What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
The CameraSTRENGTHS: The professional camera allowed us to film what we wanted in a higher quality than if we
were to use a phone or flip camera. We were able to take the camera and tripod to a variety of different locations as they were
both portable and easy to carry The camera helped make our film look authentic and professional
WEAKNESSES: It was difficult to focus the camera when we were zooming in and out of shots Sometimes, the lighting was not favourable to the camera so some of the shots came out
unclear as they were very dark. As the camera was quite large, it was difficult to film some shots by hand when the tripod
would not applicable for the angle that we wanted, so our handheld shots tended to be fairly shaky.
Overcoming the problems The problem of focusing the camera was overcome by being really slow
and patient with the zoom button As we needed a dark atmosphere for our film, we could not solve the
lighting problem by turning on the lights in the house so we had to use the special lighting equipment that comes with the camera. We also re-filmed some of the shots that we thought would turn out okay but didn’t.
As opposed to holding the camera and filming by hand, we put the tripod on different platforms such as tables, chairs, desks, etc. to help make it look like it was handheld as well as get steady footage at the desired angle.
The iMac Used for research Had programmes specific for editing
iMovie We used to edit our footage We added a soundtrack to make our thriller opening convincing.
FinalCut Pro We were able to professionally edit some shots such as improving the mise-en-scene and
making some changes to the lighting, e.g. making some shots darker to fit the thriller genre more adequately
Blogger
‘Blogger’ is a website that we used in probably every media lesson involving our coursework, as this was where we uploaded our research and evaluation onto.
We learnt to use many programmes to use to upload our research in many different unique ways – these programmes include Prezi, SlideShare and YouTube.
