Congratulations to:
Rachel Fellows for her selection to represent the Riverina at
the 2014 NSW All School Golf State Championships
Isabel Mitchell for competing at the Victorian Gymnastics
Championships on the weekend. As a result she has now been selected for the Victorian State Gymnastics Team
Bridget Johnston (Year 10) for her selection as a reserve for
the School Sport Australia Open Waterpolo Team after their championships in Queensland. Bridget also received the encouragement goalie award for the tournament. This continues an outstanding season for Bridget, following her Australian age group waterpolo selection earlier in the year.

YEAR ADVISERS CORNER
YEAR 9 Year 9 have been participating in a series of Health seminars provided by Medicare Local and presented by Dr Rosie Saxton. I would also like to thank Year 9 for their enthusiastic approach and excellent manners.
Mrs Marita Harriss
YEAR 11 STUDY DAY
The school’s Year 11 Study Day was held at the Latrobe University’s Wodonga Campus Friday 6
th June. Having the
day at the campus reinforces the links Albury High School already has with this tertiary institution and provides the students with a snapshot of life at university. All Year 11 students were expected to attend this study day as it is seen as an integral part of their senior studies program. The purpose of this day is to provide our senior students with
some extra skills that will assist them in undertaking their Preliminary and HSC courses. It allows students to reflect on their progress through their stage 6 education program and a look at possible future pathways.
Staff from Albury High School and Latrobe conducted a number of workshops and presentations throughout the day. There was a great introductory session with a panel of year 12 students; Louise Ainsworth, Dylan Harris, Spencer Hunter and Jacob Povolny and past student Jake Shannon; who is currently studying Nursing at La Trobe.
Workshops covered: relevant careers information, note taking and summarising, stress management and time management. Many thanks to Ms Madden, Miss McNair, Mr Morrison, Mr Jory, Mr Jackson, Miss Peel, Mrs Carol Watson and the staff at La Trobe for their contribution on the day.
Mr Andrew King Deputy Principal - Senior School
YEAR 11 BUSINESS STUDIES TRIP TO MARS PETCARE On Friday 9
th April
the year 11 Business Studies class
had an excursion to Mars Petcare company in Wodonga. During the excursion students had an opportunity to tour the ‘single serve’ plant where they viewed the transformation of meat slabs to packaged pet food ready for distribution. Before entering the plant students had to put on hair nets, ear plugs, long coats and safety glasses. Looking like scientists they were shown around the plant by employees. The students also watched a presentation about the Mars company; their views, standards, future ambitions and other internal franchises. The presentation was informative and greatly appreciated by all students.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS School photographs are fast approaching as the 17
th and 18

follows: · Junior boys - junior tie, grey jumper & grey shirt; · Senior boys - senior tie, grey jumper & blue shirt; · Junior girls - junior tie, red jumper & white shirt; · Senior girls - senior tie, red jumper & blue shirt.
Students involved in sporting team photographs on the Tuesday also have set uniform requirements. Please ensure your child refers to the sporting uniform information also provided in this Grapevine issue and that they contact their Team Coach or Manager if they have any queries.
Please note the photograph envelopes have been issued to students and they are meant to bring these on Wednesday even if they are not intending to purchase a photograph. Security of the envelopes is of paramount importance and students are reminded not to leave photograph envelopes unattended or in their bags.
Please contact either Mr Greg Wright or Ms Tanya Mortimer if you have any queries regarding school photographs.

SRC NEWS The SRC is having a very productive 1
st Semester.
Last Friday we held a successful bake sale, raising funds for ‘Writing with a Disability’. We raised $250 for one of our students, Emily Riley’s, chosen charity.
Currently, the SRC have three upcoming projects that we hope to complete by the end of Term 3. One project is to raise funds for either a refrigerated water bubbler or to provide more cover for shade in the year 8 areas.
Secondly, the SRC are planning to raise awareness and funds for Youth Homelessness by holding a musical evening.
The third project is in conjunction with the District SRC. We are planning to raise awareness for the ‘Don’t Text and Drive’ campaign.
We are preparing for the SRC Year 7 elections, to ensure that the elected students can be included in our activities by Term 3. Guidance classes will outline the roles and responsibilities of the SRC.
POSTCARD PORTRAITS During the Archibald Exhibition which was on display at the Albury Museum recently, students from all schools in the district were invited to include something in the Postcard show, which was intended to encourage students to explore the genre of portraiture.
Students from most Visual Arts classes contributed a piece of work, using a variety of techniques including watercolours, printmaking, painting, drawing and collage.
All the works were on display in the library during the Archibald Exhibition.
Mrs Paula Watson

UNIVERSITY PRACTICUM PLACEMENTS Albury High School is currently hosting a number of university students completing various teaching placements. The students work with our staff to further enhance their university training, and in most cases will ‘team teach’ with our staff. They will then teach classes independently under the classroom teacher’s supervision. The majority of placements occur from Charles Sturt University and La Trobe University. This is a great opportunity to showcase the teaching profession and our school.
Mr Damian Toohey
Deputy Principal - Junior School PSSA ATHLETICS CARNIVAL A group of Year 9 PASS students went to the PSSA Athletics Carnival on Thursday 5
th June to act as
volunteer student officials. Following is a snippet of the email received from the carnival coordinator, Jason Hallandale from Howlong Public School.
They were absolutely outstanding Tara!
Thank you so much.
The students selected were friendly, helpful and showed plenty of initiative.
There were plenty of good comments from other teachers at the carnival too.
They just made the day run so smoothly.
Once again, thank you so much for organising them.
Thank you very much to the following students for representing AHS, the community and your families to the highest of standards and for being honest and reliable!

Mr Greg King Head Teacher PDHPE
YEAR 10 PDHPE As part of the Year 10 PDHPE Anti-Discrimination Unit, students were required to write a poem. This is one example of work submitted:
I Have a Dream I have a dream where the world is one
where we all come together With no wars to be won.
Of a world without judgement
without fear and terror where no one is different, or full of rage and anger.
Could it be possible? Could all this be true?
Could we live in a world where I’m no different than you?
I have a dream of global acceptance,
a dream of freedom, a dream of quintessence.
Of a world in harmony,
a world in peace, a world where we aren’t judged by our
sexuality.
Now could it be possible? Could all this be true?
Could we live in a world where I’m no different than you?
Could we live in a world with no hate or
disgust? Could we live in a world with no political fuss?
In a world with so much love to spare, that when you have a bad day people actually
care.
I have a dream where gay is okay. Where we aren’t afraid of what someone
might say. Where children are cherished, and aren’t
treated like trash, where love is more important than power or
cash.
So could it be possible? Could all this be true?
Could we live in a world where I’m no different than you?
Where your personal choice is exactly that.
Where rumours aren’t spread instead of true facts.
I want a world filled with laughter and fun, a world full of freedom, and hate towards
none. I want a world full of respect and peace, where people speak kindly with a “Thank
You” at least.
Can we live in a world where love is love? Where we don’t hide who we are, like a
hand in a glove. I want a world where we can all stand tall, with no discrimination or fighting, just ac-
ceptance for all.
I want a world with no lying or cheating; where children aren’t controlled by a brutal
beating. I want a world where we are who we are
where it’s exactly that, not something bizarre.
So could this be possible?
Can all this be true? Can we live in a world where I’m no different
than you?
