2.3 VMware Network Setup

Prerequisites

You have installed VMware.

Your network on the notebook will be in terms of VMware “Host-only“. The network of yournotebook will be shared with the virtual machine or machines, but separated from the networkyou are probably connected to. Therefore no side effects on your network(s) will take place.

If you follow the recommendations, you may switch to “Nat” without changing any networksettings, but being able to connect your virtual machine to external networks (Internet, …).

As it works like any other network, you will have to do some preparations to participate fromthe benefits of the virtual network.

You will need the “command line processor“ from your Windows.

1. Click the “Start“ button, then „Run…“.

2. Type „ cmd “, select „OK“.

Please write down the IPv4 address of the “VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter for Vmnet1“(from the example above line 7). You will have to provide addresses from this range to theinstallation later on.

During the installation you will be asked for your

DNS server Standard Gateway Server Virtual host

A working example setup will be the IPv4 address from ipconfig, but changed appropriately:

DNS = xxx.xxx.xxx.1 Standard Gateway = xxx.xxx.xxx.2 Server= xxx.xxx.xxx.100 Virtual host = xxx.xxx.xxx.150

Where „xxx“ must be replaced by the values from ipconfig. Please note „ xxx“ stands for amaximum of three digits to be replaced if necessary by one or two digits if given by ipconfig.

In case of ainstallation on a server please stick to your administration.

Hostname: <your computer’s hostname>Domain name: <your domain Name>IP-address: <IP-address of the server>Subnet mask: <Subnet mask>(most important, this must be the same as from„ipconfig /all“.)

1. Fill in appropriately:

For VMware: Select the IPv4 address from your your „VMware Virtual Ethernet Adapter forVmnet1“ (from ipconfig /all) as „nameserver“ and this address for the „default gateway“, butchanging the last digit to: „2“.

For Vmware: Please give the virtual host an address from the address range determinedearlier by “ipconfig”. Only change the last digits from the determined adresses.

Remark/Notice: the path provided in the mask will point you to the first detected drive.Only in a non-standard environment (USB drive or virtual drive) you may have to manuallyadapt the path to your DVD drive.

9. Usually the installation kit contains the following media:

1 – SAP Installation Master2 – SAP Export Baseline Media 13 – SAP Export Baseline Media 2

Enter the media labeled “SAP Installation Master” and change to the next media onrequest. For Vmware: change the path to the needed ISO file (Chapter “How to use the ISO files”).
