Lorraine, the Diner manager is keen to support the club and to this end it would be great if the club members could make a point of patronising her establishment whenthey are in the area as the more custom they have the greater chance they have of making a go of it now they have lost the footfall generated directly from the flying operations. Many members of the SVMC have reason to be grateful to Glenn and Tom, as they have had their licences revalidated, had flying tuition or at the very least benefitted on club nights from the generous provision of a venue at no cost to the club. The SVMC would like to thank Glenn and Tom and the other directors for all their support over the last three years and wish them well in any future endeavours. We would also like to wish Glenn a positive outcome from the illness which caused him to be hospitalised recently. We wish him a speedy recovery. The Flying Shack Diner

It is very sad that Glenn, Tom and the other directors of the Flying Shack are in this situation.

Lorraine, the Diner manager is keen to support the club and to this end it would be great if the club members could make a point of patronising her establishment whenthey are in the area as the more custom they have the greater chance they have of making a go of it now they have lost the footfall generated directly from the flying operations.

Many members of the SVMC have reason to be grateful to Glenn and Tom, as they have had their licences revalidated, had flying tuition or at the very least benefittedon club nights from the generous provision of a venue at no cost to the club.

The SVMC would like to thank Glenn and Tom and the other directors for all their support over the last three years and wish them well in any future endeavours.

We would also like to wish Glenn a positive outcome from the illness which caused him to be hospitalised recently. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Located on the north east coast of Scotland, between Inverness and Aberdeen is the district of

Moray. It has a fertile and varied landscape, bordered to the south by the Cairngorm mountains

and to the north by the Moray Firth. I was fortunate to have spent a part of my service career at

RAF Kinloss, which provided the maritime reconnaissance and search and rescue, as well as an

anti submarine warfare capability using the Nimrod MR2 aircraft.

Regrettably, RAF Kinloss has now closed as an RAF unit and is occupied by an Engineering

regiment of the army, visited occasionally by Apache and Chinook helicopters.

I recently spent a couple of weeks in Moray, visiting my son, his wife and my grandchildren, who

now live in Lossiemouth. An attraction I always look forward to visiting while I am up there is the

Moravian Aircraft Museum which is located in the old primary school at RAF Kinloss. Started up by

a small group of ex service volunteers only a few years ago, their aim is to preserve and steadily

improve the military aviation heritage of the north east of Scotland.

A busy space! Interesting to read the cockpit checklist, which all had to be committed to memory.

Outside now, who can guess which aircraft this rear crew compartment belongs to?

The front office, guessed it yet ?

That’s it for this month, answers to the cockpit conundrum to Pete the Editor. More of the same next

month with a varied selection of exhibits, from Helicopters to Antonov and Nimrod to Jaguar.

SVMC Fly-in Roundup 2019

Just a quick resume of the Fly-ins we managed this year. As always, the weather played its part again in reducing the number of events, but the quality was still there !! Unfortunate events at a couple of strips we normally use also affected the number of venues this year. Also, we tend to be victims of our own success, the BBQ fly-ins are regularly attended by over 50 folks which also limits the hosts available to provide the fare we look forward to. Unfortunately this will be my last year as the SVMC Summer Fly-in Co-Ordinator and I wish my replacement, who has yet to volunteer, success in this very important Club role, could it be you ?

Gloucester Airport 15th May

We were hosted by Glenn and his team at the Flying Shack which was well attended by members flying and driving in.

Croft Farm, Defford 22nd May

One of our usual Picnic Venues hosted by Clive and Mike Porter with landing fees donated to Clive’s MAF charity.

Ebrington Breakfast Fly-in 29 June

This was launched last year with great success and repeated this year. Members were invited to fly in to William Stanley’s strip - Ebrington International near Chipping Campden to enjoy the delights of Pete Drinkwater’s all day breakfast at Vegetable Matters just across the road from the strip. 5 Aircraft flew in and a total 9 members attended and all donated to the Midlands Air Ambulance ( the Red one based at Stensham ) in lieu of a landing fee.

Bowldown Farm 3rd July

Once again the Club was invited to Greville Vernon’s excellent strip near Tetbury for a Picnic which was well attended and £70 collected for the Great Western Air Ambulance ( Green one )

Over Farm, 9th July

Due to the weather forecast, "Over Feast" was brought forward to a Tuesday but didn't deter members from flying and driving in to one of the premium events in our Calendar. Its no surprise that Monica and her helpers truly deserve the title of "Hostess with the Mostess" !!!with £405.31 being collected

Redlands 24 July

We were aware that Redlands Airfield near Swindon was shortly to become yet another victim of housing development, so a hasty Fly-in was arranged about a week before it was due to close. Once again, Les and Anne did a fantastic job of providing food for the 30 odd flyers and an equal number of Redlands Flying Club members. A generous £315.66 was collected for charity.

Broadmeadow, 21Aug

A completely new venue for the SVMC Summer Evening Fly-ins just SW of Hereford, but a familiar destination for a lot of our members. Several of Broadmeadow Flyers are also members of the SVMC which led to this cross fertilization of Clubs! Spencer Harvey and Paddy O'Rourke hosted the event which was nearly cancelled due the windy conditions forecast. Well done everyone who made the effort in the difficult conditions. The event has had the effect of re-kindling Broadmeadow Flyers desire to hold BBQ's so watch this space for next season!

Well, I started off writing this thinking we didn't do much this year but a total of 8 Fly-ins and £893.94 raised for charity wasn't a bad effort, well done everyone !

Kind Regards,

Brian ( Bumble ) Finch

Half share in a Rans S6 912 available with Rees Keene hangared at Over Farm.

Aircraft has circa 750 hours and is 12 years old, built by Keith Vinning and previously co-owned by Bumble at Long Marston before Andy V took it on and brought it to Over.

Lots of work has been carried out by Andy in the last 18 months to bring it up to scratch. Rees is continuing with a few tweaks currently to the dash.

The half share is £7,500 - Ongoing costs to be discussed. Call Rees on 07824704272 or email: [email protected]
