Albury North Public School Term 1, Week 9 23 March 2020

Should I keep my child away from school ? Schools will remain open for families that have no option but to send their children to school.

Is our school still open? Yes and will remain open for the rest of the school term unless health advice changes.

Do we have enough soap and toilet paper? Yes.

What else are we doing at school this week to help our students ? • More outdoor learning activities • Washing our hands more regularly • School cleaning hours have been increased

How will we update you with any new information ? Facebook is immediate, then use our normal communication channels - our school website, newsletter and extra notes home.

If my child is at home, can I have some work for my child ? At this stage, we have been advised in the short term that the Department of Education will be making available learning activities that can be completed at home. There will be a digital and paper version. Here is the best spot for more information : https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/learning-from-home

The NSW DoE will be moving towards an on-line learning model. You can help our planning enormously by completing the Mathletics and Readings Egg survey sent out last week. At this stage, we have 25% of surveys returned. We have sent home passwords again today. They are the same for both. Frequently Asked Questions - COVID19 Update

HANG IN THERE!⬅ These are challenging times for all of us but we love the way our students have turned up each day ready to learn and give their best. Just look at the determination on these faces during the final gymnastics session of the We Can Do It program.

From the classroom

Rotary grant

We love celebrating our students’ successes and this from Noel Danseco in K-3 KG is most definitely a work of art. Noel put in a huge amount of effort and showed real perseverance to complete his Goosebumps picture and is rightly very proud of the finished product.

“I love Goosebumps,” said Noel. “The picture took a long time, three days, and it was hard to finish but it feels good seeing it up on the wall now. “I watched Goosebumps at home and drew this from memory. I helped one of my friends, Mark, draw the characters as well.” ➡

⬅ Over in 1/2 RT, students have been using their adjectives to great effect by writing letters. The Wicked Fairy has been in touch with Sleeping Beauty and some strong views have been expressed!

Dear Sleeping Beauty,

I am not sorry for putting a wicked spell on you. I will get my revenge, first the kingdom and then the world.

Uh oh, I just told you my plan.

From the Wicked Fairy.

JULIET WASHINGTON

Dear Sleeping Beauty,

I am not sorry so do not forgive me. On your 29th birthday, I will blast in the door and put a spell on you. You will fall into a deep sleep and I will rule all you do. First, that snooty little castle. If you write back, I will throw it in the bin.

TIA FITOURAKIS

Last week the Albury Rotary Club delivered a very generous cheque to the value of $5000. This funding was raised through their work with  'Circus Quirkus'  as well as the sponsors and local businesses  that support it.  The money will go towards our 10 day Swimming School Scheme that takes place at the end of the year and involves every one of our students. We take water seriously and we are extremely grateful that the Albury Rotary Club could help us continue to commit to this wonderful program.A big thank you to the volunteers, sponsors and local businesses that support the Albury Rotary Club.

1. Where in the world would you like to travel? I’ve always wanted to travel to Norway. I’d really like to see the Northern Lights and see snow at Christmas time.

2. What’s the most useless talent you have? I can curl my upper lip.

3. What pets did you have

growing up? We had dogs, chickens, a cat and a rabbit.

4. How handy are you at fixing things? Absolutely hopeless - but better than Mr Smith!

5. What movie never gets old, no matter how many times you’ve seen it? Love Actually. It’s a classic and Hugh Grant… hubba hubba ding dong!

6. Favourite song? Anything by 5 Seconds of Summer. Just ask anyone in my class - we listen to them over and over.

Statement from Hume Bank

Getting to know…

MS SCULLIN

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, we value the safety and well-being of our School Banking partners, their students and our School Banking team. Accordingly, we have put on hold the School Banking pick-up service offered as part of our Program effective immediately.

During this time, as an alternate deposit option, we encourage parents and guardians to continue supporting their children’s savings behaviour by depositing funds into their child’s account via recurring electronic transfer.

In other news around the school…

Please help our office We understand that at times during the day, things change for your child and you may need to give them a message. These messages are passed on to teachers during recess and lunch (every teacher gets a 30-minute break each day). If the message comes in the afternoon, unfortunately we will not be able to pass it on as many teachers are not in their classroom during this time. If it is just a reminder of a message, perhaps a note in your child’s lunchbox would help.

NAPLAN Cancelled There will be no NAPLAN tests this year.

Survey Draw Winner The winner of our $50 Target voucher for returning the computer survey by last Friday is Elijah Harrington in 1AM & family. The results of the survey at this stage are very positive in retaining both Reading Eggs and Mathletics. You can still return surveys as we value your opinion.
