BRUSH INFORMATION

For best results, use the correct brush type for thecleaning application.

NOTE: The amount and type of soilage play animportant role in determining the type of brushesto use. Contact an authorized servicerepresentative for specific recommendations.

Polypropylene Brush − Best overall generalcleaning brush. The bristles fan out and dig intocracks to remove debris.

Polypropylene and Wire Brush −Recommended for moving heavy debris. Bestbristle mix for moving large quantities of sand andheavier debris. The bristles fan out similar to thepolypropylene brush. The wire bristles provide theability to move heavier material.

PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) Heavy DutyBrush − Recommended for areas where there isa heavy build up of debris. The stiffer / thickerbristles provide more aggressive digging action toremove compacted debris from along buildings, curbs, and in corners.

HOW THE MACHINE WORKS

The two front brushes move debris to the centerof the machine and the vacuum pulls the debrisinto the hopper. The airflow must be maintainedthrough the machine to keep it functioningproperly.

The air and debris swirl in a cyclonic rotationinside the hopper. The dust and debris drops tothe bottom of the hopper and the air exits throughvents at the rear of the machine. Screens locatedin the hopper prevent light debris (leaves, paper,etc...) from exiting the hopper and the cycloneassemblies located at the top of the hopperprevent dust particles from exiting the hopper.

WHILE OPERATING THE MACHINE

Perform the Pre−Operation Procedures beforeeach use (see MACHINE MAINTENANCE sectionof this manual).

Avoid bulky debris such as crates, boxes, treebranches, and heavy material. Avoid straps, twine, rope, etc., that could become entangled inthe brushes.

Plan the sweeping in advance. Try to arrange longruns with minimum stopping and starting. Sweepas straight a path as possible. Overlap the brushpaths. Use dust suppression in dusty conditions.

Avoid turning the steering wheel too sharply whenthe machine is in motion. The machine is veryresponsive to the movement of the steeringwheel. Avoid sudden turns, except inemergencies.

If poor sweeping performance is observed, stopcleaning and refer to MACHINETROUBLESHOOTING section of this manual.

Drive the machine slowly on inclines. Use thebrake pedal to control machine speed ondescending inclines. Sweep with the machine upinclines rather than down inclines.

Never maneuver over curbs with the brushes andnozzle down. Always raise the brushes and nozzleprior to moving over curbs. Never drive over curbsat a high speed or at a 90angle. Approach curbsat approximately a 45 angle.

In rare circumstances one wheel may lose tractionwhen moving over curbs due to uneven weightdistribution. The machine automatically providestraction to prevent the vehicle from coming to astop due to one wheel losing traction when themachine is in work mode 2.

FOR SAFETY: When using machine, go slowlyon inclines and slippery surfaces.

Do not operate machine in areas where theambient temperature is above 51 C (124 F). Donot operate sweeping functions in areas where theambient temperature is below −20 C (−4 F).

HYDRAULICS

FOR SAFETY: Before leaving or servicingmachine, stop on level surface, place drivelever in neutral, set parking brake, turn offmachine, and remove key.

Check the hydraulic fluid level daily. The hoppermust be down and the machine at operatingtemperature before checking the hydraulic fluidlevel.

ATTENTION! Do not overfill the hydraulic fluidreservoir or operate the machine with a lowlevel of hydraulic fluid in the reservoir.Damage to the machine hydraulic system mayresult.

Apply a light film of hydraulic fluid onto the fillercap gasket before reinstalling the cap onto thereservoir.

Check the hydraulic pressure filter indicator afterevery 250 hours of operation. The hydraulic filterdoes not need to be changed when the hydraulicindicator is in the depressed position.

Replace the auxiliary hydraulic pressure filter afterevery 2000 hours of operation or if the pressurefilter indicator is no longer in the depressedposition, indicating that the filter is clogged.

Replace the hydraulic return line filter after every2000 hours of operation.

MAINTENANCE

68 636 YM197 (01−2015)

Replace the auxiliary and steering pump hydraulicstrainers after every 2000 hours of operation.

Drain and refill the hydraulic fluid reservoir withnew hydraulic fluid after every 2000 hours ofoperation.

HYDRAULIC HOSES

Check the hydraulic hoses after every 250 hoursof operation for wear, damage, and leaks.

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine, usecardboard to locate leaking hydraulic fluidunder pressure.

High pressure fluid escaping from a very smallhole can almost be invisible, and can cause injury.

Contact appropriate personnel if a leak isdiscovered.

ATTENTION: Only use TENNANT suppliedhydraulic hoses or equivalent rated hydraulichoses.

HYDRAULIC FLUID

Use Turbo Diesel Engine Oil, 15W40 APICF4/ACEA2 hydraulic fluid.

If using a locally−available hydraulic fluid, be surethe specifications match the Tennant hydraulicfluid specifications. Substitute fluids can causepremature failure of hydraulic components.

ATTENTION! Hydraulic components dependon system hydraulic fluid for internallubrication. Malfunctions, accelerated wear, and damage will result if dirt or othercontaminants enter the hydraulic system.

ENGINE

FOR SAFETY: Before leaving or servicingmachine, stop on level surface, place drivelever in neutral, set parking brake, turn offmachine, and remove key.

ENGINE OIL

Check the engine oil level daily. Change the oiland filter after every 250 hours of operation.

Fill the engine with oil until the oil is between theindicator marks on the dipstick. DO NOT fill pastthe top indicator mark. The engine oil capacity is 6 L (6.35 qt) with oil filter.

COOLING SYSTEM

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine, avoidcontact with hot engine coolant.

Check the coolant level in the reservoir daily. Thecoolant level must be between the two indicatormarks when the engine is cold.

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine, donot remove cap from radiator when engine ishot. Allow engine to cool.

Check the condition of the radiator and radiatorscreen after every 250 hours of operation.

Check the coolant mixture every 750 hours ofoperation.

Flush the radiator and the cooling system afterevery 2000 hours of operation.

ENGINE BELT

Check the belt tension after every 750 hours ofoperation. Adjust tension as necessary. Properbelt tension is 7 mm to 9 mm (0.28 to 0.35 in).

WARNING: Moving belt and fan. Keepaway.

MAINTENANCE

71636 YM197 (01−2015)

FUEL FILTERS

Replace the fuel filter after every 750 hours ofoperation. To avoid extensive bleeding of the fuelsystem when replacing the fuel filter, fill the newfilter with as much diesel fuel as possible beforeinstalling the filter.

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine, keepflames and sparks away from fuel systemservice area. Keep area well ventilated.

FUEL LINES

Check the fuel lines every 50 hours of operation. Ifthe clamp band is loose, apply oil to the screw ofthe band and securely tighten the band.

The rubber fuel lines can become worn−outwhether the engine has been used much or not.Replace the fuel lines and clamp bands every twoyears.

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine, keepflames and sparks away from fuel systemservice area. Keep area well ventilated.

If the fuel lines and clamp bands are worn ordamaged before two years time; replace or repairthem at once. Bleed the fuel system afterreplacement of any fuel lines, see PRIMING THEFUEL SYSTEM. When the fuel lines are notinstalled, plug both ends with clean cloth or paperto prevent dirt from entering the lines. Dirt in thelines can cause fuel injection pump malfunction.

PRIMING THE FUEL SYSTEM

Typical diesel fuel systems require priming toremove pockets of air from the fuel lines and fuelcomponents. This is usually required after runningout of fuel, changing fuel filter elements orrepairing a fuel system component. Air in the fuelprevents smooth engine operation.

This fuel system however is self-priming. Thereturn line comes from the top of the injector thatallows the air to escape through the return line.

VALVE CLEARANCES

Check and adjust the valve clearances after every2000 hours of operation.

FOR SAFETY: Before leaving or servicingmachine, stop on level surface, place drivelever in neutral, set parking brake, turn offmachine, and remove key.

Check the electrolyte level in non−sealed batteriesafter every 250 hours of operation. Never add acidto the batteries. Add distilled water only. Alwayskeep the battery caps on, except when addingwater or taking hydrometer readings.

Using a hydrometer, measure the specific gravityto determine the charge level and condition of thebatteries. If one or more of the battery cells testlower than the other battery cells, the cell isdamaged, shorted, or is near failure. Replace thebattery if it is damaged.

Clean the battery terminals after every 750 hoursof operation. Apply a light coat of dielectric greaseonto the terminals after they have been cleaned.

FOR SAFETY: When servicing machine, avoidcontact with battery acid.

If the machine is equipped with a maintenancefree battery, clean and tighten the batteryconnections after the first 250 hours of operationand after every 750 hours after that. Do notremove the vent plugs from the battery or addwater to the battery.
