Canberra is a designed capital, so it’s fitting that the new Canberra International Airport exemplifies outstanding design. The airport’s bold and modern character reminds us that air travel carries us to exciting places, for fun and adventure, and to broaden the mind. When visitors land in Canberra, they’ll know they’ve arrived somewhere significant.

The commitment to quality is evident in every aspect of the airport’s award-winning design. The building incorporates environmental sustainability, stunning sculptures, elegant architecture and clever use of natural light to create an inspiring entry and departure point for Canberra, while keeping the visitor experience at its core.

The new Canberra International Airport was a visionary project, superbly executed by an expert team with a view to expanding Canberra’s role as an international and regional transport hub. The Canberra Convention Bureau, its members and stakeholders, strongly support the new Canberra International Airport, the ideal gateway to our wonderful city.

KATY GALLAGHER MLA

Chief Minister

The evolution of Canberra Airport parallels the enormous economic and cultural growth which has transformed the national capital in recent years. Its importance as a gateway to our region, a hub for commerce and a connection to the world mean that its role in a growing and globalising city will continue to expand. Congratulations to all involved in this exceptional project.

JEREMY HANSON CSC MLA

Leader of the Opposition

From a large country town, Canberra has transformed into a dynamic and innovative city and the development of the Canberra Airport has been an integral part of that journey. The new terminal is a world class welcoming point for many of our visitors, particularly our international visitors. I congratulate Terry Snow and Stephen Byron on their vision and I know the Canberra Airport will continue to be a driving force for economic growth and for the general good of the city. Congratulations to the Airport Group.

As ACT Minister for Tourism and Events, I congratulate the Canberra Airport team for their unwavering drive, commitment and passion to deliver this outstanding piece of aviation infrastructure for the nation’s capital. The Canberra Airport did not receive the prestigious title of Australia’s Capital City Airport of the Year by good fortune. It is an accolade that was richly deserved and one which further highlights a host of very exciting opportunities — none more so than facilitating direct air access to and from the Canberra region on a global scale. I very much look forward to being a part of ongoing collaborative efforts to make this goal a reality.

ANDREW BARR MLA

Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Tourism and Events

Canberra is the National Capital of Australia and beloved home of all Canberrans. How we feel about our city as Australian citizens and local residents is profoundly and positively affected by the design of the landscape and built environment. Congratulations to Steve and Terry. The project has been complex and not without some controversy with opinions running hot along the way, so you deserve recognition for maintaining your strong vision which has added so much to the Canberra experience.

ANDREW LEIGH

Federal Member for Fraser

An airport tells you a lot about a city. Is it a shed on the tarmac, or does it soar magnificently? Is it spotless or filthy? Confusing or clearly laid out? What I love about our airport is that it captures much of what is great about Canberra: beautiful design, connection to the natural environment, and easy to get around — whether you’re travelling business or toting toddlers. Congratulations to the Canberra Airport team on all you’ve achieved so far, and all you’ll do in the future.

The beauty of the new Canberra International Airport terminal is that it echoes the pristineness of the country you descend over whilst approaching it, as well as the softness of the silhouettes of Mt. Ainslie and Mt. Majura which so often capture your gaze whilst waiting to embark. At last we have the airport terminal the nation’s capital deserves, flooded with the same strong southern light that has always bewitched our best artists and architects.

Ensuring those visiting the capital region step off their flights into an airport on par with the best this country has to offer, is an important way of welcoming them to our city and encouraging them to stay longer. ROWLAND FISCHER

General Manager, Diplomat Hotel

My first memory of the Canberra Airport was about 30 years ago when I escorted my mother to pick up my father after a long business trip. 20 years later, at the same albeit differently branded terminal, I bid my family farewell as I chased my dreams of experiencing a year abroad. Your airport has featured in some of the most momentous and emotional times in mine and countless other lives. Thank you for creating a precinct which is just as memorable as the arrivals and departures occurring within it.
