SITE PH004-1: HWY 682:02, HINES CREEK (SITE 1)
1. OBSERVATIONS
1.1 Field Program and Instrumentation Status
Three slope inclinometers (SI07-1, Pile 20, and Pile 44), and two pneumatic piezometers
(PN07-2A and PN07-2B) were read at Hwy 682:02 Hines Creek Site 1 on October 3, 2018, by
Mr. Niraj Regmi, G.I.T. and Mr. Eddy Mar, E.I.T., of Thurber Engineering Ltd.
The SIs were read using two RST Digital Inclinometer probes with 2 ft. wheelbases and
RST Pocket PC readouts. Inclinometer reading depths were defined as per cable markings with
respect to the top of the inclinometer casing. The pneumatic piezometers were read using an
RST C108 pneumatic piezometer readout.
2. INTERPRETATION
2.1 General
SI plots for A and B directions are presented in Section D and are summarized below. Where
movement has been recorded, the resultant plot (X direction, if applicable) and rate of
movement have also been provided.
2.2 Zones of Movement
Zones of new movement were not observed in the SIs since the last set of readings in
the spring of 2018.

Zones of movement are summarized in Table PH004-1-1 at the end of this report. This table
also provides a historical account of the total movement, the depth of movement and the
maximum rate of movement that has occurred at this site since the initialization of the slope
inclinometers.
2.3 Interpretation of Monitoring Results
Slope inclinometer SI07-1 returned a rate of movement of 1.2 mm/yr since the spring of
2018 readings.
The slope inclinometer in Pile 20 shows a cumulative pile head movement of 59.3 mm over
0.8 m to 14.2 m depth with a rate of movement of 7.0 mm/yr since the spring of 2018 readings.
The slope inclinometer in Pile 44 has registered a cumulative pile head movement of 84.4 mm
over 0.8 m to 14.2 m depth with a rate of movement of 5.7 mm/yr. It is also noteworthy that Pile
44 shows deflection over its whole length, suggesting that a longer pile might have been
warranted for this location.
The groundwater level in pneumatic piezometer PN07-2A decreased by 0.06 m since the spring
of 2018 readings. The groundwater level increased in PN07-2B by 0.74 m since the spring of
2018 readings. The piezometer readings are summarized in Table PH004-1-2 below and are
plotted in Figure PH004-1-1 in Section D.
3. RECOMMENDATIONS
3.1 Future Work
The instruments should be read again during the spring of 2019.
3.2 Instrumentation Repairs
No instruments need repair at this site.
