How We Got Here–Increasing demand for our students, but trend not always reflected in enrollment
– [Akbulut-Bailey, 2012; Becker et al., 2006; Granger et al., 2007; Granger et al., 2007]
–Cirricular-focused research: the courses to be included, the topics and content to be taught, and specific teaching techniques and examples to be employed in the classroom
–[Firth et al., 2008; Looney and Akbulut, 2007; Topi et al., 2010; Fichman et al. 2014]
–Our Approach: describe how our university’s IS curriculum benefits from the forging of connections between the IS curriculum and: the broader management curriculum, faculty research and teaching interest, and student extracurricular activities
– Intro Core Coures– Extracurricular Programs in
Entrepreneurship– Field Learning Opportunities

Freshman Core Course– First course in management,
taught through the lens of technology
– Framing question:– “How can I possibly compete
when everyone can copy my technology & the competition is a click away?”
– Accessible, Practice-focused Content– strategic & cross-disciplinary
focus– case-chapters– framework/concepts chapters– exam & group project
![Page 11: AIS SIG Ed Talk - Making Connections for IS Students - Dublin 2016](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022051709/5876379c1a28ab68098b6281/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Flexibility Over Rigidity– Room for faculty
expertise– Topic Teaching Across
Sections:– minimizes preps– intense teaching period
followed by more "focus" time for research/admin
– introduces faculty talent / generates added interest
– raises the bar & encourages sharing
![Page 12: AIS SIG Ed Talk - Making Connections for IS Students - Dublin 2016](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022051709/5876379c1a28ab68098b6281/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
