ITINERARY

Sunday, Oct. 8 – 7:30 a.m. – Depart from the Houma – Terrebonne Civic Center, 346 Civic Center Blvd., Houma, on our comfortable motor coach and begin our journey to the Land of Enchantment, New Mexico. Lunch and rest stops along the way. We overnight in the Dallas area at Best Western Plus, Forney. A wine and cheese reception welcomes you after check in. Dinner is on your own this evening.

Monday, Oct. 9 – This morning finds us on our way to Amarillo. We’ll stop for an included lunch at Luby’s Cafeteria in Wichita Falls, Texas. Late afternoon we check into our hotel, Holiday Inn Express Amarillo and enjoy their manager’s reception offering drinks and light snacks. Dinner tonight is at the world famous Big Texan Steak Ranch and Brewery.

Tuesday, Oct. 10 – Today we arrive in Albuquerque. Upon arrival we enjoy a delicious lunch showcasing local cuisine at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Later we’ll tour the museum, the preeminent place to discover the history, culture, and art of the 19 Pueblos of New Mexico. See thousands of rare artifacts and works of art, including a world-renowned collection of historic and contemporary Pueblo pottery, as well as baskets, weaving, painting, murals, jewelry, and photographs. Next we visit the Anderson - Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum, a Gateway to History, Science & Technology. Discover how human aviation began with ballooning in 1783 and the many innovations that have followed. We later check into our home for the next three nights, the Hyatt Regency downtown, a full service hotel. A welcome reception awaits the group when we arrive. Dinner is on your own this evening. Perhaps you’ll venture out to several restaurants just two blocks away on historic Route 66.

Wednesday, Oct. 11 – Bright and early this morning we attend the morning session of the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. We’ll have breakfast there and witness the Flight of the Nations Mass Ascension. Walk amongst the balloonists and get up close to the action. Next, we’re off for an exciting ride on the Sandia Peak Tramway, an aerial tram that lofts passengers to the top of the 10,000 foot Sandia Peak. The 2.7 mile ride offers spectacular views east and west. A visit to Old Town Albuquerque follows. Old Town was the first neighborhood in Albuquerque in 1706, when a group of Spanish families settled there, not far from the Rio Grande. Have fun exploring the many shops housed in adobe buildings and strolling the winding streets surrounding the Plaza. Be sure to visit the San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. Lunch is on your own in Old Town. We return to the hotel for a rest before dinner this evening at Route 66 Diner. The food, friendly service and nostalgic décor are all part of the homage paid to a vanishing part of America’s history and the amazing legacy of Route 66. You’ll feel like you’re back in the 50’s and 60s with their eclectic ambiance! Betty Boop, Elvis, Marilyn, vintage and neon signs, juke box, soda fountain and Pez collection are just some of what you’ll experience tonight.

Thursday, Oct. 12 – This morning we head to Santa Fe where a local guide will introduce us to this historic and culturally rich city. Later you’ll have time to explore on your own. Visit the Loretto Chapel and its Miraculous Stairway, St. Francis Cathedral, and the Palace of the Governors. Shop with the many Native American vendors showcasing turquoise jewelry and other handmade items near the Plaza. Lunch is on your own in Santa Fe. This afternoon we’ll have an opportunity to rest before we return to the Balloon Fiesta for the evening session of Special Shape Glowdeo, a Laser Light Show, and the AfterGlow Fireworks Show. A light dinner will be served at the Balloon Fiesta.

Friday, Oct. 13 – We say goodbye to Albuquerque and start our drive home, making our way to Abilene, Texas, where we overnight at the Holiday Inn. Tonight we enjoy the The Ball Ranch Chuckwagon Supper & Original Western Stage Show. Dine on delicious barbeque and enjoy Western Music courtesy of the Ball Family. It’s sure to be a great time!

Saturday, Oct. 14 –This morning in Abilene we visit Frontier Texas!, a world class interactive museum that brings the frontier to life and lets visitors “meet” people who called the Texas frontier home. Later we’ll drive to Dallas and tour the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. See a full-size replica of White House Oval Office, steel from the World Trade Center and the bullhorn President Bush used to address the crowd at Ground Zero. We overnight again at the Best Western Plus near Dallas. Dinner is own your own this evening.
