Meadow Lake Park Updates

Membership Invitation The Meadow Lake Watershed Association is a nonprofit organization with membership open to all of the approximately 300 homes in the watershed. Our purpose is to preserve and improve the quality and natural beauty of Meadow Lake, its wildlife and the surrounding environment. We provide opportunities for involvement in restoration projects in Meadow Lake Park and in the watershed area. We work with the city and other agencies who share our goals and through publications and meetings provide resources that serve both on and off lake residents. Annual on lake membership dues are $25. Those not on the lake are asked to contribute $10. We hope you will join and support us in our efforts. For your convenience an addressed

Native Plant Maintenance Over the last couple of years, the MLWA has been involved in introducing native plants along 150 feet of shoreline on the west side of the park. Welcome to Our Neighborhood

These Trumpeter Swans were recently spotted on Meadow Lake. They are our largest native water fowl and America’s heaviest flying bird, weighing more than 25 pounds. In order to generate enough speed to get airborne, they require a 100 yard runway. Thankfully, our Meadow Lake provides the perfect take-off and landing strip. As Trumpeter swans usually mate for life,

we wish for them all the best.

Updated Website

The Meadow Lake Watershed Association web site will undergo some exciting changes in the coming weeks. We are in the process of updating pages covering general information of the MLWA and the status of projects designed to improve water quality and enhance conditions to support wildlife in and around the lake. A section highlighting the resources available on the site will be added. Plans for future growth including association news and events, pages drawing attention to wildlife sightings, and notes on aquatic vegetation will make the site a resource to return to again and again. New site address is:

Answer Key:

1. c. Daniel Boone The name for Boone Avenue was chosen during the development of St. Louis Park. New Hope kept the name as development extended north.

The name “Boone” was chosen by Mrs. Marlys Westling, when she and her husband subdivided their property north of Minnetonka Blvd. She chose the name to honor the American Frontiersman whom she claimed as a distant relative. (http://slphistory.org/streetnames)

2. a. 23

David Ottinger and Jim “Woody” Kuebelbeck hold this score, according to the plaque hanging in the club house. Spring is here. Get those clubs out of storage
