THE VOTES ARE IN… It’s that time of year when new school captains and councillors are
chosen – so who will they be? These students have put themselves
forward and the votes are now being counted. More inside
This week at ANPS…
Every day in Kinder we do different rotations. One of our favourites is the feely bag, with Mrs Fury, and the writing boards. Sometimes we play money games on the smart board. Mrs Noske chooses people who are sitting down very nicely and being patient. If you’re chosen you put your finger on the board and swipe up into the money box. Using the board for Maths has helped us learn how to count up to 200. We love reading. We have home readers and the teacher tells us what level we’re at so we know which books we can take. Our mums and dads help us read at home – once a night. We can also borrow books from the school library. You can’t just go into the library at any time but it’s open during recess and lunch. When you’re in there you can also use iPads to share with your friends and play games. In the classroom we’ve used glue and scissors to make things. We made fireworks pictures, painting it all black to start and then using the end of a paintbrush to make the colours of the fireworks. If you’ve been good, you can choose what to do during free play. We can do some drawing or use the magnetic shapes, sticking them together to build stuff. The teacher will also tell us when we’re allowed to go out of the classroom to read to someone or play with the kitchen equipment and the play house. Zayden: The best thing at school is the goal posts. I like playing football and my favourite player is Dusty. Mia: I like being outside with my friends.

SPEECHES: Well done to all the Year 5 students who presented speeches last week. It will be an incredibly tough decision to select our leadership team for 2020 as all spoke impressively about their vision for this school.
Our new student council will be announced at Presentation Day Tuesday 10th December in Week 9.

SUMMER READING: Reading during the summer break has many benefits. We strongly believe in the value of students continuing to develop positive reading habits and improving their skills over the holiday period.
As part of the summer reading program, students will be able to borrow six books to read and share with you over the summer break. Please fill out a form From Mrs Dick and return it to the school office.
The program is open to students in K-5 although places are limited to the first 60 students to return their expression of interest.

MUTUAL EXCHANGE: Missing an item of school uniform? Can’t go out to play because you don’t have a hat? Or perhaps you need some new sports kit but are struggling to find the money? We can help – if you can help too.
Our mutual exchange program offers you the chance to earn the item you need by doing some tasks around school. You could do some weeding, help a teacher, pick up papers or spend time reading in the reading lounge – among other things – earning $3 a time.
REMEMBRANCE DAY The school fell silent last week as we paused to remember all those who lost their lives in the First World War. Students gathered for an outdoor ceremony at 11am and poppies were laid.

SWIMMING: Due date for swimming notes to be returned is next Wednesday (Nov 27).
There are two 10-day programs for Year 2-6 students which begin on Monday, December 2.
The Intensive DoE Swimming Program is for children unable to swim 25m confidently unaided in deep water and the Royal Lifesaving Swim and Survive Program is for Y3-6 children needing stroke correction, survival and endurance skills.
Lessons will run for 30-40 minutes and there is a $35 cost for travel to Lavington Swimming Centre. Please don’t miss out on these programs which are crucial for your child.

LOST PROPERTY: If you can’t find an item of clothing, there’s every chance it’s on our lost property rail outside the school reception. We’ve got unclaimed jumpers, t-shirts, lunch boxes and drink bottles so make sure you check before the end of term.
First Steps continues on Friday from 12.30pm in the library. It looks like Mr Bell has been taking the opportunity to audition for a slot on the ABC’s Play School Story Time!
Hats off to the youngest member of our school who celebrated his first birthday this week! Be sure to congratulate Waffles if you see him around…
Haven’t we seen you somewhere before? Six years ago, in 2013, these students were finishing Year 6 at Albury North and now they’re graduating from James Fallon High School. We wish every single one of them all the best for the future!
