Awal Gulf India has started Air Handling Units manufacturingoperations in India this year.

The focus in our day and age is not only on our "ENvironment", but also onour "INvironment”; where the “Indoor Air Quality" (IAQ) helps prioritize the airsafety standard of our living and working condition indoors. IAQ refers to thenature of air within an inhabited, enclosed space. In many large, commercial, andconditioned spaces the occupants have virtually no control over their environment;the space could be filled with dust, tobacco smoke, chemical vapor, pesticidesprays, fine carbon dust from copying machines, etc and not even know about it.Due to the pollutants mentioned above, it has been observed that air in aconditioned area can be up to ten times more polluted than the air outside whichmay pose a great health risk due to its high level of concentration. Therefore, it issafe to conclude that the IAQ plays an important and major role in the health stateof the conditioned spaces we work and live in.

This is where the Double Skin Air Handling Units are introduced, comprisingof the following components: fans, filters, dampers, and ducts (that deliver cool orhot air throughout a building), this product assists by permitting only the mosthygienic type of air into your enclosed space thus improving the IAQ to help you,your family, and your work colleagues to live a better healthier life indoors.

Why Air Handling Units?

Beyond The Frame:The main framework for the AGC unit

series is undoubtedly the first piece of the puzzle. It isthe skeletal body which holds the whole unit togetherhousing within it the internal components. Thisskeletal frame is comprised of Extruded AluminumProfile it is known for its anticorrosive quality and isthe principal material found in the market today; with apromise to withstand the most excruciating weatherand stand the test of time. Each of the aluminumframe sides are attached to each other by ReinforcedABS-plastic to help avoid condensation at the corners.

Optional: Thermal Break Profiles for OutdoorInstallations.

The ‘Sandwich’ Paneling:All panels are double skinned

constructions which allow for easy inspection andmaintenance thus helping to reduce the risk ofdirt and bacteria accumulation as well as a lowrisk of erosion of internal insulation material thatmight contaminate the air stream. Each of thepanels is made up of an inner and outer layerskin with a thickness range of 45mm or 25mmthick. The outer panels are 0.7 mm thick of pre-painted sheet while the inner are 0.5 mm of zinccoated sheet. The insulation is comprised offiber glass with a density of 40 kg/m3 providingan overall „k‟ value of 0.68 w/m2k. The panelsare also assembled with imported self-drilling &self tapping screws which are fixed to the frameand easily removable.

Optional: Injected insulation of polyurethanefoam of 40 kg/m3 density.

Elite Features :

The Base of the Frame:The base of the unit sections is made

up of Sheet metal sections of 1.6 mm thk GI boltedtogether with GI bolts to help assure the completestability of the product as well as permit easy lifting,handling, and positioning on site. Gaskets andsealing material are readily available with thesectional splits of each unit as well as connectionclamps to adhere to quick and airtight site assembly.

Fan-tastic:All units are equipped with one fan of the

highest certification which is thereby driven by asingle motor. The fan itself is of double inlet doublewidth (DIDW) with a forward centrifugal curveattached to anti-vibration spring isolators that helpisolate the fan wheels from the main structural bodythus causing a static and dynamic balance thatminimizes vibrations and reduces noise pollution.The fan, similar to the main frame is also made ofgalvanized steel material. The centrifugal fan hasflexible connections between the fan discharge andcasing to reduce vibration transmission.

Optional: Backward curved or Aerofoil Fans, BeltGuard, Door Limit Switch.

Ready, Steady, Motor and Drive:The motor and drive package for each

unit are individually hand selected to meet thehighest performance standard. The motor is of theTEFC (Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled) model, class „F‟

insulation with IP-55 motor protection. The fan motorassembly will be installed on a separate base framesupported and isolated from the main unit structureby rubber mounts. For each of the components, thefan and the motor are assigned fixed pulleys to helptransfer the motion.

Optional: Variable Pitch Pulleys for Motor andVariable Frequency Drives (VFD).

Moisture Eliminator:At Awal Gulf we earnestly strive to offer

our customers the best productivity as well aslongevity of our merchandise. Therefore, when the Air-handling Unit is faced with a higher air velocity due toan increase in power (greater than 500 FPM or 2.5m/s), a water carry over results and to help evadesuch detrimental results the moisture or DropletEliminator is recommended.

The Polypropylene-bladed Droplet Eliminator arespecially designed to meet any usable needs in the airtreatment. The screwed extruded aluminum frame isextremely solid and gives sturdiness to the wholestructure.

Coils:Manufactured from state of the art technology,the water cooling coils are made up of:

a) Seamless copper with End plates made of die-formed holes that provide a parallel surface tothe coil tube for strong brazing joints. Standard1/8" brass female pipe thread (FPT) vent anddrain.

b) Corrugated plate type fin that is die-formed. Fincollars are full-drawn to provide accuratecontrol of fin spacing and maximum contactwith tubes.

c) Using 16-gauge minimum thickness material,1" flanges are formed to permit easy stackingand mounting.

All coil assemblies are leak tested under waterat 315 PSIG air. Standard construction issuitable for up to 300oF. Performance iscertified under ARI Standard 410.

Optional: Copper fins with Copper tubes orCopper tubes with Aluminum fins with aHerasite - Epoxy coating.

Drain Pan:The condensate drain pan is

mandatory in helping discharge the excessmoisture (condensation) that results from thecooling process. With drain end connections onthe front and back of the unit, the drain pan isconstructed of GI and powder coated forcorrosion resistance. It is also a wider drain panstructure with a deviated slope in a „V‟ shapethat assures quick and complete water drainagethus avoiding microbiological and mildewgrowth.

Optional: A drain pan fabricated fromstainless Steel of SS-304 grade.

Air Control Devices:In the AGC Units, the control

dampers are used for air control and to helpminimize pressure loss along with noiselevel. These mixing box dampers havecontra-rotating blades built of aerodynamicfins. These blades are driven by apolycarbonate gear mechanism and turn inopposed directions to provide a smootheroperation.

Filters:In the AGC units air filtration is of

paramount importance as this system onlyensures the best quality of IAQ. Therefore,choices of single and multi-stage Air Filtersare available to suit different environmentalconditions. Filters are placed in galvanizedframes for easier side removal and effortlessmaintenance. Manometer Plug Ports areprovided to fix Manometers and check for finalfilter pressure drops, which indicate the needfor filter maintenance or replacement. Allfilters offered are of reputed make and followASHRAE and Euro-vent conventionalstandards.

Optional: The Bag Filters, HEPA Filters.

Electric Heater:Another prominent option to the AGC

units is the electric heater; manufactured from a u-shaped finned heater element built into a heavygalvanized steel frame and positioned in the unit in aprocess that permits easy removal. Respecting safetyguidelines, the safety controls will use a hightemperature cut out mechanism specifically designedfor step control. The advantage of having a finnedtubular electric heater in comparison to an open coiledone is better safety results, protection against foreignparticles in the air, better durability, and a more eventemperature as well as being easily replaced in caseof any failure.Air flow switch is another standard feature which isprovided for additional safety to cut-off power supplyto the heater in the event of no air flow across twopoints by differential pressure.

Accessories and Beyond:

Hinges and Handles:There is a double access

standard door provided for each section of theunit comprised of the fan and filter. Thesedoors offer an easy entrance for theserviceability of both sections. Both hingesand handles are offered as two differentoptions one is made of a Black nylon while theother consists of Aluminum die cast powderwith an easy to use key and lock mechanism.Both types of hinges provide adequatestrength and safety to the door. An optionalfeature is the unhinged door where the door iscompletely taken off the actual unit andreattached through a key and internal lock.

View Port and Marine Light:A view port „window‟ is presented

on both the fan and filter door panels whichfacilitates in the monitoring and maintenanceof both areas. While a lamp/switch optionusing marine lighting helps provide enoughlight for easy visibility.

The component selections are calculated from their fundamentals andpsychometric validation charts and predictions are also included for furtherproduct precision. Equipment vendors own selection methods are also utilized toensure complete technical and financial compatibility, having the system calculatethe performance, weight, length and air pressure drop for each component. Oncedesigned, the technical submittals and GA drawings can be generated quicklyand the unit can also be sectioned for transportation or site access by using thescale representation. By this stage the complete make up of the unit isdetermined and a utility is included to allow the shop floor operator to view thepanel and mullion layout. Material consumption and labor times are also derivedfrom fundamentals giving the engineer vital information during the design stageitself, thus shortening the cycle time.

Software Selection :From customer specifications to submittals to manufacturing to

delivery of an AHU all these steps are a part of a rather complex, tedious andtime consuming journey; however Awal Gulf has made this journey easier fortheir clientele by developing a state of the art AHU Selection Program whichworks from basic principles and rules allowing customized Air Handling Units tobe designed by the consumer himself. Where, for instance, unit parameters areentered and the system automatically displays information allowing theprogrammer to make the optimum selection based on a customer's individualrequirements. The air handler is pictorially built using color coded icons and thesystem error can check all entries to ensure a viable unit has been designed.
