PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE ‘FAME!’ THE MUSICAL Don’t forget to get your tickets to Fame! The Musical, see the flyer on the back. SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS I would like to congratulate students for their cooperation and participation in the photographs and especially Mr Honeyman and Ms Mortimer for their organisation. Catch up day, if students were absent, will be Monday 25 June. P&C SUBMISSION Our Prefect body made a great presentation to the P&C last night for funds to improve the boys and girls toilets with art works by students. A great idea, watch this space for reports on their progress. INTERNET PILOT Continuing with the good news, the school is involved with a pilot which should lead to an increase in our internet connection and operating capacity which is important as we work in a 21st Century and connected environment. BUSINESS MANAGER I would like to welcome to the school our new Business Manager, Mrs Nicole Hayward, who comes to us with a wealth of experience from the banking world. At the same time I would like to acknowledge the exceptional role of Mrs Janice Hofer in establishing the role at Albury High School. She has moved to James Fallon High School full time. This important role will focus on financial planning, work place health and safety, assets , and other areas.

SPORTING STUDENT PROFILE My name is Nivetha and I am a student who has been fortunate enough to represent many regions in cricket. Despite what most of you might think, cricket consists of a lot more than just standing around as it is a complex and technical sport. I find myself enjoying it more each time I play. I’m here today to share with you some of the opportunities I have been provided with.

I first started playing cricket in Year 8 when I got selected into the Riverina Open girl’s cricket team. Since then, my medium-pace bowling has led me to representing the regions of Riverina and North East Victoria while also playing for my club. Representing these regions have allowed me to play in Open girls NSW CHS, U/18 NSW Country and U/ 16 & U/18 Victorian State Championships. I have played against and in

the same team as some of the most elite junior female cricketers in the country. Recently, I got an excellent opportunity to play against a Melbourne premiere’s team, Carlton Brunswick. After this game, I was fortunate enough to be invited to train with them in Melbourne. Cricket has been the cause of a lot of travelling within our region and to places like, Bathurst, Newcastle and Melbourne. Each cricket season is busy and tiring with lots of training and travelling. My brother was a key player in initiating my interest in cricket and continues to help me further develop my skills. I have been privileged to be exposed to excellent coaching alongside a variety of coaching methods. I am also involved in academy programs so I can train during the off-season. This has led to a significant improvement in my ability to play the game. The coaches’ involvement in my cricket has got me more interested and confident to play. A rise in Women’s Big Bash and the Ashes have led to an increase in popularity in the sport. Year after year female cricket is becoming of a higher quality and more competitive. And in the recent downfall of the Australian men’s team, everyone would agree that the women’s team is better. I have been exceptionally fortunate to play with some skilful players and have gained many valuable experiences like captaining, opening the bowling and making great friends. I hope to develop my skills and possibly get selected in other representative teams in the future. I also wish to thank the school for encouraging me and helping me with my cricket. Any girls interested in playing cricket should check out their local club as many are now part of a girls cricket league. Feel free to see Mr Toohey or myself for more information. Thank you.
