M & M Withdraws From Bidding

By Alan Talbott, President

No, not the candy company, this M&M is Mahindra & Mahindra of India that had expressed interest in purchasing Jaguar. They do not make cars now and they worried Ford would be unable or willing to supply the power trains they would need, hence the withdrawal from bidding. However, the other India company, Tata, is still in the process due to backing from Fiat that is guaranteeing those power trains if they buy. As far as the public knows it’s Tata and several equity firms still bidding. Bids should be in by the end of September and the sale done by year-end. The highest bidder will win, or lose, I guess, depending on your perspective. But, at least with a sale Jaguar has a chance for a turn around.

We had a great time at Ivan & Mryna Ruiz’s

lake house on September 8th. The cabin is a perfect place to party with much space and a fantastic porch with a great view. A big crowd, great location and the usual wonderful food has always made for a great afternoon. The weather cooperated so well that Dick Preston took a small army of folks out on his boat for a tour around Lanier. They were gone so long we nearly sent out the lake patrol to find them. Some were engrossed in football, some in conversation and some on the lake. Don’t get no better than that! Thanks Ivan & Mryna for such an enjoyable afternoon.

Please don’t forget the Concours coming up

on Oct 14th. The Pre-Concours party on the 13th at the Harts will get you primed for the next day’s show. It’s always fun. A great deal of special effort has been expended by Nalley to open on Sunday for the Concours, so please help us make this a special event for them as well. Wash your car and bring it. We would love to see what you drive with every additional car only enhancing the event. AJS souvenirs will be available for purchase and two raffle tickets will available free to all entrants for some great prizes. Dick Thyer and J.P. Summers have designed another unique trophy so, if you win, you will have something no one else in the country has. A catered lunch is available for those that want to eat on the premises. Bring that Cat!

After the Concours the fun doesn’t stop

there. In early November Kim Daly has an event planned that will be as unique as our trophies. There is a museum, close to Atlanta, that has a distinctly western tone. Her article will give you the details but suffice it to say this place looks well thought out and extremely interesting. For those with a hankering for the “Old West”, this ones for you.

Don’t for get the monthly meeting, at

Chicago’s in Sandy Springs, on October 29th. Please RSVP to Beverlee Leo at 770-949-6756 or [email protected].

Pre-Concours Party

Event: Pre-Concours d’Elegance Party When: Saturday Evening October 13th

Time: 7:00PM to 9:00PM Where: Don and Marlene Harts 1120 Heards Ferry Road Atlanta, GA 30328 770-956-7165 R.S.V.P. By October 11th Bring: Appetizer, Covered Dish or Dessert

As has been our custom for the past thirty years we have a pre-Concours dinner the night before our show of cars on Sunday. This year the Harts will open their lovely home to AJS for this party and I’ll review it now before the event even happens. It was loads of fun with a big crowd in attendance. The food was spectacular as usual and the conversation was intelligent and mostly lucid. Seriously this is a truly wonderful event and I run out of platitudes in trying to describe it. These gatherings are what we are about. If you are new and haven’t made many events make this one it’s a guaranteed great time. You don’t get many of those in life!

Euro Auto Festival

The 12th annual Euro Auto Festival will be held this year on October 19 - 21 at the BMW factory located in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The event is open to all European cars and there is always a very good representation of Jaguars.

We normally drive to Spartanburg on Friday

morning and take back roads. There is an evening reception at the Spartanburg Marriott at Renaissance Park. Saturday is the car show at the BMW factory grounds. If you like European cars you will not be disappointed with what you will see! That evening is the awards banquet at the Marriott. Sunday morning we drive back to Atlanta.

The Spartanburg Marriott is a great hotel and offers very reasonable rates. The event organizers do a great job making this event one of my favorites.

Details and registration information can be

found on this website: http://www.euroautofestival.com

To make hotel reservations, please contact:

Spartanburg Marriott at Renaissance Park 1-800-228-9290 1-864-596-1211

Mention "EURO 2007" when making your

reservation If you are interested in driving the back roads

on Friday, please contact Ivan Ruiz at 770-998-0923.

Note From the Editor Lew George

The Concours information in the last newsletter had a glitch that wasn’t apparent until the newsletter was printed. It seems that the version of Acrobat that the printer has does not incorporate the type-overs created in my version of Acrobat….lesson learned. You will find corrected forms and information in this newsletter. Sorry for the mix-up.

Prior to the publication of this newsletter, I will have left on a 5,000 mile, three-week driving tour in a 1947 Bentley to the Midwest, to include the 2007 Hot Air Balloon Festival in Albuquerque!

Booth Western Art Museum In order to know who we need to lasso up on

November 3rd, please RSVP for this event to Cowgirl Kim at H: 770-410-5717 or C: 770-633-4960.

Saturday, November 3rd

Howdy Pard’ners, this is Cowgirl Kim

inviting you to join me and the Atlanta Jaguar Society on a stampede up to Cartersville where you will be able to “Explore The West Without Leaving The South”.

Happy Trails until we meet, Cowgirl Kim Daly

Cartersville is the home of the Booth

Western Art Museum, housing six galleries including The American West Gallery, The Civil War-War is Hell Gallery and The President’s Gallery. The museum opened in August of 2003, and is an unexpected 80,000 square foot treasure.

We will begin the stampede by corralling the

Jaguars in the parking lot of Chicago’s (the restaurant where we hold our monthly meetings) on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs at 9:30 AM on November 3rd. We’ll have Alan Talbott riding point to get us all up to the museum in Cartersville by about 10:15 AM. We will plan on purchasing our own tickets at the door ($6.00 for seniors 65 and over and $8.00 for adults), entering the museum at 10:30. Our visit will begin by viewing “The American West”, a twenty-minute film. We will then visit the galleries at our own pace. We will get some grub around 12:30 at the chuck wagon (café) where you may purchase a light lunch of sandwiches, salad, soup or chili as well as desserts, coffee and tea. You may sit a spell and visit with fellow AJS members or you may hurry on back to visit more of the museum. We plan on heading back to Atlanta no later than mid-afternoon.

Lew redeems his coupon from John Clark at Nalley Jaguar.

Yes, I did redeem my coupon I won in the drawing at last years Concours d’Elegance. I drove a 2007 Jaguar XK8 convertible for three days. What a car!! In all, of the drought days we have had this year, I think I picked the three rainiest days we have had all year. I’m taking up a collection from the AJS members to buy me this car!!!
