 1, 2013–June 30, 2014.

We value awesomeness in every effort and interaction. “[College Mentors for Kids] has been life-changing for our students and families.…One of our parents cried and said, ‘Now I believe [college] is a real possibility for my children.’ The program has built confidence in my students and lifted the mystique about college. Now they know if they work hard, they can make it in school.”
