1st Antiphon (Psalm 44) My heart hath poured forth a good word, I speak of my works to the King. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Saviour, save us. My tongue is the pen of a swiftly writing scribe. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Saviour, save us. Grace hath been poured forth on Thy lips. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Saviour, save us. Wherefore God hath blessed Thee forever. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Saviour, save us. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. Through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O Saviour, save us.

2nd Antiphon (Psalm 44) Gird Thy sword upon Thy thigh, O Mighty One, in Thy comeliness and Thy beauty. O Son of God who art risen from the dead, save us who sing to Thee:

Alleluia! Bend thy bow and proceed prosperously. O Son of God who art risen from the dead, save us who sing to Thee:

Alleluia! Thine arrows are sharp, O Mighty One. Under Thee shall peoples fall. O Son of God who art risen from the dead, save us who sing to Thee:

Alleluia! A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Thy kingdom. O Son of God who art risen from the dead, save us who sing to Thee:

Alleluia! Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. and “Only-begotten Son…”

3rd Antiphon (Psalm 44 & Troparion of the Meeting) Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear: forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house.

Rejoice, O virgin Theotokos, full of grace! For from thee shone the Sun of righteousness, Christ our God, enlightening those who sat in darkness! Rejoice and be glad, O righteous elder, carrying in thine arms the Redeemer of our souls, who grants us the resurrection.

Even the rich among the people shall entreat thy favor. Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos full of grace…. I will make thy name to be remembered in all generations. Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos full of grace…

The Daily Hymns Troparion of the Resurrection (Tone 3)

Let the heavens rejoice and the earth be glad; for the Lord hath done a mighty act with his own arm. He hath trampled down death by death and become the Firstborn from the dead. He hath delivered us from the depths of hades, granting the world great mercy.

Troparion for the Presentation (Tone 1) Rejoice, O virgin Theotokos, full of grace! For from thee shone the Sun of righteousness, Christ our God, enlightening those who sat in darkness! Rejoice and be glad, O righteous elder, carrying in thine arms the Redeemer of our souls, who grants us the resurrection.

Troparion of the Prophet Elias (Tone 4) he incarnate Angel and the Prophets’ summit and boast, the

forerunner of the second coming of Christ our God, Elias the glorious, from above sent down his grace upon Elisha; he doth cast out sickness and doth also cleanse lepers; and unto all that honour him, he poureth forth streams of cures.

Kontakion of the Presentation (Tone 1) Thou, who didst sanctify the virginal womb by thy nativity and didst bless the hands of Simeon, hast come this day and saved us, O Christ God. Grant peace and strength to the Orthodox people whom thou hast loved, O only Lover of mankind.

Lectionary Prokeimenon in Tone 7 (Psalm 28)

The Lord will give strength unto His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.

Bring unto the Lord, ye sons of God, bring unto the Lord the sons of rams; bring unto the Lord glory and honor.

The Reading is from the Second Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Corinthians (6:1-10) Brethren, working together with him, then, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, “At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation.” Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. We put no obstacle in any one’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, watching, hunger; by purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet well known: as dying, and behold we live; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything. Alleluia Verses in Tone 7 (from Psalms 91)

It is good to give praise unto the Lord, and to chant unto Thy Name, O Most High.

To proclaim in the morning Thy mercy, and Thy truth by night.

The Holy Gospel — St. Matthew (25:14-30) The Lord spoke this parable: “A man going on a journey called

his servants and entrusted to them his property; to one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. He who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and made five talents more. So also, he who had the two talents made two talents more. But he who had received the one talent went and dug in the ground and hid his master’s money. Now after a long time the master of those servants came and settled accounts with them. And he who had received the five talents came forward, bringing five talents more, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me five talents; here I have made five talents more.’ His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.’ And he also who had received the two talents came forward, saying, ‘Master, you delivered to me two talents; here I have made two talents more.’ His master said to him, ‘Well

done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a little, I will set you over much; enter into the joy of your master.’ He also who had received the one talent came forward, saying, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you did not winnow; so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground. Here you have what is yours.’ But his master answered him, ‘You wicked and slothful servant! You know that I reap where I have not sowed, and gather where I have not winnowed? Then you ought to have invested my money with the bankers, and at my coming I should have received what was my own with interest. So take the talent from him, and give it to him who has the ten talents. For to every one who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the worthless servant into the outer darkness; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.’”

As he said this, he called out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

Sermon: Father David Barr

At the Divine Liturgy during the Great Entrance, we normally commemorate only Orthodox Christians by name among the living and departed since this is the Church praying for the Church. Non-Orthodox are remembered liturgically in prayers at Vespers and other intercessory services of the Church.

On Receiving Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church: Only Orthodox Christians who are prepared through prayer, fasting, and a recent sacramental confession should approach the Chalice for the Eucharist. The Orthodox Church does not practice “open communion” and has no intercommunion with other churches (non-Orthodox). If you have any questions concerning this, please talk to one of the priests before taking communion.

And Remember… …to receive Holy Communion, one should be present at the Divine Liturgy no later than the time for the Epistle and Gospel readings. We feed both our minds and our hearts as part of the Orthodox Christian life. To feast on the Lord without listening to his words is disrespectful.

Did you know? Our priests have many pieces to their vestments, but did you know that only one garment is absolutely necessary whenever a priest is serving? The epitrachelion (from Greek – epi = around + trachelon = the neck) is the stole worn by priests and bishops as a symbol of their priesthood. This liturgical vestment is worn around the neck with the two adjacent sides sewn or buttoned together, leaving enough space through which to place the head. The priest wears the epitrachelion by itself during Vespers or Orthros. When he is fully vested for a Liturgy, the stole is worn over some garments and under others and it is not as visible. Watch carefully. What is the vestment the priest wears when he blesses your home? Sign up to bake Holy Bread! Would you like to sign up for Holy Bread? We are always in need of bread. Email Fr. David and let him know you would like to offer Holy Bread. We need 6-7 loaves each Sunday. Young Adult Discussion Group We'll be meeting at a few local pubs and breweries to talk about spirituality, theology, and learning how to get by in the contemporary world. First meeting TBD.
