ALBURY PUBLIC SCHOOL PROUD Member of the crossing point learning community Week 3 Term 2 16 May, 2018 Despite the absolute freezing cold of last Friday morning it was terrific to see such a great turn out for the Mothers Day breakfast. A huge congratulations to Claire and her team for a job well done. I think that the egg and bacon roll was one of the best I have ever tasted, thank you so much. I hope that all mothers, grandmothers and carers were able to enjoy the beautiful weather on Sunday and spend some quality time with family. This week, amongst the many other things we have happening, we are waving off our Year 4 students who are heading to Borambola Sport and Recreation Centre outside Wagga Wagga. The three day, two night experience started today with many smiling faces and heavy bags as the students and teachers drove away from the cheering (sorry, very sad) Year 4 parents/ carers. We will welcome them back on Friday afternoon. I hope that sleep and the weather are kind to you on this exciting experience. Our Year 3 and Year 5 students are in the midst of NAPLAN testing this week. This test is an annual test, completed by students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 across the country. The tests are a snapshot of where a student is at a point in time and students are encouraged to do their best but not be anxious about the testing process. Student results will be presented to parents as a descriptive report and will be sent home next term. Friday will be the catch up day for any students who have been absent during the week. A reminder for our Aboriginal parents/carers that afternoon tea, Cuppa and a Yarn, is on tomorrow afternoon from 1:30 – 3:00pm. Please come along and join Cathie Egan, Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer with the Department of Education (Albury) and myself in the school hall. If you would like further details, or have any questions, please contact Cathie on 6051 4333 or [email protected]. Our school Facebook page is a great way for parents/carers to stay in touch with what is happening at the school. It is also a great opportunity to showcase some of the great things happening at the school. We rely on photos from parents, carers and teachers to capture many of the great things happening around the school and at extra-curricula or after school events. If you have any photos (or accompanying news/commentary) please email it to the school so that we can post it on Facebook. Previously we have advised you that Semester one reports would be sent home on 27 June. With all of the camps, external validation and competing demands, reports will now be sent home on Monday 2 July (Week 10). Parents/carers or teachers may still request a follow up interview in Week 10 or into the first few weeks of Term 3, should they be required. Parents/carers are encouraged to contact the school to make a time to discuss any emerging issues or student progress with their teacher. Quote of the week: Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence”. Colin Powell Enjoy the week. This is a great place to be. NATIONAL WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY – This Friday 18 May the staff of Albury Public School encourage all our families to walk all or part of the way to school. The national theme for 2018 is that all children under the age of 10 years should hold an adult’s hand as they cross the road. While you are walking remember to cross roads safely. Use the pedestrian crossings so that all our students understand the importance of these in our local community. We want all our students to arrive safely to school every day so let’s practise this Friday.

Enjoy your walk! Jenny Boehm, Coordinator.

NRMA ROAD SAFETY SHOW- Thank you to all the families who have returned the permission notes for the NRMA Road Safety Show performances that will be held on Wednesday 23 May. The students are encouraged to decorate their bike helmets and bring them to school to wear during the performances. For decorating ideas, as well as more information on the performances, google ‘NRMA Road Safety Show’. Parents are also invited to attend one of the performances, which will be held in the school hall at:

9.00am - Years 3 and 4

10.00am – Kindergarten

11.20am – Years 5 and 6

1.40pm – Years 1 and 2. Jenny Boehm, Coordinator

K-2 SPORTS DAY- Next Thursday 24 May is our K-2 Sports Day, which is being held in our school grounds. The day will commence after recess at 11:30am with the age running races on the Block. After the barbecue lunch at 1:40pm, all K-2 classes will participate in the combined tabloid sport activities. Parents/carers are most welcome to come along and cheer for their child. Many thanks to the parents/carers who have volunteered to help. Thanks also to the canteen helpers for organising the sausage sizzle.

PSSA STATE TENNIS CARNIVAL- Congratulations to Blake and Ryan Tinworth and Ethan Haberfield who competed at the PSSA State Tennis Carnival last week. Unfortunately Harry Grigg was unable to compete due to injury. A great effort boys! PSSA STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT- Last week Lenny Koller and Oliver Mack played in the Riverina team at the PSSA State Basketball Tournament in Tamworth. The boys were commended for their sportsmanship, skill and temperament. The Riverina team did well finishing 8th. Well done. RUGBY LEAGUE PSSA REPRESENTATIVE- Congratulations Lachlan Ratnik for his performance at the Riverina Rugby League trial held at Leeton on Wednesday May 2. Lachie was part of a combined Albury-Young team playing at the trials. Lachie performed well playing on the wing but unfortunately did not gain selection in the Riverina team. Congratulations again to Lachie on being the sole Albury Public School player in the team.

AFL PLAYER VISIT- Last Tuesday Stage 3 received a visit from Darcy Parish and Dylan Clarke who play AFL for Essendon. Students were treated to a quick question and answer session where some boys and girls were lucky enough to be presented with prizes for their thoughtful questions. Following this there was a short skills clinic where students got to have a kick and a handball with Darcy and Dylan. Thank you to Mr Jack Bradley from AFL Albury-Murray who coordinated the visit. Alex Takle, Coordinator

BOOK COVERING HELP REQUIRED- Stage 3 have recently acquired a variety of texts that require covering

before they can be used by the students. If you are one of those people who finds book covering therapeutic or

wants to help get some great educational texts into the hands of our students, please help. You can do so by

This term 3LB have been learning about

MINDFULNESS to help us focus, remain calm and make

better decisions. One of the ways we do this is through

our gratitude journal.

This is our gratitude tree in our classroom, to remind us to look for the little things we are grateful for

each day.
