OUR STORY

THE GOLDEN RULETHE DREAM TEAM CREATES YOUR DREAM DAY

alchemy: noun, \’al-kah-me\: a power or process of transforming something common into something special: an inexplicable or mysterious transmuting

Alchemy is simple chemistry. The chemistry between you as a couple is vital to your relationship, and the chemistry between your wedding vendors is just as important for creating a stunning, one-of-a-kind event. After working on weddings separately and together we couldn’t help but notice that when the three of us work together the result is inevitably an unforgettable event that exceeds our wildest expectations. Sometimes, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts - and this concept amplifies when you’re already working with pretty stellar parts.

We have found in the events we work together that our couples are a little more relaxed and carefree, the décor is a little more creative and cohesive, the day runs more smoothly and the photography reflects all of the magic a little more clearly. When there is a team of wedding professionals with like-minded styles, excellent communication, shared philosophies and complimentary goals that support the wedding, it transforms into an event that is truly unforgettable. To us, that is what Alchemy is all about.

We are excited to showcase some of our special weddings and inspiration shoots in our first edition of Alchemy. We love the unique details and the way that they mix harmoniously. We love the creativity and the unique excitement behind every event that we help create. But most of all, we love the looks of love, happiness and enjoyment on the faces of our couples.

To us, that is pure gold.

TO ASK ABOUT HOW

CAN BE PART OF YOUR WEDDING

Samantha and Ryan truly are world travelers. Having met when they were younger in the Philippines, the couple reunited as adults and kept in touch while Samantha finished her MBA in Spain and Ryan stayed busy with work in San Francisco and Napa. Initially, they wanted a romantic and intimate wedding in Napa - but later decided to move the wedding to the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco to better serve their International guest list. We strived to create the same sense of intimacy while still accommodating the growing guest list - all while telling the love story of our traveling duo.

Inspired by their love of travel, we stole from Italian, Spanish and Moroccan design to create their Modern Mediterranean design. Our design-savvy bride created an invitation suite that we inflused with vibrant jewel-toned colors like ruby red, golden yellow, turquoise blue, deep eggplant and warm amber. These colors were used throughout the design from tabletop to attire.

Samantha’s gown was custom designed by Veluz. The layers of silk and champagne sequins made for a truly stunning bride - especially with a matching cathedral length veil. Her bouquet was filled with both lush jewel-toned blossoms, as well as gorgeous vibrant brooches that added a bit of sparkle to an already stunning bouquet. The bridesmaids all wore custom turquoise silk chiffon long gowns and carried matching jewel-toned bouquets, while the groomsmen wore black suits and matching turquoise ties and Ryan wore a light grey suit and turquoise tie.

The ceremony was held at one of the oldest cathedrals still standing in California, Old St. Mary’s. Guests then traveled to the Fairmont Pavilion Room, by way of hosted Cable Cars, where they enjoyed a vast array of Mediterranean hors d’oeuvres display. Drinks were serve in the round beneath the absolutely stunning crystal chandelier that anchored the majority of the ceiling.

Once the cocktails and treats had been consumed, guests were invited across the Rooftop Garden up to the Crown Room - a space where all of San Francisco can easily be seen during an incredible sunset filled with sparkling city lights. Guests were greeted with a display of Mediterranean treats which doubled as an escort card to help them find their seats. Each table was swathed in a rustic turquoise drape, accented with white chair and chargers and topped with a rustic orange napkin and beautiful Florentine-inspired menu. Lush table arrangements sat atop white carved stands and were filled with sunflowers, lisianthus and accented with succulents, white Moroccan lanterns and fresh miniature apples. Elements from their Mediterranean travels were included in the centerpieces and decor, making it even more personalized and special - Moroccan wax candles, tiles and pottery added a unique touch to each table.

Once seated for dinner, guests enjoyed a delicious five course meal, finishing with a delectable dessert display of mini cannoli, French macarons, and a gorgeous wedding cake. Post-dinner, the couple had prepared games, multimedia presentations and had an amazing photo booth, complete with Moroccan tent backdrop, throughout the evening. Guests stayed late into the night, dancing to the music and enjoying the incredible surrounding city views.

The careful thought and attention to detail by both Samantha and Ryan truly made for a memorable evening for their guests. The guest experience was a top priority and ensuring that the reception program kept guests involved and entertained was hugely important - and these both created a sense of intimacy for everyone, as all felt involved and included throughout the evening.

“A bride always wants to have the best wedding she can ever have. This not only means having the most gorgeous flowers, the most creative design and decor, or the most breathtaking photos; it also means working with wonderful people who understands and fuels her vision, not having to worry about the process or the outcome because of the trust she has in their work ethic and impeccable taste, and just having a lot of fun in the midst of the frazzling activities involved in planning a wedding.

Working with the “Dream Team” gave me and my husband all of these and more. We were thoroughly impressed with their work throughout the entire planning process. Moreover, their work dynamic was infectious. They work so well together that one wonderful idea rolled after the next, coming together in this compelling, cohesive, and unique theme. Plus we didn’t feel like we were just a client or a project. They always had our best interests at heart and we were very appreciative of that.

I think it’s wonderful that Kate, Shannon, and Sarah have worked together for so long. They already understand each other and build on one another so well that we felt like we didn’t even had to do anything - no anxiety or headaches on my part. These three will truly give you a wedding with memories that will last a lifetime for you and your guests. They certainly gave me mine. “

1. Sparkle Metallics, sequins, sparkle and glitter are all super hot right now! Mixing and matching different shades of gold, rose gold, copper, silver, platinum and gilver (yes, a special blend of golden silver) can add a touch of luxe glamour and elevate any color palette you are working with. Metallics are timeless and work for every style from vintage to modern.

2. Prints Gingham, stripes, ikat, and seersucker can all help communicate your unique aesthetic and add visual interest to your tablescapes, stationery and even your bridal party!

3. Global Influence From Moroccan lanterns to Tuscan herbs, worldly influences are a wonderful way to tell the tale of your travels to your guests. You can hint to your upcoming French Riviera honeymoon with lavender sprigs at each placesettings - or honor your far away family members by serving Italian wedding cookies with your coffee course.

4. Interactive Food Popular dessert displays of cakes, French macarons, and mini desserts are not the only option for a fun fête - opt for a sundae bar, crepe station or gelato stand to allow your guests to interact with their food and create a fantastic conversation piece at your wedding.

5. Eclectic Accents Gone are they days of the single vase centerpiece - clients are opting to utilize vintage, retro, and collectable items in collaborative vignettes that showcase the unique personalities, heritages and styles of the guests of honor. Include an antique trumpet accented by fresh flowers and tealights on your gift table to honor your fiancée’s childhood musical talents, include beautifully framed wedding photos of older relatives on your cake table or have your guests sign collected vinyl records as a guestbook that can be framed and hung in your home. Today’s decor not only adorns an event, but also tells a story.

When Meredith and Jeff decided to have their backyard wedding at Jeff’s parents home, the first thing they booked was a clear top tent - a true showstopper that allowed guests to enjoy lofty clouds and vibrant sunsets as the event progressed. Ultimately, they wanted to have a romantic, beautiful wedding with a few fun twists.

To pay homage to the groom’s love of seersucker suits, not only did we have the groomsmen don the same attire, but we also reflected the unique pattern on the stationery, the napkins, accented on vases and wrapped around the bouquets and boutonnieres. Meredith wore a perfectly fitting silk tulle Amy Kuschel gown with pleating that mimicked the lines of the suit pattern. The bridesmaids wore a soft grey chiffon and their lush yellow bouquets of fluffy garden roses, crespedia, succulents and ranunculus popped against their dresses - as did their vibrant blue necklaces, a gift from the bride.

Held in the front yard of the home, the ceremony was a unique setup, with guests on one side of the aisle and wedding party on the other. Shannon of Flourish accented the entry arch with gorgeous yellow blooms and petals sprinkled along the well-landscaped walkway. The wedding party ‘hopped’ over the flowers as they stood in position – and the ceremony format reflected the unique backgrounds of the bride and groom, as both are attorneys.Guests were ‘sworn in’ at the beginning of the ceremony and it was lead by a family friend who also happened to be a judge. After a few tears and a big dip for the first kiss, the guests headed to the backyard to enjoy the reception under the stars.

The palette of navy, yellow, and aqua was anchored by slate grey in the table linens. Milk glass accents the tables and were filled with creamy yellow blooms, succulents and sugar lemons and the vessels themselves were tied with seersucker accents. Aqua mason jars filled with candles added ambiance. The menus, place cards, dessert signs and seating chart all tied together the seersucker theme. Colorful lanterns swung overhead to draw attention to the stunning clear ceiling. The wedding party were announced in to a faux ‘double dutch’ demonstration, after which guests enjoyed a delectable family-style dinner, yummy mini cupcakes, fantastic cake pops, Wally Water (a beloved family signature beverage) and lots of dancing. In the end, it was exactly what Meredith and Jeff wanted for their big day - romantic, beautiful and a ton of fun!

Kate, Shannon and Sarah,Working with all three of you made my wedding everything I could have hoped for. Having three people who have worked together repeatedly eliminated a lot of stress. Firstly, I was confident that Kate’s vision (along with mine) could be easily translated into reality. She was able to gather what I wanted from pictures and ideas, and describe these things easily in “wedding planner” talk to both Sarah and Shannon. Additionally, she was there every step of the way to speak up for me if she didn’t think the idea was coming across. I also felt comfortable because Kate had an existing relationship with both these vendors, and liked them. This made it much easier for me to say- no I don’t like that- and for Kate to easily fix it, because the vendors wouldn’t be upset by her honesty. However, this really wasn’t necessary, as both Shannon and Sarah did an amazing job giving me exactly what I wanted. Finally, I think having used Kate, she also knew what materials Shannon had available for floral, and was able to incorporate those items (such as the turquoise vases) into our overall look. This helped save money and time for all. Overall, it was a great experience working with all three of the ladies because I knew that they were ALWAYS on the same page. And when all the vendors are working together towards a common goal, the wedding is bound to turn out beautifully. Thank you for making everything so perfect!

Your wedding day goes by faster than you can possibly imagine. You are surrounded by those you love most as you make promises, laugh, cry, and dance. Your wedding is a celebration of the love you’ve discovered, and as your photographer there is nothing more important to us than creating beautiful images of you on that day. But the last place we want you to be is hanging out with us while your family and friends celebrate you. We want you to spend as much time as possible in the presence of those who have loved and supported you through your life and who will no doubt continue to do so through your marriage.

That being said, we still want more than anything for you to have incredible images that make your breath catch and your guts shake. And there is nothing more difficult in our line of work that trying to help capture and create magical images within the ever lessening window of time between your “I do’s” and your celebration. With this in mind we offer one of our favorite services ever – the fun and fearless Day After Session. The Day After Session is a great opportunity to not only rock your wedding wear again, but to have the time to make some truly

incredible images of you together without the constraints of a wedding day.

A Day After Session is a fantastic way to show off your style as well. It’s an opportunity to be photographed in a location much different than your wedding – or as an extension of it. If you’re having a beautiful wine country wedding, why not plan a Day After Session that shows off your urban side with a shoot in the city or your love of the ocean at the beach? The beauty of a Day After Session is how limitless it is – it is truly all about you and making stunning images you’ll cherish for years to come. A Day After Session is not strictly photographed the day after your wedding. We’ve had couples who have done so though, or gave themselves a buffer day or a couple of months before having their session. This allows you the freedom to schedule your Day After Session at the time that works best for you and the location we’ll be shooting in as well.

A Day After Session is a great way to celebrate each other and your love with breathtaking images you’ll cherish always.

FUN & FEARLESS - DAY AFTER SESSIONS

WRITTEN BY SARAH MAREN WHITEHEAD

Where you first met each other: Whether your first meeting was a discussion at the library or fumbling for the door at the local coffee shop, going back to your beginnings is a marvelous memory.

Your favorite skyline: Your city is beautiful at any time of the year, and the skyline shares where you live now, a beautiful location that might change with time.

A downtown urban session: Fun and funky, pictures in alleyways or in otherwise undiscovered locations of your area make for a more intimate view of the city.

An amusement park: Nothing says fun like the Tilt-A-Whirl to go with your whirlwind romance.

A romantic beach: In the morning, evening or any time of day, the sea meets an endless sky for a feeling of forever.

Vintage-styled, with old furniture and funky clothes: Bring out your nostalgic or avant garde side with some dramatic, edgy modern shots coupled with retro stylings.

Seasonal: Catch the nuances of the seasons, including everything from a winter wonderland, to leaves of fall, to flowers in spring, to the lush, green summers in nearby beautiful fields and forests.

Rock Star Romance: Gather your guitars and amps and use a club or theatre to show off you rockin’ love.

GREAT DAY AFTER SESSION IDEAS

Jillian and Dustin have a fantastic sense of style - and it certainly shone through on their wedding day! Jillian’s stunning Jenny Packham dress with lace-up back and incredible headpiece was the perfect compliment to Dustin’s John Varvatos black velvet tuxedo and matching Tom Ford black velvet bowtie.

Using Jillian’s platinum and sapphire engagement ring as a starter, we designed an event with lots of sapphire blue stripes, platinum silver, pearl, lemon yellow and aqua details. The bridesmaids wore elegant long blue gowns and carried beautiful bouquets of creamy ivory blossoms sprinkled with touches of yellow blooms, velvety grey dusty miller and large pearls. Jillian’s bouquet included many of the same flowers in ivory tones but sparkled with brooches and draping pearl strands. The boys all wore black suits with sola flower boutonnieres and charms that signified each unique personality.

The ceremony was beautifully candlelit, with a mirrored backdrop flanked by tealights overhead, on a table beneath swagged with pearl strands, and along the aisle that was also draped with hanging pearl strands. The wedding party walked down the aisle to an acoustic guitar showcasing Bright Eyes and Beatles tunes. It was romantic, elegant and kept the intimate feel that Jillian and Dustin had requested.

The cocktail hour brought guests up to the gorgeously draped Metropolitan Terrace where they enjoyed hors d’ouvres in comfort-food-style and a blue raspberry martini signature beverage. The room was swathed in ambient candlelit uplighting and tables were draped in crushed navy velvet and textural blue rosette linens. Centerpieces sat tall atop carved silver stands and the lush blooms were draped in pearl strands, while mercury glass vessels with shimmering candles flanked the base. A VIP lounge area of vintage silver velvet sofas and silver leather ottomans bordered the dance floor. As the reception guests were served wine and tasted cake from the groom’s family winery and bakery. Once the dance party began, the uplighting changed to aqua to bring a new ambiance to the room.

This design truly reflected Jillian and Dustin’s true sense of style - many guests commented that they dressed perfectly for the unique event style, while the couple felt that they were true to themselves. This is the highest compliment a design can receive - to create something unique and beautiful that let’s the client’s true style shine through!

ALL THE DETAILS

FROM THE BRIDE “Kate, Sarah and Shannon are a complete dynamite package! I was told that together they are ‘The Dream Team’ I was not disappointed. Our wedding was perfect, beautiful, and unique. These three amazing ladies are so unbelievably talented, creative, and just down right special. They listened to me and they exceeded my expectations. My flowers, my photos, my wedding was everything I ever wanted. I cannot say enough wonderful things about these women! Everything they do down to the smallest detail is special because it’s done with love and that’s what makes all the difference. They love what they do, they love each other and they love their brides. I will always have a special place in my heart for them. The Dream Team, yes, they are.”

FLORAL INSPIRATION

Add a family memento to your bridal bouquet The bridal bouquet is a wonderful place to add special meaning. You can add a brooch that belonged to your Grandmother, a cufflink worn by your Grandfather on his wedding day or a picture of a beloved family member in a locket to the flower you carry down the aisle. Our bride, Jillian pinned a poem written by her grandmother to her bridal bouquet.

Let your interests inspire your décor Hobbies or a favorite pastime you and your fiancé share can inspire your wedding day décor. Are you foodies? Fruit and vegetables can make a wonderfully textural and unexpected addition to your centerpieces. Showcase your love of travel by incorporating small treasures from your trips into your décor. Take a cue from your favorite hiking spot and surround your ceremony site in potted live trees accented with fresh moss.

Bringing your heritage into your wedding flowers Incorporating the flower of your homeland is a wonderful way to pay homage to the background of your families and to your heritage. Dahlias are the national flowers of Mexico, the protea is the national flower of South Africa, and the thistle is the national flower of Scotland. Use the flower that represents your nationality in the bouquets and the boutonnieres.

Decor that Dazzles WRITTEN BY

SHANNON COSGROVE-RIVAS

Fabric patterns and colors can cue your wedding decor Look beyond the colors and fabrics of your bridesmaid dresses for décor inspiration. Specialty linens, the Groom’s suit fabric or even your favorite sofa pillow can be the basis for your wedding day decor. Use the colors, the weave and other aspects of the fabric to build your wedding’s unique look. Our bride, Meredith carried the seersucker of the bridal parties’ suits throughout the table linens, centerpieces and even the boutonnieres.

The meaning of flowers In times past couples would gift flowers with certain significance attached to them as a means to communicate their feelings. Use this quaint tradition to add extra meaning to your wedding day flowers. You could carry a bouquet of anemone, stock, orchids and sweet pea signifying expectation, lasting beauty, love and pleasure. These flowers convey the perfect message for a wedding bouquet. Include the meaning behind your flowers in the ceremony program so your guests can share in your “secret” message.

Use family heirlooms as props and décorEclectic décor that brings the feeling of home to the event is so very popular. One wonderful way to make your wedding reception reflect who you are as a couple and your families’ traditions is to borrow family heirlooms and antiques and incorporate them into the décor of your event. Cake plates, candleholders, linens and picture frames, to name a few, can all be used to bring a sense of the past into the celebration of your future.

INSPIRED DESIGN

THE ART OF OMBRE WRITTEN BY KATE MILLER

Inspired by my husband’s recent love of rock hounding and the appearance of rough geodes and crystals in current interior design, we designed this conceptual shoot to feature two specific trends: geodes and gradients. A palette of Granite Grey, Deep Aubergine, Amethyst, Citrine and White. We wanted to keep it modern and fresh while still portraying the textural aspects of the geodes.

We started with a tablescape covered with a crushed velvet linen reminiscent of a rough rock exterior and topped it with a cascading gradient floral arrangement. Our chargers and stemware brought bright pops of citrine to the table and we topped each place setting with a hand-painted menu and geode slice paperweight. Selenite votives were sprinkled amongst the glassware. Chiffon chair covers completed the look and continued the gradient trend for the Bride and Groom’s chairs. Our cake table featured a gorgeous cake with a gradient fondant finish, it’s top layer entirely encrusted with rock candy, accented by sugar crystal flowers and sitting on a translucent sugar base.

Our beverage table contained a three-layer welcome beverage bar that also conveyed the gradient theme and offered guests chilled ice water, lavender lemon spritzer or a deep plum cocktail. The beverage dispenser sat atop a base of gorgeous florals and was flanked by citrine glassware accented with a single rock candy stir stick for easy sweetening.

Our escort cards and table number were laser cut semi-translucent white acrylic. The escort cards were hand painted by our stationery designer and then calligraphy was added to feature each guests’ name and table. The invitation suite and signage were all hand-painted with gorgeous shimmery colors.

The bride wore a beautiful gown that reflected the textural rock theme with it’s sweeping trumpet skirt accented by taffeta rosettes and rhinestones. She accessorized her dress with a grey felt hat, a custom-made floral fascinator with matching shoe clips and druzy amethyst, citrine, amazonian geode, crystal and gemstone jewelry. The groom wore a slim grey suit with a yellow linen bowtie and reversible pocket square.
