CHICAGO QUALITY

Design 10A fans are built under Chicago Blower’s strict “Industrial Quality”standards, the same standards as those used on Chicago’s custom engi-neered fans, to assure exceptional performance and reliability. Design 10Aairfoil fans feature rugged heavy gauge housings and continuously weldedscrolls. From material inspection to plasma cutting to assembly, every stepis governed by stringent quality procedures.

Chicago’s Design 10A is a ruggedmulti-purpose centrifugal fan equip-ped with an airfoil wheel suited forsupply and exhaust air and lightduty industrial applications. Withenergy efficient airfoil blades, theDesign 10A fan provides reliableand quiet operation, even in mildlycontaminated air. The fan is also suit-ed for high temperature airstreams.

Chicago Blower’s wheels feature air-foil blades continuously welded to astreamlined wheel cone and heavysteel backplate. The hollow bladeshave weep holes to prevent mois-ture build-up inside the blade.

Airfoil wheels have true non-over-loading horsepower characteristics, mechanical efficiency over 80% anda steep stable pressure curve, idealfor applications with pressure varia-tions. Should actual system pressure

Chicago’s D/10A airfoil fans are available standard inthree construction classes to meet every applicationrequirement. All classes feature heavy gauge housingsand continuously welded scroll. Class II adds additionalbracing in the larger sizes. Class III adds heavier shaftsand bearings, and wheels reinforced with a stiffenerring to withstand higher pressure.

reach 30% higher than the pressureanticipated, the Design 10A wouldstill deliver 90% of the originaldesign volume.

Chicago’s airfoil is not only the mostenergy efficient wheel type, it pro-vides the quietest operation. Fansare rated for temperatures to 800°when used with a shaft cooler andshaft seal. All of Chicago’s D/10Afans exceed AMCA performancestandards.

IINLETVOLUMECONTROLWhen the fan is used for varying or partial load applications, theInlet Volume Control (IVC) providesprecise air control and more effi-cient operation. Adjustable guidevanes pre-spin the incoming air inthe same rotation as the wheel toproduce the desired volume of airat the exact pressure.

Vanes are mounted entirely withinthe inlet cone. Automatic control isachieved by adding an electric orpneumatic actuator. The IVC is suit-able for manual operation to 650°Fand automatic operation to 350°F.

OUTLET DAMPERSDampers offer an economicalalternative to IVCs. However, theyrequire substantially more horse-power at reduced air volume.Dampers for all fan classes havedouble thickness airfoil blades, and are available with parallel oropposed blade rotating louvres.

Dampers have punched flangeson both ends and are suitable formanual or automatic operation. Amatching punched flanged outletis required for mounting. Alternateconstruction is available for dirtyor high temperature applications.

PUNCHED FLANGEDINLET/OUTLETFormed ring inlet is punched forinlet duct connection. Heavyangle flange can be welded to the outlet, either punched or unpunched.

SHAFT AND BEARING GUARDThe expanded metal guard encloses the shaft and bearings. For easier lubrication, extendedgrease fittings are recommended.

4

SHAFT COOLER AND GUARDCast aluminum cooling wheel withexpanded metal guard raises theallowable temperature limit forarrangement 1 or 9 fans from 300°Fto 650°F. Adding a shaft seal on ar-rangement 1 fans extends the limitto 800°F. Refer to page 6 for hightemperature/RPM deration factors.

SHAFT SEALA non-contact seal mountedbetween steel plates reduces leak-age through the shaft opening inthe housing.

INLET BOXThe bolt-on inlet box simplifies ductwork connection when astraight horizontal connection isnot feasible. Assures dependablefan performance when a sharp turn is requiredat the fan inlet.
