Alden Primary School K-2 Home Study Art Project Week #4 Primary Color Art Hi, Artists! How is everyone holding up? I miss all of you and I hope you and your families are doing well and staying healthy! Before we start this week’s project, let’s take a moment to think about last week’s project (design an Easter egg or design a flowerpot). What was your favorite part? Why was that your favorite? What was the most difficult part for you? How did you overcome that? Did you like how it turned out? Why or why not? This week, we are going to be using only the 3 primary colors! That’s right- just 3 colors! Do you remember what the 3 primary colors are? I can’t wait to see what you’ve created! If you want to share it with me, you can send a picture to my e-mail: [email protected] or tag my Instagram account @mrs.comettosart. I’d love to see your hard work! Please make your picture in the sketchbook that you created the first week. This way, everything is in one safe place. Thanks!

Home Study Art Project Week #4

Primary Color Art

Hi, Artists!

Thanks!

Materials Needed:

• Your Sketchbook (made the first week) • Pencil • Red, yellow and blue markers (water-based or washable

preferred) • *If you don’t have markers, you can use crayons, color pencils or

paint • Optional: paint brush and water

Suggested Timeline:

This art project can be done in one sitting if that works best for your schedule. However, if you prefer to do a little bit each day, here’s a suggested timeline:

Day 1: Review the 3 primary colors. What are the 3 primary colors? Why do we call them the primary colors? If you mix 2 primary colors together, what do you make?

Here’s some fun videos we’ve watched in art about the primary colors:

Day 2: Now that you did a lot of review of the primary colors, it’s time to start making your art. What are you going to make a picture of? Your hand? Popsicles? A heart? It’s totally up to you! Draw a picture in your sketchbook. Think about how you want to color and design your picture. Remember, you are only using red, yellow and blue (the 3 primary colors!)

Day 3 and 4: Let’s get coloring and decorating. This may go quickly, or it may take you a little longer, depending on how much detail you want to do. Maybe you color your shape on day 3, but day 4 you decorate your background.

Day 5: If you have a paint brush at home and you used markers, this is a super fun part! Using just a paint brush and water, you’ll carefully turn your marker into paint. If you carefully mix 2 primary colors together, you’ll make a secondary color! But be careful that you don’t paint too much- your paper may rip or you may make “mud!”

Primary Color Art

There are 3 primary colors- red, yellow and blue. Can you make an artwork using only the 3 primary colors? Let’s see you try!

What you make a picture of is totally up to you! Here’s some of mine:

And here’s some other ideas I found online:

Who knew there were so many cool pictures that you could make using just 3 colors!?!

Page 5: Alden Primary School K-2 Home Study Art Project Week #4 … · 2020. 5. 5. · • Red, yellow and blue markers (water-based or washable preferred) • *If you don’t have markers,

1. Draw your picture- remember, you can draw a picture of anything you would like! It’s OK to use a tracer for help, like I used my hand or how I made a tracer out of cardboard to make sure my popsicles were the same size and shape. A parent or sibling can help with this

2. Decorate your picture or color it using only the primary colors. I used markers, but you may want to use crayons or even paint.

3. You’re all done, if you want to be But if you used markers and want to try something really cool, go onto step 4!

4. Use water and a paint brush to carefully turn your markers into paint. I just dip my brush in plain, clean water and then paint on my marker- it turns into watercolor paints! When I get to where 2 primary colors meet on my picture, I carefully blended the 2 colors with my paint brush to make a secondary color. Just be careful you don’t over paint- you may rip your paper or make “mud.”
