marketing objectives might be, there is one thing that is vital to their success: building trust. In a world where people demand transparency, the best way to begin building trust with your audience is by humanizing your brand. So, what exactly does this mean?

To humanize your brand is to make your brand relatable, less robotic and more real. This is vital to your company’s success for three main reasons. First, it helps tell your brand’s story. Your audience will get to know you and what your company is all about.

Next, people trust people way before they will trust robotic marketing tactics. We are bombarded with hundreds of ads

Local Small Business Relief Loan Program Extended

Tips and Tricks forHumanizing Your Brand

A local small business loan program spearheaded by Councilmembers Bob Blumenfield, John Lee and Joe Busaino has been expanded to more communities. With the help of The Change Reaction the loan ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 will be available to local businesses with 15 or fewer employees and revenue around $1 million. Repayment terms on the no-interest loans are flexible and all repayments will basically be redistributed to other small businesses, for what Blumenfield calls “a positive chain reaction.” If you are a small business owner and would like to apply for relief funds, you need to submit proof of 12 months of timely paid rent through March 2020, and have submitted an Economic Injury Disaster Loan Application to the U.S. Small Business Administration. To find out more go to https://changereaction.org/small-business-relief-funds and to apply in CD3, go to https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Dw6KKcypcmJlyWKTyF-lCQ5IFIPAp-aviBZDOOOwoD0/viewform?edit_requested=true.

on a daily basis and it is important to make sure that your marketing stands out- in a good way! We have all seen terrible cookie cutter ads that look like they’re boasting a super sketchy product or service and what do we do? We avoid them like the plague.

Lastly, humanizing your brand will help build a long term relationship with your audience which means that your marketing efforts will result in better engagement and a bigger bottom line. To help you achieve this, we have put together some tips that will help to simplify this process.

By Janey M. RifkinWhen he is not performing

orthopedic surgery, Dr. Arthur Kreitenberg tinkers in his

New Idea “Slow “ to Catch On Until COVID-19basement. The good doctor is also an inventor, proud of his latest creation that can kill several kinds of germs - using UV light to disinfect an entire airplane cabin. He points out that UV light can kill several kinds of germs but won’t make flying entirely safe.

This scenario all began with a volleyball. While attending one of his daughter’s college volleyball matches during the H1N1 outbreak of 2009, Dr. Kreitenberg noticed the players didn’t shake hands, thus reducing chances of spreading the virus. But all the players touched the same volleyball. Further inspired by the use of UV light to disinfect operating rooms, Dr. Kreitenberg invented a device dubbed the “Germ Ninja” to quickly disinfect the surgical suite as well as disinfect the volleyballs by passing UV light over them. The inventor and his son, Elliot, formed a partnership and traveled to many aviation trade shows and conferences to pitch the invention. Alas, the idea did not catch on quickly. Then, along came Covid-19 and it changed all that. Medical experts noted that UV light is already used at the Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills and the Beverly Hilton announced plans to use UV light to disinfect their rooms. Honeywell

International, the multinational conglomerate with $37 billion in sales, announced they are teaming up with Kreitenberg to build the UV invention and distribute it.

Honywell began in early June to meet with airlines and demonstrate the UV cabin

system. “The initial reaction has been very positive from airlines,” stated Adam Kress, Honeywell spokesman. “We believe this product has great potential at airlines worldwide.”

It was the coronavirus and the pandemic that reached the U.S. early this year and the 20 or so conventions that the doctor and son attended to spread word of the invention. The father-son team is not done yet. They are now working on a version of the Germ Falcon that can be used in classrooms, offices, buses and train stations, among other locations. There are a lot of questions as yet unknown about this virus. Kreitenberg acknowledges that his invention will only reduce the chances of spreading disease but won’t make flying entirely safe.

great for your gut health. They help to maintain the good

bacteria you need to fight against sickness while helping to clean

your gut of all the toxins it is filled with. Eating yogurt is a

great way to get your probiotics into your diet. However if you are like

me and not a yogurt lover (unless its frozen yogurt obviously) then

a capsule form might be better. Like multi-vitamins

these come in various kinds. I personally love ones that are geared toward women’s health instead of a general one. You may find some are in a refrigerated section and I personally like those better since they have more live cultures in them.

5. Elderberry Syrup— what a magical creation of the world. Elderberry is an amazing anti-oxidant and so incredibly good for you. It really helps boost your immunity and in a time like this we can use all the boosting we can get. All it takes is one teaspoon a day.

All of the above mentioned products can be found at your local grocery store, drugstore or online. I tend to get mine from Whole Foods because I trust that the products are as natural as can be. Some of these can seem pricey at first but for me I am willing to spend the money. You cannot put a price tag on your life, so while it may seem a bit steep in the moment just think of the cost it would be if you were to get sick. I know it seems a bit overwhelming at first because each product has so many options. Do your research, take your time when you go to shop and find one that you like best. It may take a few trips to try different ones out until you find what you like. Just remember that it is your body and you get to decide what you put in it.

supplement form either as a pill or a spray to take on a daily basis.

2. Multi-vitamins — take one every day. This is your basic serving of all pertinent vitamins your body needs in one easy dose. There are multitudes of options out there for you to choose from. There are some geared specifically toward women’s health and men’s health, they come in gummy form or pill form. Take some time to look at different brands and see which one best serves you. This is a great way to ensure your body is getting all the nutrients it is needing in case your diet is not satisfying all that you need.

3. Mushroom Supplements — mushrooms are basically the most magical vegetable ever. They work wonders for your immune system and it is so easy to incorporate into your daily life. You do not have to eat mushrooms to reap their benefits, so do not worry if you are not a fan. They come in spray form (do not worry it does not taste like the veggie does), in capsule form or in powder form that you can add into coffee or shakes. There is even such a thing as mushroom coffee for those trying to kick a caffeine habit. Do yourself a favor and start adding mushrooms into your diet. It is actually so easy to do there is no excuse.

By Allie PrioreLet’s get immune! There is a lot happening in the

world right now and it is taking a toll on us mentally, emotionally and physically. Between social justice movements and a global pandemic, we are bound to feel a bit worn down, mentally drained or down right exhausted. There is so much happening beyond our control but taking care of ourselves both physically and mentally is something we can absolutely take control of.

With many of us starting to go back to work or begin exploring this new normal it is imperative we do all we can to stay safe. I wanted to share some ways you can boost your immune system from home to help you feel energized and to help you stay healthy.

When Covid hit and we began quarantine I felt extremely anxious and scared about it all. I told myself that since I cannot control what is happening in the outside world, I need to focus on what I can control and put into my body. Thus, I began a daily regimen consisting of vitamins and supplements that I take for my own peace of mind. I can control what I put into my body to make it as healthy as possible. Below are my favorite wellness go to’s for a happy and healthy body and mind:

1.Vitamin C — be sure to consume Vitamin C daily. This can be from foods that are rich in the nutrient such as oranges or orange juice. You can also buy it in

REAL ESTATE What’s Building Around TownNew ER at Kaiser

Progress is coming along well with Kaiser Permanente’s new,

state-of-the-art operating rooms and Emergency Department

construction project which is designed to meet the growing

needs of its members and the Valley. Contingent upon approval from the State and

regulatory bodies, the project is expected to be completed first

quarter 2021.

Long-Needed Traffic SignalA much needed left-turn traffic light was

recently installed at the corner of Fallbrook and Vanowen. The busy intersection is bounded on the west by Fallbrook Center, with Trader Joe’s, Sprouts and AMC at that particular end of the mall and has been the scene of many accidents. The West Hills Neighborhood Council had voted to urge the city to install the light. “We’ve known for years that this was an approved project but it had been waiting for funding. We had no idea it was going to be installed any time soon,” said Neighborhood Council President Dan Brin.

Fixing Fire Damage Construction has begun to repair

damage from the fire earlier this year at El Camino Shopping Center. Steve Fazio, whose Fazio Cleaners was destroyed by the fire, said he is working with the landlord, Regency Centers, and has submitted plans for his new cleaners. “We would like to put something reasonable in the space that works for both of us,” Fazio told Valley News Group. “The fire was not caused by our machines or chemicals, and we definitely want to reopen in the space.

We’ve been in this location at El Camino Center since 1973. I grew up in Woodland Hills,

went to El Camino and live in Woodland Hills. I’m invested in the community.”

NOTICE INVITING SEALED PROPOSALS (BIDS)Calleguas-LVMWD Interconnection Project

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Board of Directors of Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (District) invites and will receive sealed proposals (bids) up to the hour of 3:00PM on August 12, 2020, for furnishing the work described in the contract documents. Bids received after the time stated in the Call for Bids will not be accepted and will be returned, unopened, to the bidder. The time shall be determined by the time on the receptionist telephone console in our Headquarters lobby. Proposals will be publicly opened and read aloud at the office of the District, 4232 Las Virgenes Road, Calabasas, California 91302. Said bids shall conform to and be responsive to the Specifications and Contract Documents for said work as heretofore approved by the District.

Precautions are being taken by the District in response to the novel coronavirus and COVID-19 outbreak in order to protect employees, customers, and our partners. Until further notice, the District is suspending in-person meetings relating to bids (including public bid openings, the hand-delivery of bids by company employees, and in-person pre-bid meetings) to reduce the number of people coming into District facilities.

This policy is effective, Monday, April 6, 2020, and remains in force until further notice. All bids must be sent by mail. Bidders must allow enough time for bids to be delivered to the District by the due date. All submittals will be time stamped as soon as they are received. Bids received after the due date and time may be deemed non-responsive and excluded from consideration. The District is now also allowing proposals to be dropped into a mail box outside the front entrance doors to the main building (4232 Las Virgenes Rd.) This mail box is checked every morning, and will also be checked several times throughout the bid due date. All bids are to be received by the deadline, 3:00pm on August 12, 2020. Bids being sent by mail must allow sufficient time for delivery, to District headquarters, by the deadline. It is also recommended to specify “Calleguas-LVMWD Interconnection Project”, somewhere on the envelope to ensure prompt timestamping.

Pre-bid meetings and other meetings associated with the bidding process will be held via telephone conference and/or through web enabled video conference. Details for these meetings will be provided on bid announcements specific to each project.

A mandatory pre-bid meeting will be conducted at 9:00AM on July 22, 2020. The meeting will be conducted via web-enabled conference. Attendance at the pre-bid conference is a condition precedent to submittal of the bid and the District will not consider a bid from any bidder not represented at the pre-bid conference. Questions regarding the project may be directed to Oliver Slosser, P.E., at (818) 585-7123 or [email protected].

Sets of contract documents may be downloaded for free by going to http://www.LVMWD.com/Ebidboard and following the links to this project.

In order to be placed on the plan holder’s list, contractors shall register for free as a document holder for this project on Ebidboard by going to www.LVMWD.com/Ebidboard and following the links to this project. Addendum notifications will be issued through Ebidboard.com but may also be provided by calling the District’s Project Manager. Although Ebidboard will fax and/or email all notifications to registered plan holders after the District uploads the information, Bidders are responsible for obtaining all addenda and updated contract documents.

Each bid must be on the District bid form and shall be sealed and filed with the secretary of the District at or before the time stated in the Notice.

No Contractor or Subcontractor may be listed on a bid proposal for a public works project submitted on or after March 1, 2015 unless registered with the Department of Industrial Relations pursuant to Labor Code section 1725.5. No Contractor or Subcontractor may be awarded a contract for public work on a public works project awarded on or after April 1, 2015 unless registered with the Department of Industrial Relations pursuant to Labor Code section 1725.5. Effective January 1, 2016, no Contractor or Subcontractor may perform on a contract for public work on a public works project unless registered with the Department of Industrial Relations pursuant to Labor Code section 1725.5. This project is subject to compliance monitoring and enforcement by the DIR.

All terms and conditions contained in the Specifications and Contract Documents shall become part of the contract. The Board of Directors of Las Virgenes Municipal Water District reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to waive any and all irregularities in any bid. No bidder may withdraw his bid after the said time for bid openings until 60-days thereafter or until the District has made a final award to the successful bidder or has rejected all bids, whichever event first occurs.

The Board of Directors of the District reserves the right to select the schedule(s) under which the bids are to be compared and contract(s) awarded.

company and stick to it; this will help others get to know you and it will build a personality for your brand. Don’t forget to be relatable to your audience. If you are relatable, others audiences will find you more approachable and likeable.

Let’s take Disney as an example. Think about how you feel when you read or see Disney propaganda. They are excellent at tugging on your heart strings, bringing out feelings of nostalgia, quality family time and of course- they make you crave a Disney experience.

2. Be TransparentNext, transparency is key. Now more than ever, people demand

transparency. Remember, it is all about trust. This will come directly from your values and your mission. Be transparent about the reasons behind why your company is the way it is. This will not only build trust but also likeability with your following. Staying true to your brand and its promise will show through in your marketing tactics.

Patagonia is a perfect example. If they’re known for anything above their high quality clothing, it’s their sustainability and passion for protecting the planet. Campaigns like their Fair Trade initiative empower consumers to learn where their clothing comes from in order to encourage people to only shop Fair Trade Certified brands, which in turn generates support and loyalty for their products.

3. Utilize Social MediaUse social media as a tool to interact with your audience on a personal

level. This allows them to actually have conversations with you and see your interests. Focus on interaction, respond to comments as well as direct messages in as much of a personally connected way as possible. Let your followers see behind the scenes and what makes your company tick.

Ben and Jerry’s is the perfect example. They make it obvious where they stand on many issues from climate change to racial justice, and it’s nearly impossible to see that not come through on their social media. Through this they have built a following that locally supports them and the causes they serve. Lastly, partner with influencers to help grow your following and always remember to be grateful to those who support you. Those who support you want to see you succeed.

4. Share Your TeamBe sure to share your team! Show that your company is relatable

by putting the spotlight on your team, their interests and backgrounds. For example, our team at Cowe shares certain charitable organizations that we support, small businesses we love to lift up, the unique Spotify playlists created by each member and so much more. This will create synergy related to common interests between those who work for you and your following, adding to likeability of your brand.
