TRANSCRIPT
We’ve had a fabulous February which included our Black History Celebration and the BETA Student Convention. Our teachers are continuing to teach lessons at high levels for students as they remain focused on our core business of teaching and learning. Our teachers and faculty have been working diligently to prepare “Every Child, Every Day.” Because educating children takes everyone, we thank you for your support this year and request your continued support. To help your child prepare for the approaching LEAP 2025, you can do the following:
1) Make sure your child completes all homework assignments and studies nightly;
2) Encourage your child to read something (books,
myON, newspapers, magazines) for 30 minutes
every evening;
3) Have your child attend school on time every day, and try to schedule doctor’s appointments after 3:00 P.M. if possible.
Let’s conclude our third quarter on a good note and remember that together we will continue to “strive for excellence.” Educationally yours, Mrs. Tamika Green Principal

Attention All Parents…We need your help!
Two-way communication and feedback are important to our schools and the district as we identify opportunities to improve. All parents are being asked to participate in a survey between March 11-22 as one method of gaining feedback from all stakeholders. The survey results will enable our school leaders to identify areas of improvement focused on student achievement and school and district ef-fectiveness. Students of parents who complete the Advanc-Ed survey by Thursday, March 14, 2019 will receive a dress down pass for Friday, March 15, 2019
The online parent survey can be accessed at
https://eprovesurveys.advanc-ed.org/surveys/#/action/95508/p1814.
Please contact the School Board Office’s Technology Help Desk at 985-785-3126 with any questions you may have. Your cooperation and support in completing the survey will be greatly appreciated!

8th Grade Class Scheduling
On Wednesday, March 13th, Destrehan High School counse-lors will come to the ACM cam-pus to help the 8th grade stu-dents schedule their freshman classes. More information will be sent home with 8th grade students closer to the schedul-ing date.
Preparing for LEAP 2025
LEAP 2025 testing will be administered online this year. Parts of the test will require that students type a short an-swer response or write an essay. Since the tests are timed, we would like to encourage our students to improve their typing skills by practicing at home. The following free, kid-friendly websites are recommended by Mrs. Barnett, our technology teacher, for our students to use for practice. www.dancemattypingguide.com www.typing.com www.kidztype.com www.nitrotype.com

Black History Program
On Wednesday, February 27th, ACM had its annual Black History Program. The theme this year was “A Lit-
erary Journey Rooted through Greatness!” The program began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Marcon
Anderson, a welcome by Mrs. DeLatte, and The Black National Anthem by the ACM Choir Students. The
students were entertained by readings from Jaida Walton and Lydia Guichard. Our talented theatre stu-
dents performed a skit from the play A Raisin in the Sun and our ACM band performed an African Ensemble
and musical selection. Special guests, the Kabuki Dancers, presented the history of Hip Hop.
Cyber Safety
On Monday, February 25th, the St. Charles Parish Sher-
iff’s office presented information to our parents about
Cyber-Safety. This informative meeting informed our par-
ents about the current trends and different types of pro-
grams regarding Cyber-Safety.

Notes from the Nurse
Head Lice, Pediculus humanus capitis, is a parasitic insect that can be found in
hair. Head lice feed off of human blood several times a day and live close to the
human scalp. Head lice can be a nuisance but are not known to spread diseases.
It is estimated that head lice infestations affect approximately 6-12 million people
annually and are common among school-aged children. Lice move by crawling
and are spread by direct contact with the hair of an infested person.
To help prevent and control the spread of head lice, here are some tips:
Avoid head to head contact while hugging, playing, lounging
Avoid sharing hats, scarfs, jackets/coats, hair brushes/combs, hair accessories
If you happen to get head lice, treat it promptly and properly. There are over-the-counter
treatments that can be purchased that will kill lice and nits. It is very important to focus on the treat-
ment of head lice on the infested person, but it is also important to give attention to other items such
as bedding, carpets, couches and any other items the person may have come in contact with over
the past 2 days with an infestation.
Parents, be sure to pay close attention and create a routine with checking your child’s hair
often. If you notice little white/beige colored eggs stuck to their hair that cannot be easily removed
and/or small bugs that crawl around on the scalp, you should initiate proper treatment. If this is dis-
covered during the school day with your child, you will be notified and prompt treatment will be rec-
ommended. If you have any questions or concerns about head lice, please give your school nurse a
call.

Choir Notes Festival Choir is in full swing preparing for our upcoming competitions at the Bayouland Choral Music Fes-tival on Thursday February 28th and the LEMA Large Ensemble Music Assessment on March 18th or 19th. The Festival Choir members are working diligently to prepare their program, as well as working on their sight reading skills as this is a large part of the competition. At home, all members are asked to use the rehearsal tracks that are posted in Google Classroom to ensure all of the music is learned properly. A letter was sent home with your child along with a rehearsal schedule. If you have not already done so, please return the “Festival Choir Fee” envelope to Mrs. Luquette. On March 16th,the Festival Choir will perform at the SCPPS Arts Awareness Festival. This FREE event is open to the public and will take place at the Lafon Performing Arts Center on the Westbank at 10AM.
Lost and Found With fall and winter weather here, all ACM Pirates are asked to label all sweaters, jackets, and pullovers. In the event
that any of these items are mistakenly left on campus in one of the classrooms, gym, cafeteria, or
even outside, these items then can be returned promptly to the rightful owners.
ACM does have a lost and found cart that is located inside the staff workroom. Students should ask
a staff member for assistance in retrieving items from this area as it is off limits to students.
Spring Arts Field Trip– Hamilton
On Thursday, March 28th, more than 100 ACM students, family members and faculty will be attending the performance of the Broadway show Hamilton at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans! We are so EXCITED for the opportunity to attend this performance. Hamilton: An American Musical is a sung-and-rapped through musical about the life of American Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton, with music, lyrics and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda, inspired by the 2004 biography Alexander Hamilton by historian Ron Chernow. Incorporating hip hop, R&B, pop, soul, traditional-style show tunes, this performance is sure to be something the students will remember for years to come. Parents of students attending this perfor-mance, be on the lookout for a confirmation letter and more information coming very soon!

Library’s Corner
This quarter has been a joyful one here in the library. Chapter Chat participants fin-ished off the month with another Louisiana Young Readers’ Choice selection. Students had the chance to participate in the voting process for the Readers’ Choice Book of the Year. Voting closed statewide on March 1. We are eager to hear which title was cho-sen by readers across the state.
Additionally, we enjoyed visits from the local librarians who orchestrated some crafting activities during lunchtime. Students have also been enjoying exploring circuitry with the addition of our new Snap Cir-cuit kit. Valentines’ Day and Mardi Gras provided additional opportunities for being creative. Meanwhile, seventh grad-ers have been immersing themselves in Civil War and slavery historical selections. Finally, student requests were sub-mitted for library purchases. We are eagerly awaiting their arrivals. Be sure your student is taking advantage of all our library has to offer!
