    Where is Albany?Albany, the regional centre of the Great Southern, is on the coast of Western Australia approximately 409 km south of Perth via Albany Highway; four hours travel by car or one hour by plane.

    About the communityFor thousands of years Albany has been the home of the Menang Noongar people. Discovered by the Dutch in 1626, claimed by Britain in 1771, and founded as a town in 1826, Albany is the rst European settlement in Western Australia with many buildings of historic signi cance.

    Albany has a strong maritime heritage and is renowned for its commercial whaling which ceased in 1978. The Albany Port is a major exporter and cruise ship berth.

    Today, the city of Albany has a population of approximately 34,000 people and the economy is driven mostly by the agriculture, tourism, timber production, shing, viticulture, and aquaculture and horticulture industries.
