AIRC 9th Annual Conference
A New Outlook on Global Student Mobility: Recruiting in Changing Times December 6 - 9, 2017 Bonaventure Resort
Weston, Florida WelcomefromAIRC’sExecutiveDirector
DearConferenceParticipants:Dear Conference Participants: Welcome to the 2017 AIRC annual conference. I hope you will take the time to learn and share with each other in addition to participating in the wide variety of sessions covering myriad international recruitment topics. We appreciate the generosity of our conference sponsors and supporters in the exhibit hall. Be sure to visit them. We are gathered from across the USA and around the world. Welcome back to the many who come every year and a special welcome to those joining for the first time. We are indeed "Recruiting in Changing TImes" and I hope AIRC will continue to meet your needs as members and supporters. Thank you for joining us this year. Mike Finnell Executive Director WelcomefromtheConferenceCommitteeDear Colleagues, Welcome to the 2017 and the 9th Annual Conference of the American International Recruitment Council. We sincerely hope that your time here the next three plus days will be invigorating, productive and filled with memories as you meet new and old colleagues from around the world. The Conference Committee and the staff at the AIRC national office has put together an array of sessions to reflect our theme of this year’s conference “A New Outlook on Global Student Mobility: Recruiting in Changing Times”. Today, over five million students worldwide cross borders in pursuit of higher education. The mobility of students has changed over time as internationalization of higher

education has become a worldwide phenomenon in the last decade. As a result, our jobs as international educators are more challenging today than ever before from all angles – politically, socially and economically. There is more competition in recruiting nationally, regionally and globally. In addition to engaging vigorously in the sessions, we hope that you will find time to network with colleagues during the various social events we have scheduled for you. Hearing from a colleague dealing with similar issues is often the most valuable takeaway I get from a conference event. I encourage you to be fully engaged, take advantage of this exciting gathering and have some fun. The United States of America is still the leading destination for international students. It dominates with so many top ranked universities in the world. However, with the waves of change internally and rising competition globally - is the United States losing its luster, the attraction, its appeal and value? Using a point-counterpoint format, speakers will argue for and against the trends and the perception of unwelcoming environment in the United States for international students. Hear and learn both sides of the issues in this debate format session. Attendees will also have ample opportunities to engage and provide their perspectives.
