A JUO MAYA PRESENTATION

Albert Einstein was a creature of light and made out of light his great inspiration. One of the consequences of his theory of general relativity is that we live in an expanding universe.Of this universe we can only see what exists inside a bubble of information, delimited by thedistance the light could travel ever since the Big Bang.We are both part light and part prisoners of her.

MARCELO GLEISER March 26, 2014 Folha de So Paulo

He was the embodiment of pure intellect, the bumbling professor with the German accent,a comic clich in a thousand films.Instantly recognizable, like Charlie Chaplin's Little Tramp, Albert Einstein's shaggy-hairedvisage was as familiar to ordinary people as to the matrons who fluttered about him insalons from Berlin to Hollywood.Yet he was unfathomably profound the genius among geniuses who discovered, merelyby thinking about it, that the universe was not as it seemed.Even now scientists marvel at the daring of general relativity, but the great physicistwas also engagingly simple.

ALBERT EINSTEINTHE MAN BEHIND THE GENIUS

A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?

I have no special talent.I am only passionately curious.

Its not that I am so smart, its just that I stay with problems longer.

It is strange to be known so universally and yet to be so lonely.

I live in that solitude which is painful in youth, but delicious in the years of maturity.

A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer lifeare based on the labors of others.

It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothingbut an act of murder.

I think and think for months and years. Ninety nine times the conclusion is false. The hundredth time I am right.

I believe that a simple and unassuming manner of life is better for everyone, best both for the body and the life.

It gives me great pleasure indeed to see the stubbornness of an incorrigible nonconformist warmly acclaimed.

Isnt it strange that I who have written only unpopular books should be such a popular fellow?

That deep emotional conviction of a superior reasoning power, which isrevealed in the incomprehensible universe, forms my idea of God.

My life is a simple thing that would interest no one. It is a known fact that I was born and that is all that is necessary.

If I had my life to live over again, I would be a plumber.

Nothing that I can do will change the structure of the universe. But maybe, by raising my voice, I can help in the greatest of all causes goodwill among men and peace on earth.

As far as Im concerned, I prefer silent vice to ostentatious virtue.

I am enough of an artist to draw freely upon my imagination.

I have never looked upon ease and happiness as ends in themselves such an ethical basis I call more proper for a herd of swine.

The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education.

I used to go away for weeks in a state of confusion.

I want to know God's thoughts. The rest are details.
