This publication is the external annual report for AIESEC Indonesia in the term 2012-13. We call it the "Story of Youth Leadership" as it signifies our journey and achievements of the generation 2012-13 where young leaders from across Indonesia strived and achieved incredible growth and took AIESEC in Indonesia towards its vision.

Contents The Story of Youth LeadershipToday’s world is like a huge boat consisting of hundreds of different cabins with its own captains, crushing in storming deep ocean. We are living a reality where the world today is so much inter-connected, causing us to face severe multi-complex problems from economic drops, corruption, education, poverty, unemployment and other counting lists. Because of it, we affect and get affected by each other more than ever these days across countries.

Thinking of solutions for all these problems, it poses a never ending question. But if we look deeply and ask ourselves: what would be the root of all these multi-dimensional problems? We, the people, might be the answer. In the end, it’s the people who cause all the problems. Then what if every person in the world starts doing the right thing?

Then it starts to make sense if there is one solution which matters fundamentally and constantly for all these problems: it is leadership, when all people do the right thing. Then we realize that the world needs leadership. Indonesia is calling for leadership.

For us, we believe AIESEC exists to answer the call. AIESEC is a global youth network which provides leadership development platform for young people. We believe AIESEC in Indonesia brings relevance and difference to Indonesia.

The year 2012-2013 has been a remarkable year for us. Despite the tremendous different emerging attractive education and/or organizational opportunities for young people recently, AIESEC in Indonesia continued the legacy to grow in delivering more and better leadership experiences for young people across Indonesia, making it still as one of the finest choices for higher education students and recent graduates when talking about leadership for personal and professional development.

AIESEC in Indonesia has reached a milestone in delivering more than 1500 international

internship opportunities for our exchange programs. These numbers, are delivered by a network of 1250 active members taking leadership roles in our branches across different universities and cities in Indonesia. We rapidly grew our branches from 9 units to 30 in a year, reaching out to more 36 universities and 16 cities in only 1 year.

We believe beyond these numbers, there are thousands of stories of unique leadership journey. A personal leadership journey, about how young people experience a challenging environment, learn how to stand up from failure, reflect in who they are and what they want to be, generate values to be better individual for themselves and others, then achieve growth. We have been consciously driving ourselves to better manage our delivery for each and every experience we provide through customer experience management. Because that is what matters to us the most. It drives us.

This annual report summarizes what AIESEC in Indonesia has done for the entire term 2012-2013. This report is not just an ordinary report of successes and achievements, this report symbolizes a proof that there are still a bunch of young people in this country who are willing to dedicate themselves in the betterment of the country, believing so much in their dreams and taking a stand for what they think is right -in this case- through leadership.

We would like to appreciate all of our partners, supervisory group, board of advisors, alumni, and other stakeholders who have contributed to us directly or indirectly last year. Thank you for your contribution. The impact we have created in the year 2012-2013, would not happen if it wasn’t for your sincere support to us. Our highest gratitude for you in giving us trust to engage and develop more young people in Indonesia.

The future still lies ahead, and the end destination is still far away to reach. We have our dreams for our country, and we will keep it strong in our hearts. We believe in the power of young people with the right leadership, and we will strive for it passionately. As we acknowledge we can’t succeed this humble mission alone, we will never stop collaborating with others, and will always expand our engagement.

We will keep ourselves improved, bigger, better and stronger than ever before. We promise we will never stop creating leaders who are ready to positively change Indonesia, and the world.

AIESEC in Indonesia was established since 1984. For over 29 years we have existed and been established in 10 cities. Our mission is to build Indonesian young people to be global leaders through the delivery of more than 1000 exhange programs every year, more than 20 conferences nationally and locally and more than 2000 members developed throughout the year.

AIESEC runs its core operations by majorly focusing on delivering more and better international internship experiences -known as exchange programs- for young people. It involves sending young people abroad (Outgoing Exchange) and receiving young people from foreign countries (Incoming Exchange) for the purpose of leadership development. Realization

Global Community Development Program (GCDP)A Global Community Development Programme provides opportunities for young people to create direct positive impact through an international volunteer experience abroad. It enables young people abroad to volunteer in projects or NGO/institutions related to community development issues in Indonesia, such as HIV/AIDS, children’s education/development, environment, poverty, entrepreneurship, and so on. Some of the programs delivered were co-created with companie’s CSR programs, designed and delivered together with AIESEC as facilitator.

AIESEC gave me more chances to expand my potential skills in an international field. In Poland, i joined “Enter Your Future” program by LC Rzeszow. This program helped me to develop my English teaching sklls and deal with foreign studnts. It was such an honor for me being able to share about my country to the world and let many people know more about Indonesian Culture, especially when i worked with my Egyptian and Georgian friends as a team.

By visiting some towns around Rzeszow in 6 weks, I learned about how unique the Polish culture are. I enjoyed the food and learned Polish. Those were awesome moments which are incomprable with anywhing. One thing that is precious, you meet new friends and get family from different sides of the world. It was absolutely fantastic. AIESEC also gave me the opportunity to expand my network links with other AIESECers from different programs and countries.

My name is Anna and I come from Poland. I have spent 6 wonderful weeks in Surabaya, Indonesia, as an Exchange Participant of AIESEC Global Community Development Program. I was working as a teacher for Cafe Inggris, a private English course located in City of Tomorrow shopping mall, Surabaya. The age scope of my students was between 6 and 35 years old, so I had to be very flexible and always prepared. It increased my possibility to adapt to different situations and to improvise, which is so important on the modern job market.

Another aspect of my Indonesian experience was living with a fantastic host family and meeting many people from all over the world. Some of the people I have met in Surabaya will remain my friends forever. It is very rewarding and interesting to have possibility to live your everyday life like a member of exotic culture, to eat the local food and to listen to local stories.

The last, but not the least important thing to mention is Indonesia itself, one of the most beautiful countries I have even seen. The landscapes are truly breathtaking, the culture overwhelming in its richness and the people very welcoming. I would recommend being a part of AIESEC experience to anyone who is ready to face new challenges, not afraid of encountering cultural differences and curious about the indescribable wonders of our world!

Overcoat, boots, scarf, and merino wool based sweater have become my all loyal companions since I decided to have my winter internship in UC Web, China. Never ever crossed my mind before that I could spend a wonderful six months internship in such a prestigious technology company, an industry that has not yet been exist now in Indonesia. Talented young employees, no strict office business attire, well-integrated business departments, superb office facilities, and many other things that an intern could wish for.

Currently I am working in the International Product Department and as the only native Indonesian, mass contributions for such market penetration are strongly expected in my position. Working ethic is also one of the benefits that a foreign intern can learn in UC Web, a Chinese company. Hardworking, Passionate, Respect, and Punctual are some ethical elements that worldwide citizen could admit as the power of North East Asian companies.

As an individual, I could say that I gained tremendous professional learning experiences with UC Web. In my third month of internship, I was rewarded and honored to be a part of the team in business trip to Indonesia. The moment to have a glance of my motherland during internship was truly an irreplaceable feeling. Aside from professional experiences, UC Web also provides me the warmth of being home. Colleagues are very supportive and friendly. They treat foreigners just like their local friends even families. We spent every weekend together, exploring Guangzhou and other parts of China, simply just for fun or upsize our tummy for some local delicacies. At last, I could say this is not just like any other internship. With AIESEC, it is always more than experience, excitement and exposure.

AIESEC Global network consists of 120+ countries and territories.

Through out the year, AIESEC in Indonesia has enabled intense leadership development experience to thousands of youth. There were 1236 AIESEC members who actively gave contribution in generating impactful exchange experience while getting their own personal development learning through taking intensive team experience program. 

Not less than 130 members in AIESEC in Indonesia have taken one year role in Local Committee Executive Board (LCEB), being the strategic management body in every local entity. In implementing strategy and managing operation, LCEBs were continuously supported by 220 Team Leaders and Managers. These

field coordinators were responsible in leading 956 team members in order to deliver the best life changing experience to the generation Y in our country. 

They are the foundation of the whole structure of these global organisation. They are the leaders in AIESEC Indonesia who has participated in developing thousands of young people and has been developed by theirs intense experience. They are young people who continuously believe that they can really make positive evolution by executing and enabling more accessible experiences in order to generate more relevant leader to create positive impact in society.

*Cases closed: the rate we measured for how many complaints from our customers which we were able to solve.

One of our clear focuses was to make AIESEC in Indonesia a more customer-centric organization. We carried forward our organization to focus on quality through usage of the Net Promoter Score (NPS) as a measuring tool. AIESEC Indonesia focused not only on implementing an NPS system but also tried to embody the organizational behavior of providing high quality customer experiences by being customer-centric to our stakeholders.

Customer Experience Management

The project was started by working on the quality of our exchange experiences delivered but by the end evolved into implemention of a Customer Experience Management which comprised of quality measurement of our experience delivery, process improvement, product innovation, firefighting and understanding the impact of our experiences.

Since its founding in 1912, Dale Carnegie Training has evolved from the belief of the importance of self-development into a training institute based performance of the largest in the world. The focus of this organization is to give business people the opportunity to hone their skills and improve their performance so as to give a positive result, consistent and profitable. Emirsyah Satar

Emirsyah Satar was born in Jakarta, June 28, 1959, holds a Bachelor of Economics in Accounting from the University of Indonesia and completed the Diploma program at the Sorbonne University, Paris.

Emirsyah Satar has been the Chief Executive Officer and President Director at PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk since March 16, 2005.

February 2012 was his first time being engaged to AIESEC in Indonesia as Board of Advisors member.

Ita Budhi

Currently, she is a commissioner of the Independent BII since August 27, 2010.

Since in the same year, she has been a Technical Advisor on PricewaterhouseCoopers Indonesia.

She was one of the re-founders of AIESEC in Indonesia in 1986 when she studied in University of Indonesia.

A woman who has high spirit and loves hiking was engaged to AIESEC in Indonesia Board of Advisors membership in October 2011.

Daniel Surya

Daniel Surya is South East Asia Chairman of DM-IDHOLLAND, a Global Brand Identity network of WIR group & ID-HOLLAND.

Under his leadership, in early 2010, DM brands – Indonesia was re-positioned into a group offering, and has been growing from 7 employees and a quarter million USD in business to 70 employees in just within 15 months of its operation.

He was awarded for Individual Category as 2011 Brand Builder of The Year from Global Awards for Branding Excellence in Mumbai, India.

She is the the Steering Committee of National Bureaucracy Reform, Chairman of PT. Samudera Indonesia Tbk, and Chairwoman of PT. Asuransi Bintang Tbk. She finished her study in 1974 from the Munich University of Technology, Germany, with a specialization in Electrical Computer Engineering Department. AIAO (AIESEC Indonesia Alumni Organization) is a platform for AIESEC in Indonesia alumni to gather, interact, and to contribute back to AIESEC. AIAO is actively managed by alumni of AIESEC in Indonesia themselves.

AIESEC Alumni Thirsday

This event is a monthly gathering for all AIESEC alumni in Indonesia to share and update the latest news about AIESEC. It is simply an informal platform for alumni to connect and communicate with other while expanding their networking activities. This event was held in collaboration with AIESEC LC University of Indonesia in the implementation of arranging the event, inviting the alumni, coordinating regular survey, etc.

Alumni World

Alumni World is an initiative of AIESEC in Indonesia to build a sustainability of Alumni Engagement to AIESEC organizationally and also to increase the diversity of alumni engaged with

AIESEC. The target audience is AIESEC Indonesia members that come from cities where AIESEC exist in Indonesia as attendees in national conferences.

The mission of this session is to inspire and prepare our members to be good leaders and inspire others to activate their leadership to be the next leader.

Leaders For Leaders

AIAO initiated a program called “Leaders for Leaders” (L4L) to support AIESEC in Indonesia in continuously building a healthy leadership pipeline.

How Does It Work?• It is a series of initiatives, which includes

a mentorship program• A one-year long mentorship program

focusing on leadership capability development

• One mentor (AIESEC alumnus) for one mentee (AIESEC leader) 

• Duration: July 2013 – June 2014• Regular discussions (in person, skype, call,

email) at least once per month

Conferences

Conference is one of the global learning platforms we enable for our members to proactively develop themselves and to cultivate the values of the organization. Annually AIESEC in Indonesia actively hosts and participates in local, national, and international conferences. In 2012/2014 we have successfully held 5 National conferences with different strategic objectives.

National Functional Summit (NFS) in July 2012

As the first conference in our annual conference cycle, NFS has the main objective to gather all leaders across AIESEC Indonesia in the Management Board level. AIESEC in Binus was the first Expansion Entity that hosted of National Functional Summit. Taken place in TMII, East Jakarta, NFS was attended by more than 120 leaders. Several credible external speakers, who came from Isobar and DMID-HOLLAND was supported AIESEC Indonesia in equipping soft skills for our members.

Management Board Conference (MBC) in October 2012

Indonesia Youth Leadership Conference (IYLC) 2012

IYLC is an annual induction conference for members across AIESEC in Indonesia. In this conference, new members got to know about what AIESEC is and how this organization gives impact to society. This year, AIESEC Indonesia also held the first Youth to Business Forum, which was opened for public and involved several big companies, such as Garuda Indonesia, Timken, Bank Bukopin, Mandiri, Ristra and Voyej. Several international facilitators coming from Mexico, The Philippines, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Romania also gave crucial contribution in developing our future leaders.

National Election Conference (NEC) 2013

With the theme of “Answering the Call, Embracing Impact”, MBC was aiming to develop our members to be relevant leaders to the country. This conference’s main objective is to have strategic quarterly review and to re-align the national direction, to perform faster, bolder and better. MBC was also focused on leadership and skill development for Management Board members. Hosted by AIESEC in LC Universitas Brawijaya, MBC 2012 was successfully held with more than 180 delegates and was supported by international facilitators coming from Poland, Italy, and Slovakia.

Hosted by AIESEC LC Universitas Diponegoro, we successfully gathered 150 young leaders across Indonesia to witness the election process of the next President of AIESEC in Indonesia. This National conference also has the objective to have collaborative re-planning for the final semester of AIESEC in Indonesia to deliver our promise in enabling leadership development experiences. In this conference, we were happy to welcome a new family member, AIESEC LC UGM who gained the full member status and officially became the 7th LC in AIESEC in Indonesia.

National Strategic Conference (NSC) 2013

In the previous years, this conference was called National Planning Conference and for this year AIESEC Indonesia changed the name of the conference along with adding one crucial objective. As the last national conference in term 12/13, National Strategic Conference has two crucial objectives. The first one is to plan the next strategy for the next generation and also to reinforce the current leadership body to take the final bold step for our final sprint. This conference also enabled several Alumni preparation sessions for the outgoing team. One of them is the Business Model You session delivered by Mr. Bido Budiman. In this conference, AIAO launched the new program for AIESEC in Indonesia leaders, called Leaders for Leaders (L4L). It is a new mentorship model system that was constructed as a supporting system for Presidents in Local Committees, Member Committee of AIESEC Indonesia, and also several local members continuing their journeys in other AIESEC entities.

International Conferences

AIESEC in Indonesia 12/13 has brought contribution to the network through several international conferences. We sent 8 representatives (6 MC members and 2 LCPs) in International Congress in Moscow, Russia, in August 2012. In this annual strategic conference, we were aligning the global direction to our current reality together with all 113 entities in the network.

We also sent representatives to Asia Pacific ER Summits in China, Taiwan and SIngapore as delegates, facilitators in National Conference in Singapore, delegates in Asia Pacific Exchange and Leadership Development Seminar in Singapore, facilitator in Middle East & North Africa Exchange and Leadership Development Seminar in Lebanon, and delegates for Euro Expro as well as South East Asia Conference. We were honoured to be awarded in AP Regional Achievement Award which achieved by AIESEC LC Universitas Indonesia for their achievement through AIESEC LC Universitas Indonesia and AP Sub Regional Excellence Award which achieved by AIESEC LC Bandung for their achievement through AIESEC LC Bandung in APXLDS 2013 in Singapore.

Youth To Business Forum

Indonesia Youth to Business (Y2B) Forum 2012 is an event and platform for young people and delegates from economy and policy who want to come together to discuss ideas and solutions for the future of our society. The topics of discussion for this year are centered around the concepts ‘leadership’, ‘innovation’ and ‘corporate responsibility’ and their relation to contemporary youth. Held in Crowne Plaza, Jakarta, this event was carried out on 30th of November 2012 and openned by keynote speeches by Prijastono Purwanto, Vice President Service Planning and Development of Garuda Indonesia and Roy Darmawan, Expert Team of Economic Affairs Coordinator Minister of the Republic of Indonesia.

Objectives:• Building leadership and practical team

member capacity in terms of mindset, skills, and attitude/behavior.

• Prepare personally and professionally in starting leadership and social experience.

• Aligning mindset of organizational understanding.

• Connect corporate sector to youth potential to gain more ideas and networks.

• Connect AIESEC relevance in becoming part of change and solution to the world’s problem.

At this unique event we frame the conversations with a question and we aim to create a space where all delegates and guests can connect and explore the question and how it affects different topics of discussion. Business representatives will do this through keynote and highlighted speakers, interactive workshops, open spaces, and a panel discussion. AIESEC Indonesia Expansions

AIESEC in Indonesia was established in 1984 and since its origin AIESEC was present only think 6 local offices till 2009. Since then AIESEC Indonesia made a conscious choice to be not just think about our existing location but to spread the impact of AIESEC in more location in Indonesia. The reasons for focusing on Expansions was:• Indonesia being a large country with 8 major

islands, we wanted to stretch our reach to new islands and cities.

• As we were growing our operations and chasing ambitious mid-term goals, it was an obvious all important strategy.

• By reaching out to more universities, we were increasing our relevance as on organization.

• Students and Universities wanted to be part of AIESEC. We had to answer the call!

We released several online campaigns to attract more young people to be engaged with AIESEC. We initiated themes like Eddie Comic -which focuses in promoting exchanges through comic style- and Exchange in Ramadhan -which focuses in promoting exchange value proposition in Ramadhan month.

Compare to 2011-2012 annual profit, Income Statement of AIESEC Indonesia 2012-2013 showed significant decline in amount of profit. This is caused by the regular income from 6 local committees in 2nd quarter (that amount to Rp 267.005.937,00) will be invoiced in the next financial period due to the change of focus in Finance department. Nevertheless, in comparison from the previous term, AIESEC Indonesia asset rise for 20% from Rp 879.611.160 in 2011-2012 to Rp 1.053.030.126 in 2012-2013 which means that the profitability of the organization in 2012-2013 is increasing.

Revenue:In total, revenue has increased compared to last year’s result, mainly because of the growth in exchange programs, especially in GCDP EP executed by local committee. The revenue should’ve been more if the implementation of national fee had been structurally executed.

Expense:Expense has increased from the previous year, mainly because we invested more to travel costs to visit local entities more often in order to give relevant support to the local entities, and also sending people to the global/regional strategic meetings or conferences.

Month Reserved is 6 months.

Investment:

AIESEC Indonesia invested to ensure that the standardized process implementation increases significantly in rate and scale. The investment focused on:• Local Entity Visit for all local committees and expansions all over Indonesia to ensure we

had valid information about what’s happening in the ground in order to build customized strategies.

• National and International Conference/Summit held by AIESEC Indonesia or attended by AIESEC Indonesia representatives.

Finance Highlight

More than doing accounting, Finance sub team was aware of the entrepreneurial side of Finance as a function. Therefore, several activities done by Finance are:• Finance Coaching for AIESEC in The Philippines. This visit aimed to spread and share

good case practice that AIESEC Indonesia has. At the same time, this meeting enabled stronger connection between 2 countries.

• Compendium Review aimed to ensure that the basic organizational regulations that we have in the compendium are relevant to the current state of AIESEC Indonesia.

• Internal Audit aimed to enhance the Finance processes done by local committees and also expansions.
