www.worldscoutjamboree.se Aktuellt Edition 3 – January 2010 News Asia-Pacific Regional Conference Over 50 countries attended the Asia-Pacific Conference, half of them from the Asia-Pacific Region, and so did the Jamboree team. After a week full of meetings, promoting the event and talking to different countries and cultures, Marie Reinicke, Chairman for the Jamboree Executive Team, said: ”We are happy and satisfied. We have learned a lot this week.” One of the highlights was meeting the participants of the Youth Forum, who were enthusiastic and curious about the Jamboree. They were happy to share their expectations and excitement with the team about 2011! Africa Regional Conference Following the Asia-Pacific Conference, the team headed for Accra, Ghana to talk about the Jamboree at the Africa Regional Conference. After TV interviews, a Head of Contingents’ meeting and a presenta- tion by Chairman, Marie Reinicke, and Jamboree Executive Director, Göran Hägerdal, there was a great buzz about the Jamboree, making the trip a big success! Asia-Pacific Regional Jamboree The Jamboree team also spent time at the 26 th Asia-Pacific Regional (APR) Jamboree, at Mt Makiling in the Philippines. They were there to promote the World Scout Jamboree and to study and learn from how the APR Jamboree was organised. It was a fantastic camp and they had a great time speaking to many of the 14,000 participants, IST and leaders. They ran an exhibition about the Jamboree in the APR Village, one of the programme modules where contingents from the region could promote their country. In addition to finding out about the Jamboree, many participants also dared to taste some typical Swedish candies, “Djungelvrål” and “Ahlgrens Bilar”, with varying reactions. When in Sweden in 2011, make sure you try them too! Swedish Government Supports International Scouting The Swedish Government has given SEK 15 million to the Swedish Scout Movement for the organisation of the Jamboree. This contri- bution will help to ensure the participants really have the experience of a lifetime! Programme

Wonder what participants will do at the Jamboree? Here we take a peek at what the programme will offer.

Subcamp Life:Scouts will build their home and have an area to hang out, have coffee with friends, hold campfires and do activi-ties on their own subcamp.

Common Areas:The common areas will host vibrant contingent pavilions, World Scouting interactive exhibitions and the Faiths and Beliefs areas.

Camp in Camp:Every Scout will have the unique op-portunity to stay one night at a typical Nordic Scout Camp, getting close to nature and making new friends!

Module Activities:Based on the Scout Method, the mod-ule activities will develop initiative, team spirit and leadership whilst fo-cusing on challenges, personal reflec-tion and much more.

Arena EventsThere will be three opportunities to bring all 30,000 participants to cel-ebrate together: the opening ceremony, a major event in the middle of the Jam-boree and the closing ceremony.

Q&A ‘How can I get involved?’

There are a lot of ways to get

involved in the Jamboree! Here

are some of these ways and you

can find more information on

our website.

Participants:

Come and experience the

uniqueness of a World Jam-

boree! Take part in the diverse

programme and make new

friends every step of the way.

Participants are Scouts aged

between 14 and 17 years old.

Unit Leaders:

Scout Patrols are supported by

Unit Leaders, who live on the

subcamp and help the young

people in all their daily activi-

ties. Unit Leaders need to have

turned 18 at the start of the

camp.

International Service Team:

Thousands of dedicated volun-

teers will be involved in making

sure the Jamboree is a huge

success! IST members must be

able to communicate in English

and/or French and have turned

18 years of age.

Clemens, from Switzerland, is the branding specialist in Client Communications. What does Simply Scouting mean to you? Simply Scouting is responsibility. What is your favourite food? I love almost all Asian Food. But Swedish Meatballs too :) Best way to spend a Sunday? Skateboarding/Snowboarding Best Scouting memory? The Jamboree in the UK – I met so many nice people there.

Meet the Planning Team A lot of work goes into preparing the Jamboree to make sure Scouts will have the expe-rience of a lifetime. Previous Aktuellts introduced you to some of the key members of the Jamboree Executive Team and the Jamboree Office. This edition will introduce you to some of the volunteers from the Communications Department and their favourite IKEA food!
