HIGH QUALITY AIR HANDLING UNITSDesigned to your exact requirements

We work closely with all our customers, attuned to their varying needs and expectations. This ensures that we deliver innovative solutions and offer maximum value for money.

All Sovereign Air Handling Units are assembled by our skilled engineers.

We aim to adopt the very latest industry technology and all our units are manufactured in accordance with BS EN1886:2007 (incorporating Corrigenum January 2009).

AHU air leakage test was conducted by BSRIA’s test facility during March 2012. Sovereign Air Movement take the environment very seriously in everything we do, from choosing the most efficient fans, minimising wastage of materials and the running of our business which includes savings in water, heating and lighting.

The air handling unit frame system is cut and mitred from extruded Aluminium profiles, then TIG welded to give a secure and rigid frame system capable of supporting internal component decks. TIG welding produces a clean weld, which enhances the air handling unit’s appearance.

Sovereign air handling units are finished in Plastisol Coated Finish Pre Galvanised Mild Steel as standard, which gives a long 25 year life expectancy. The standard finish is Merlin Grey. Other colours are available if required.

CASE STUDY 1Freshney Place Grimsby - G-Tech Ltd

With footfall in excess of 12 million

visitors per year, the 46,450m2

Freshney Place Shopping Centre

accounts for more than 57% of

Grimsby’s retail provision. As part

of an ongoing update programme,

Sovereign Air movement were

approached by G-Tech to replace or

upgrade the existing AHU’s which

had been operating on the site for

more than 25 years.

Freshney Place has been

accredited with the ‘Investors in

the Environment’ Silver Award, and

part of their mission statement is to:

‘Carry out regular maintenance and

improvement programmes to ensure

we operate an environmentally

responsible building’.

Sovereign’s own policy of ensuring

required energy standards are

met for building ventilation, made

the collaboration with G-Tech and

Freshney Place a natural choice.

Each unit would be a direct

replacement for the older systems

and include a 100kW gas fired

heater and heat wheel recovery

system for maximum efficiency. With

the old units and ducting stripped

out, transport was arranged for

delivery of the next generation

units in five sections together with

a trailer and crane. Sovereign’s

regular transport company, Five Star

Haulage of Leeds, played a key role

in tentatively manoeuvring the units

via a ramp onto the shopping centre

roof; a challenging operation in itself.

With the units bolted together and

all internal wiring and ductwork

modifications complete, we passed

on to our client to link with their

control systems. When fully wired,

Sovereign arranged for testing of the

gas burner and full commissioning

took place.

CASE STUDY 2Amazon Warehouse - Rugby Gateway

Sovereign Air Movement have won

a first order with PWP Building

Services to supply five Air Handling

Units for a vast new Amazon facility

at Rugby Gateway; a 120 acre prime

site development situated at the

heart of the UK logistics ‘Golden

Triangle’. The 120,000 Sq. ft.

Amazon Warehouse and Distribution

Centre was opened in August 2017.

Sovereign are proud to have

supplied and completed installation

of the five air handling units

together with the necessary

secondary equipment to provide

a cost effective and practical air

handling solution for this eminent

project.

The installation comprised:

• 2 Spot Cooling units (one

external to the building with the

other internal mounted on the

mezzanine) c/w dx cooling to

serve the main warehouse floor

area with a duty of 10.85m3/s.

These units incorporate Reverse

cycle evaporative cooling with a

capacity of 200kw.

• 1 Ground Floor Amenities Heat

Recovery AHU supply 0.4m3/s

extract 0.31 m3/s. Actual Heat

Recovery efficiency up to 90%.

• 1 First Floor Offices Heat

CASE STUDY 3Wigan Fire Station - Quartzelec

Sovereign Air Movement are pleased

to have supplied the Air Handling

Unit to the prestigious new Wigan

Community Fire and Ambulance

Station. With low running costs

high on the client’s list of priorities,

we installed a high efficiency heat

recovery system with a thermal heat

wheel option in order to provide

optimal heat recovery at the lowest

possible cost.

The unit itself is situated external

to the building and set within the

confines of the complex and full

inbuilt protection and roof were

included. The supply and extract

fans are all EC type plug fans and

inverter controlled to maximise

efficiency. As with all Sovereign’s EC

range they conform to the Energy

related Product (ErP) Directive.

Sovereign prepared the unit by

painting all the exterior louvres

in a way that complemented the

cladding of the building. Delivered

in one section, the unit was craned

into position on a pre-installed base

frame: the entire installation process

took about one hour to complete.

Sovereign Air Movement comments:

“We have worked closely with our

valued client Quartzelec on this

esteemed project and have recently

received a further order for two Air

Handling Units at Menai Science

Park. We very much look forward to

building on our business relationship

and future collaboration.”

CASE STUDY 5Cartwright Hall Museum - Bradford

Sovereign Air Movement Supplied

a new Air Handling Unit for the

newly refurbished David Hockney

Hall in the Cartwright Hall Bradford

Museum.

Sovereign manufactured an Air

Handling Unit to do a Supply and

Extract Airflow of 2.0m3/s @ 300

Pascal external static pressure.

The unit was manufactured to meet

the British Museum Society and ERP

Directive Specifications and include:

Inverter Driven Plug Fans, Filters to

G4 and F7 Grade, Thermal Wheel

Heat Recovery, DX Cooling Coil,

LPHW Heating Coil, Electric Heater

The unit casing was finished

internally and externally with

plastisol coated finish panels. A full

drain tray was fitted under the entire

AHU to catch any water spillage and

unit was supplied and installed in the

plant room within the allotted time

and fell well within the project brief.

CASE STUDY 6Kellogg’s Manchester

This project involved two Air Handling

Unit designs: the first was to cover

an area of 25.0m3/s and the second

to cover 22.0m3/s. Both units were

produced to identical size parameters,

after establishing that each unit would

be capable of handling the required air

volumes.

Both units were a replacement of

existing units which were no longer fit

for purpose. The two units were to be

located in the Cornflake line operating

area.

Manufactured by Sovereign, the product

brief specified that the units must be

produced to Kellogg’s own design

criteria. Food grade standard was an

essential factor with the facility for full

wash down capability. This meant there

would have to be a comprehensive

drainage system with drain trays

positioned beneath all the units.

The units comprised of the following

construction & items:

• Both Units were 50mm fully welded

aluminium frames and finish painted.

• 200mm fully welded and painted

steel base.

• Plastisol Outer panels with 304

Stainless Steel Grade Internal Panels.

• Weather Cowl & 316L Stainless Steel

Inlet Dampers.

Impeller. (Each Fan on AHU01 has a

45.0Kw motor, & on AHU02 they had

30.0Kw Motors).

• The Kellogg’s specification to meet

food grade standard, drain trays

were fitted in all areas to allow for

full wash down of the units.

• The fan motors have to be mounted

on an additional internal base in

order to allow wash down but also

handle the weight of the fan/motors.

• High Grade Synthetic Filter Ridged

Bag Filters - C/W 304 Stainless Steel

Filter Frames.

CASE STUDY 7JCT Porsche

Sovereign were successful in winning

this prestigious order to supply 3

Packaged integrated air handling

units to provide, supply and extract

air to the showroom and offices at

the Porsche dealership in Leeds.

These units were designed to

match up with the original unit roof

openings to eliminate any roof work

requirements. Once the old units

were removed, the new units could

then be craned into position, fixed

to the original roof mountings, wired

and be ready to run within a couple

of hours. The installation window to

carry out the work was extremely

narrow due to strict time constraints.

The whole operation had to be

carried out within one day which

included de-commissioning and

removal of the original units. The

installation was achieved on time

and to the customer’s satisfaction.

These Sovereign units installed

were built to the highest efficiency

specifications and meet the latest

ERP regulations.
