AIESEC Ife welcomes you to the city of Ile ife, the hub of African culture and History. Going through this booklet is just another step towards discovering something new about yourself and the world at large. Our Local committee is geared towards ensuring you make the most out of this exchange experience. We are doing this by ensuring you live in a comfortable, peaceful environment so you can put in your best in creating a positive impact on the society and at the same time developing various personal skills.

Ile ife is a peaceful and calm town filled with friendly locals. The weather is friendly, with beautiful vegetations and landscapes; The city is rich in both history and culture. The LC will ensure you explore all of this as part of the awesome experience you will have. Be open-minded, discover Africa, discover yourself, enjoy the people, the scenery, the weather, the ancient town and, most importantly, be truly global!! Appreciate what you see!!!

ABOUT PROJECT HEAL Project Heal is one of AIESEC IFE’s projects for the year 2015. Its focus is on health, education and leadership with major focus on Autism, HIV&AIDS and Health leadership. Project HEAL is targeted at tackling health issues using social approach e.g art, & societal behaviours. The aim of Project HEAL is to channel all these factors positively towards health to bring about positive changes in communal health and to instigate and instil leadership attitudes in areas of health in young people. The project activities involve empowering and contributing to the organizational development of health NGOs through Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Project management, An Art programme for autistic children, sensitization, education, testing and counselling programme for HIV/AIDS.

To raise awareness, support and impact for Autism, HIV/AIDS and Health leadership To change attitudes towards health problems and people suffering from these health problems To give health leadership experience to individuals for sustainability and long lasting impact

ABOUT PROJECT DISCOVER This project is based on leadership and career development. The aim of the project is directed towards encouraging literacy and helping young people create a career path by identifying and managing their potentials and passion. The project seeks to create more and better leaders in the society by equipping young people, through mentoring and appropriate talent identification and management schemes. Target audience is primary and secondary school students, out of school children in streets, markets and orphanages. At the end of the project, it is expected that the leadership skills of the participants is developed and they have a more global mind-set. The programmes for this project involve formal education on basic subjects e.g maths english, french etc, a career programme about different career choices and a practical leadership programme where the children will be able to gain team experiences while they carry out tasks assigned in the programme and can also develop soft skills needed for their respective prospective careers and interns also teach hard skills they posess(e.g. dance,craft etc) to identify the childrens skills and potentials and a mentoring programme to continue to manage and develop these potentials

ABOUT PROJECT BLACK

Project Black is a project aimed at raising cultural knowledge and sensitivity amongst youths to engineer leadership and achieve peace. We hope to instil cultural understanding and create an awareness of the culture-rich environment around us. The project activities include a global village programme comprising all components of culture{history, food, etiquette, dance}, visit to tourist sites and cultural events with a touch of photography documentary containing various cultures in order to share with target audience of the project which includes youths, locals of the community and the rest of the world(virtually). Also learning foreign languages is one of the activities. At the end of the project, we hope to have more globally minded individuals who are aware of what other cultures are like and have knowledge of a language of their choice which will in turn promote world peace.

LOGISTICS Please apply for a tourist Visa during your visa application You will be sent documents that will aid your visa application If your university, sponsor, college or departments needs any documents to be signed and stamped by us, please inform us early. If you encounter any problems during your visa application, please inform us as soon as possible

You will be picked up at the airport on arrival. Airport pick up fee is $20. For those coming by road, pick up fee depends on the time of arrival and the luggage you are carrying Please ensure you inform us of the day and time you will be leaving your country; also tell us the arrival time for your flight. This will aid us in preparing adequately for your arrival.

BASIC LIVING COSTS FEEDING TRANPORTATION

Transportation within ile ife can be as low as 20 Naira and as high as 200 Naira. The main means of transportation within ile ife are Bus( Which is safe)—Costs between 20 naira and 60 naira Taxi(Mostly in the night)—Costs between 30 naira to 60 naira Okada(Motorcycle)—costs between 30 naira and 200 naira For destinations outside ife, intercity transport services are available. They cost between 200 naira to 3,000 naira.

This ranges from local food, to continental and intercontinental food The most common food you can find around ife are: Rice, beans, plantain, yam, Fufu, eba Dodo Riskie(Bread and fried egg) Varieties of fruits(Orange, apple, pineapple, watermelon etc

A plate of food costs between 200 naira to 500 naira. Sachet water costs 10 naira while bottled water costs 60 naira. These can be bought from shops around. All drinks(Alcoholic and non-alcoholic) can be found in open Shops, supermarkets and restaurants

ESTIMATED BUDGET OF STAY

Feed Total cost per day for food=600 naira Total Estimated cost for six weeks=25,200 naira

Transportation to TN(School/organization) Total cost per day=120 naira Total estimated cost for six weeks=5,040 naira

Transportation to other spots around ife Total Estimated cost for six weeks=1,260 naira Trips(Optional) Total cost for all trips intern might partake in=7,200 naira

You might spend more or less than the estimated budget. The cost depends on your peculiarity. ***Use this for relativity of your currency worth to naira: Bottled water in Nigeria costs 60 naira

ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation will be provided by the LC at a fee. Interns will pay a fee of $50 which covers accommodation. This fee does not cover the damages the intern might cause during his/her stay.

Beds will be provided. So, all you need is a bed spread and cover clothes. There are light outages sometimes. This can last for 6-12 hours or more occasionally The intern house has basic facilities such as kitchen, bathroom, toilet and electric outlets The house closes by 11pm. So ensure you are back to the house before 11pm. For the security of your properties, ensure you lock up your bags before going out. We don’t have house cleaners, so you will have to clean up where you sleep on your own There are house rules that have to be obeyed. Please ensure you obey them Ensure you are available for house activities.

Ile Ife is the spiritual home of the Yoruba people, it is therefore associated with lots of Indigenous religious and cultural practises and edifices. However, Christianity and Islam are still popular.

Ile ife is located within Osun state, South western Nigeria. Geographically, Ife lies on longitude 4o 69’E and latitude 70o50’N. The climate is tropical.

Ile Ife is an ancient town in Africa history and is regarded as the cradle of civilization. It is believed that the creation of the world started from ile ife; Hence, the name ile ife (Land of the source)
