To celebrate the end of the first term AIS’s pupils in

Skolkovo prepared their first concert. All groups from Pre-Nursery to Year 5 took part in the organization and everyone showed their talents on our new stage. Nursery performed a touching chicken dance, and pre-nursery group created a real circus on our stage, with clowns and magic tricks. Year 2 pleased the audience dancing with umbrellas, and the Recep-tion group continued the “ani-mals” theme and showed us a

wonderful bunnies’ dance. Year 1, in turn, have shown that they are ready for the unpredictable autumn weather and performed a dance in rubber boots. We celebrated the autumn season and all the autumn festivals jointly: Harvest Day, The First Cold, and also we did not forget Halloween. We were reminded of this holiday by some of the children’s costumes. At the end of the concert, we enjoyed a co-lourful folk dance, performed by Year 3 and Year 5. ■

«атлантик» Сколково подго-товили свой первый концерт. Все группы от Pre-nursery до Year 5 приняли участие в подготовке, каждый смог проявить себя на нашей но-вой сцене. Воспитанники группы Nursery исполнили трогательный танец цыплят, а группа pre-nursery показа-ла настоящий цирк на нашей сцене, с клоунами и фокуса-ми. Year 2 порадовали зри-телей танцем с зонтиками, а Группа Reception продолжи-

ли тему «животные» и пока-зали нам чудесный танец зай-чиков. Year 1, в свою очередь показали, что они готовы к осенней непогоде и испол-нили зрителям танец в рези-новых сапожках. Мы празд-новали осень и все осенние праздники вместе: день сбо-ра урожая, первые холода, а также не забыли Хэллоуин. Об этом празднике нам на-помнили костюмы некоторых ребят. В завершении концер-та мы увидели красочный на-родный танец, в исполнении классов Year 3 и Year 5. ■

year students eagerly anticipate this day, as it is a time for them to show their appreciation to-ward their hard working teach-ers. Teaching has long been recognized as a challenging, humble and vital component of a healthy and functioning soci-ety. In addition, it has long been regarded not only as a job, but also as a compassionate con-tribution to society. In return teachers are entrusted with the honourable position of teaching the most treasured members of the community, children and young adults.

Teachers’ Day is a day to celebrate the daily ongoing re-lationships and endeavours of both teachers and students. In 2011, students from both the primary and secondary year levels performed beautiful songs and dances and played musical instruments for their deserving teachers. Teachers watched their students’ perfor-mances in delight and appreci-ated their hard and dedicated effort to make such a grand gesture. The entertainment

В нашем учебном за-ведении ученики организова-ли праздничный концерт для учителей. В концерте уча-ствовали начальная и средняя школа. Ученики подарили учителям динамичные тан-цы и теплые поздравления, сыграли на музыкальных ин-струментах и спели красивые песни. ■

Вот и прошло 3 недельки нашего адаптационного периода. За это

время наши дети очень сдружились и привыкли к нашему распорядку дня, и стали принимать активное участие на уроках. В нашем Детском Садике есть несколько систем поощрения. Каждую пятницу мы вручаем сер-тификат «Звезда недели» (лучшему ученику недели). Вот наши первые звездочки.

Y ear 2 has been working hard to learn their action

verbs and at this week’s as-sembly they taught the whole kindergarten all about what some of their favourite action verbs looked like. The students of Year 2 lined up and, when prompted, began to demon-strate what their different ac-tion verbs do. We had children pantomiming dancing, flying, falling and crashing, chasing and digging, all while the rest of the Kindergarten looked on rapt. All in all, it was a great success with Year Two sharing their new knowledge with the rest of the children. ■

To help promote a positive classroom climate, we have students take turns

being our Star of the Week. Throughout the week, the Star is given opportunities to share aspects of his, or her, life with the class. Each day includes an exciting event or activity to honour him or her. This is a way for members of our class to learn more about each other, while valuing in-dividual differences and experiencing mu-tual support and synergy.

Воспитанники подгото-вительной группы на

уроках английского языка изучали глаголы и на одной из школьных ассамблей в за-нимательной форме показали и рассказали всему детскому саду о своих любимых глаго-лах действия. Группа выстро-илась на сцене в ряд и дети по порядку показывали, а затем и озвучивали выполняемое ими действие в предложе-нии. Они демонстрировали такие глаголы, как танцевать и летать, падать и сталки-ваться, догонять и копать. В целом, выступление прошло успешно и продуктивно, так как всем было очень занятно и интересно: тем кто был на сцене, и тем, кто их внима-тельно слушал. ■

Autumn time captivates us with a bright palette of

magical colours. The children of the Atlantic kindergarten at Dubrovka proudly met fall. We demonstrated this with our magnificent displays devoted to this wonderful time of year.■

Primary students have been learning a couple of

different ballroom dances this term. They started with a fun Foxtrot in Years 3 and 4, and a sassy Samba in Years 5 and 6.

They had a lot of fun show-ing off their moves to the teachers on Teachers’ Day last month.

Over the next term they will

be learning the ‘East Coast Swing’ and the ‘Cha-Cha’. The ‘Cha-Cha’ came from the dance ‘mamba’ in the early 1950’s. It was a mix of Cuban dance and Jazzy American music. The two blended into one dance. When the ‘Mambo’ songs would get too slow they would shuffle their feet in a syncopated beat which made a ‘cha-cha’ sound with the ladies’ shoes. This is where the start of ‘Cha-Cha’ began.■

The Reception class went to Pony Farm. It was a

beautiful warm day and ev-erybody was excited about the trip. The students learned all about horses as they moved from station to station through the stables. Seeing the animals up close was a memorable ex-perience for the teachers, but especially for the children. Some of the various activities they did were; learning how to feed the ponies, grooming them by brushing their mane and tail and getting a chance to ride a

horse. Afterwards, we took a nature walk around the fields. Kindergarten children truly en-joyed their field trip to the farm. many thanks to all the wonder-ful people at Pony Farm for a fun and educational day!. ■

был солнечный, теплый, и все очень радовались поездке. на ферме ребята нашего класса по ходу того, как двигались от загона к загону постепен-но узнавая все о маленьких лошадях. Увидеть животных так близко было незабывае-мым не только для детей, но и даже для их учителей. на

ферме нас ждали: для нас было организованно много развлечений. нас учили, кор-мить лошадок, расчесывать им гриву и хвост, рассказали о том, что они любят. У нас даже был шанс покататься верхом на пони. Расставшись с лошадками, мы гуляли по полям и любовались осенней природой. Поездка нам очень понравилась и мы очень бла-годарны тем, кто познакомил нас с лошадками, за веселый и увлекательный день! ■

In October, the children from the kindergarten in Du-

brovka began to attend swim-ming lessons at the fitness club “Enjoy”. Swimming is an ex-cellent way to prevent illness and strengthen a child’s body. The instructors help the chil-dren get to used to the water,

to learn how to breathe properly and

also freely float in

t h e wa-ter

(the first skills which are necessary for swimming). Children take not only useful skills from these lessons, but also a lot of fun as the classes are held in the form of games which are very important to our students. We use many dif-ferent tools for swimming in our lessons: swim fins, boards, floating dumbbells, swimming vests, and foam noodles. After the pool, the children go to the sauna. This is a positive way to end the lesson, relaxing and warming the body as a whole. Swimming helps to improve

our appetites and ability to sleep.■

чали посещать занятия в бас-сейне фитнес клуба «Enjoy». Трудно переоценить роль плавания в формировании физического здоровья детей. Это отличная профилактика заболеваний и закаливание детского организма. на за-нятиях в бассейне инструк-торы помогают ребятам при-выкнуть к воде, научиться правильно дышать и дви-гаться, свободно держаться на воде (овладеть первона-чальными навыками плава-ния). Здесь дети получают не только полезные навыки, но и много удовольствия, так как занятия проходят в игро-вой форме, что является не маловажным для наших вос-питанников. Интерес к посе-щению бассейна вызывает и

оборудование, используемое для плавания: ласты, доски, гантели, пояса, гибкие пал-ки. Заключительным этапом посещения фитнес-клуба на-шими детьми является сауна. Она оказывает положитель-ное влияние на детей, так как расслабляет и согревает ор-ганизм в целом. Воспитатели детского сада заметили, что после посещения бассейна у ребят улучшается аппетит и сон становится глубже и спо-койнее. ■

The Pre-nursery and Nurs-ery groups went on their

very first excursion this month. We decided to enjoy the au-tumn weather and go for a walk in moscow’s beautiful Kolo-menskoe Park. This was a great opportunity for the children to observe the world around them, enjoying the nature and historical elements of the park. We saw how all the leaves have changed colour and we watched as they fell from the trees. The children most enjoyed throwing the leaves around and collect-

ing some to take home. We also walked around a garden that had some medicinal plants; the children really enjoyed seeing some of these less-traditional plants, particularly the cauli-flower. Along the way, we saw some pigeons, and our children we very eager to feed them. The pigeons weren’t shy and they came right up to us. Last-ly, the children brought some chalk and drew some leaves of their own on the pathways. We had a great time learning about autumn and experiencing this season first-hand!■

The budding young scien-tists of AIS meet once a

week for our lively new sci-ence club. Earlier this month, we had great fun investigating reactions with the ‘Erupting Volcano’ experiment. Teams worked together to try and produce the best ‘eruption’ by changing the proportions of reactants and observing the

outcome, with some exciting results!

Jacob in Year 3 says, “I re-ally enjoyed making volcanoes. Our third one was the best, it was super excellent!” Our win-ners, Haziq (Year 7) and Jacopo (Year 6) agreed, describing the explosions as “a joy” and “very fun!”

Since the club began, the

children have investigated changes in state by making and manipulating slime and they also took part in the ‘Spa-ghetti and marshmallow Tower Challenge’, a tricky and sticky team building task to create the tallest and sturdiest tower. Alyona and Elif (Year 5) write that “Science club is very cool because we do fun and messy things, so we love it!” Sci-ence club is of course not only about getting messy and having fun; it’s also about learning to work together to investigate the world around you (...whilst having lots of fun!!). ■

Поездка в колоМенскоеи собирать их в букеты. на территории сада, мы увидели необычные растения и долго рассматривали, запоминая их. Особый интерес у ребят вызвала цветная капуста. За-тем мы увидели голубей, и наши дети покормили их. Голуби не боялись их детей и подлетали прямо к их ру-кам. В завершении прогулки дети рисовали мелками на асфальте, изображая осенние листья. Всем очень понрави-лась эта экскурсия. Мы не только совершили осеннее путешествие, но и приобрели небольшой жизненный опыт. ■

Autumn is the most mys-terious season, marked

by its special beauty.

Poets, artists and musicians of numerous generations have been inspired by dedicating their work to, autumn.

In art lessons we were influ-encely and motivated by, the artists’ impressions of autumn. Year 1 and Year 2 children got acquainted with the landscape, “Golden Autumn” by Levitan.

What a rich harvest of fruits, berries and vegetables has been depicted in the children’s draw-ings. Year 2 created a magnifi-cent work of paper modeling technique and brushed up on their knowledge of still life.

During “Family Week” we talked about tenderness and taking care of loved ones, this experience is reflected in the children’s drawings. The older preschoolers acquainted them-selves with the ‘portrait’ genre.

Also, Reception pupils learned to depict the movement of the human body.

New and exciting discover-ies are in store for our students in art lessons! ■

а какой богатый урожай фруктов, ягод и овощей был изображен в детских рисун-ках. Ученики Year two соз-дали великолепные работы в технике бумагопластики и закрепили знания о натюр-морте.

на неделе семьи мы вспо-минали о теплоте, заботе близких людей, эти впечат-ления отразились в детских рисунках, старшие дошколь-ники познакомились с жан-ром – портрет.

pate in drama classes. Many parents are interested in what kind of activities the children do in these classes.

Let’s reveal the secret! =)

Drama classes are conduct-ed by myself, a school psy-chologist, Irina Alexandrovna Solovyeva. The purpose of the lessons are to make children

more independent in making decisions, to teach them how to react to different situations in life, to feel the world and the people around them and to learn to understand and accept the individuality of others. In my lessons we incorporate, sing-ing, listening skills, relaxation,

creativity and general play. Ac-cording to my observations, the children enjoy expressing their thoughts and fantasies, and there by they demonstrate the development of a harmonious personality; which is the key to success in my work. ■

It is possible to make ac-tivities both educational and

pleasant; for instance playing with your favourite toy a can assist healthly physical devel-opment. Children from Recep-tion brought their favourite toys to their yoga lesson and performed low-back stretch exercises and exercises which aid the development of emo-tional balance. Performing

these exercises doesn’t require top physical condition, so you can do such an activities with your child at home. For this, ask your child to choose one of his, or her, favourite toys and then show you some exercises he/she learned. You can also take a toy and do it together with your child. We are confi-dent that after these exercises you’ll feel good and be full of energy. ■

Hi, I’m Hayley. I am cur-rently working as the

International English Nursery Teacher alongside maria and Julia. I am originally from the Lake District in the UK. Pre-viously, I have worked as a supply teacher for Cumbria and as a Reception Teacher in Birmingham. I trained at St. Martin’s College Lancaster for a degree in Early Childhood Education and Primary Teach-ing, giving me the opportunity to teach from birth-11years old. I have varied interests, espe-cially in the arts, as I was being awarded an art scholarship at

university which allowed me to follow my passion for the the-atre, concerts, playing instru-ments, arts and creative crafts. These interests allowed me to travel to Poland to teach in an Arts specialist school, which in turn inspired me to travel to find out about different cultures and appreciate the history of a country. As Moscow is rich is cultural history this is what attracted me to the position at AIS.

maria is a Nursery Teacher too. She graduated from MPSU (Moscow Pedagogical State University) as an English pri-

mary school teacher. She likes working with children and she is fond of German literature, foreign languages, organ mu-sic, cats and history.

Julia is a nanny in the nurs-ery, but she also has higher edu-cation and she is continuing her studies now at MPSU of Evse-nyev. Her specialty is in Early Years.

The nursery children have begun to settle into school life well and are starting to un-derstand the way in which the nursery curriculum works. Dur-ing the last term we have had the pleasure of looking at sev-

eral different topics including; myself, Colours, and currently “The Jungle”. Within these topics we have been able to ac-cess different subjects within the curriculum including Eng-lish (CLL), Numeracy (PSRN), PSHE(PSED), and Art (CD). Alongside these topics the chil-dren have enjoyed participating in specialist activities including preparation for the school con-cert dance and song, as well as physical education and art.

As a team we would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents of our class for their continued support in their child’s learning! ■

Привет! Я мисс Хейли и в настоящее время я

работаю учителем в группе Nursery вместе с Марией и Юлией. Я родилась и вырос-ла в Озёрном краю в Велико-британии. До этого я рабо-тала замещающим педагог в Камбрии и учителем группы Reception в Бирмингеме. Я обучалась в Колледже Свя-того Мартина в Ланкастере и получила степень по обуче-нию детей раннего возраста и преподаванию с младшей школе. Это даёт мне возмож-ность работать с детьми от рождения до 11 лет. У меня много интересов, особенно в искусстве. В университете я была удостоена стипендии по искусству, что позволило мне последовать за своей стра-стью к театрам, концертам, игре на музыкальных инстру-

м е н -тах, изобразительному и прикладному искусству. Эти увлечения дали мне возмож-ность поехать в Польшу и преподавать в специальной школе искусств, что в свою очередь вдохновило меня на путешествия, изучение раз-ных культур и научило меня ценить историческое про-шлое разных стран. Тот факт,

что Москва богата своей культурной историей можно считать почти решающим для меня в том, чтобы при-нять предложение о работе в школе «атлантик».

Мария тоже работает учи-телем в группе Nursery. Она закончила Московский Пе-дагогический Государствен-ный Университет. Мария лю-бит работать с детьми и она очень любит немецкую лите-ратуру, иностранные языки, органную музыку, историю и кошек.

Юлия – няня в группе

Nursery, но у неё тоже есть высшее образование. Кроме того, она продолжает обу-чаться в настоящий момент в МГПИ им. Евсевьева по спе-циальности дошкольное вос-питание.

Дети в Nursery уже при-выкли к школьной жизни и начинают больше включать-ся в занятия, осваивать про-грамму обучения. С начала года, мы имели увлекатель-ную возможность изучить несколько тем, таких как «Я», «Цвета», «Джунгли». Эти темы обогатили англий-ский словарный запас ребят и позволили получить улуч-шить знания по математике (PSRN), PSHE(PSED), рисо-ванию и музыке (Art). Всё это время наши воспитанники с удовольствием занимались физкультурой и танцами, а также приняли участие в подготовке к школьному кон-церту, они выучили танец и песню. ■

Все вместе, мы хотим воспользоваться предста-вившейся возможностью и поблагодарить родителей на-шего класса за постоянную поддержку, которая чрезвы-чайно важна для успешного обучения детей. ■

This month, we organized several lively and memo-

rable assemblies. October was rich in festivals and special days.

Our first Assembly was devoted to “World Teachers’ Day” held annually on October 5th since 1994, to commemorate teachers’ organizations world-wide. World Teachers’ Day represents a significant token of the awareness, understand-ing and appreciation displayed for the vital contribution that teachers make to education and development. Today over 100 countries observe World Teach-ers’ Day.

The assembly was orga-nized and held by our Re-ception students. They con-gratulated all the teachers and presented them with colourful greeting cards and poems.

In our second assembly we paid tribute to “World Smile Day”. It is celebrated every year on the first Friday in Oc-tober. As is well known by now throughout the world; Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts, cre-ated the smiley face in 1963. That image went on to become the most recognizable symbol of good will and good cheer on the planet.

On this particular Friday we also wore happy faces on

our clothes. In the morning we met and greeted each other and communicated with a smile. Our Nursery group was trying to cheer everybody up with soap-bubbles, Reception put on their bright head-dresses and Year 1 performed a joyous song.

Year 3 and Year 5 organized and performed “The Columbus Day” assembly. Along with all the other participants of the festival they travelled by boat and sang songs. Our students showed themselves to be both talented and creative. Although Columbus Day is celebrated in the United States on the second Monday of October, the spirit of the celebration remained in the school for the whole week, thanks to the creative works and original costumes of our children. ■

В этом месяце мы про-вели несколько ярких и

запоминающихся ассамблей. Октябрь оказался богатым месяцем на праздники и осо-бые дни.

наша первая ассамблея была посвящена Всемирно-му Дню Учителя, который с 1994 года празднуется по всему миру пятого октября. Всемирный День Учителя яв-ляется особым знаком выра-жения понимания и призна-ния того жизненно важного вклада, который делают учи-теля в воспитание, обучение и развитие детей. День учи-телей входит в систему все-мирных и международных дней ООн и более 100 стран отмечают День учителей по всему миру.

наш праздник подготови-ли и провели воспитанники группы Reception. Они теп-ло поздравили всех учителей

красочными открытками и стихами.

В нашу вторую ассамблею мы праздновали Всемирный день улыбки. Этот праздник отмечают ежегодно в первую пятницу октября. начало это-му чудесному празднику по-ложил художник Харви Бэлл, промышленный художник из города Вустер в штате Мас-сачусетс. Он первым улы-бающееся лицо (смайлик) в 1963 году.

В эту пятницу мы тоже носили улыбающиеся лица на одежде и не только. С са-мого утра мы встречались, здоровались и общались с улыбкой. наша группа Nursery старалась развесе-лить всех мыльными пузыря-ми, Reception своими яркими головными уборами, a Year 1 исполнили радостную песню на ассамблее.

Year 3 и Year 5 подгото-вили всем праздник «День Колумба». Вместе со всеми обитателями школы они пу-тешествовали на корабле и пели песни. наши школьни-ки оказались очень талантли-выми и творческими. И хотя в Соединённых Штатах день Колумба отмечают во второй понедельник октября, дух праздника оставался в шко-ле целую неделю, благодаря творческим работам и ориги-нальным костюмам ребят. ■
