What is AIG Nurturing? by Rebekah Davis y Rebekah Davis y Rebekah Davis y Rebekah Davis AIG nurturing specialists teach all K – 3 grade classrooms for a minimum of 30 minutes during most weeks. These teachers lead a thinking skills lesson—most of which comes directly from the Primary Education Thinking Skills (PETS) program. Anecdotal evidence and student work are collected for “portfolios.” These may be used to help identify students who display characteristics of gifted thinkers. These students work with the AIG specialists an additional time for small group lessons. The lessons usually involve a different or more advanced version of the thinking skill that was taught in the whole class setting. For example, when studying divergent and convergent thinking on logic puzzles, simpler puzzles were distributed during whole class instruction; more complex puzzles were introduced to the small group. The shift to common core and 21 st century skills has created an even greater need for these types of lessons and activities to nurture the 4 Cs in our students – creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication. Third grade Cognitive Abilities testing is completed and results are back. Students are being screened for possible formal testing. AIG committees are meeting and recommendations are being made. Other meetings are being held to assist with revising the AIG Plan. Students are learning and being challenged to think in different ways. ¿Qué es Enriquecimiento AIG? por Rebekah Davis¿Qué es Enriquecimiento AIG? por Rebekah Davis¿Qué es Enriquecimiento AIG? por Rebekah Davis¿Qué es Enriquecimiento AIG? por Rebekah Davis Los especialistas de enriquecimiento de AIG enseñan en todos los salones de Kínder a 3er grado por un mínimo de 30 minutos casi todas las semanas. Estos maestros enseñan una lección de habilidades de pensamiento la cual la mayor parte proviene directamente del programa Habilidades de Pensamiento para la Educación de Primaria (PETS por sus siglas en inglés). Se colecta la evidencia anecdótica y el trabajo de los estudiantes para sus “portafolios.” Estos se pueden usar para ayudar a identificar a los estudiantes que muestran características de pensadores superdotados. Estos estudiantes trabajan con los especialistas de AIG por más tiempo para lecciones en grupos pequeños. Las lecciones usualmente incluyen una versión diferente o más avanzada de la habilidad de pensamiento que se enseña en la clase completa. Por ejemplo, se repartieron rompecabezas más sencillos durante la instrucción de toda la clase y rompecabezas más complejos se usaron en los grupos pequeños al estudiar el pensamiento divergente y convergente usando rompecabezas de lógica. El cambio a los Estándares Esenciales Comunes Básicos y las habilidades del programa 21stcentury ha creado una mayor necesidad para estos tipos de lecciones y actividades para enriquecer las 4 “C” de nuestros estudiantes: la creatividad, el pensamiento crítico, la colaboración y la comunicación.

Las evaluaciones de las Habilidades Cognitivas para el tercer grado se han completado y tenemos los resultados. Se les está administrando pruebas preliminares a los estudiantes para determinar la posibilidad de una evaluación formal. Los comités de AIG se están reuniendo y se están haciendo recomendaciones. El objetivo es de maximizar el potencial mientras se cumplen con las necesidades individuales incluyendo las del ámbito social/emocional a través de la implementación de lecciones diferenciadas, el estudio independiente y otras estrategias.
