Principal’s Report
Twelve Months Later!
The last of the fencing for the landscaping project
undertaken by the Department of Education was
removed this morning.
For now we have asked our students to not play in the
garden beds or on the new lawn due to the underground
computerised watering system.

Digital Technologies Curriculum
The Victorian Curriculum F–10 sets out what every
student should learn during their first eleven years of
schooling. The curriculum is the common set of
knowledge and skills required by students for life-long
learning, social development and active and informed
citizenship.
The Victorian Curriculum F–10 incorporates the
Australian Curriculum and reflects Victorian priorities
and standards. A new aspect of the Victorian
Curriculum is the inclusion of Digital Technologies.
Last Wednesday all teachers attended a Professional
Development activity at Sandringham SC to learn more
about this new curriculum area. The focus was ‘Digital
Technologies’ presented by Mathew Vines. He
explained the difference between ICT: using technology
and DigiTech: understanding technology in a very clear
and concise manner.
The Digital Technologies Curriculum differs from the
previous ICT strand.
ICT is when our students use technology e.g. ipads and
laptops and DigiTech is when our students learn to
understand the technology and its language.
Parent Evening
The school would like to extend a huge thank you to a
local psychologist, Kim Sheppard
(www.coolkidclinic.com.au). Kim kindly donated her time
to present to over 50 of our school community parents
on the topic of ‘Anxiety in Children: Strategies for
Parents’. Kim’s presentation outlined the effects of
anxiety, how it is impacting on our children and
concentrated on giving parents lots of strategies and
techniques to try at home. Some of her helpful links and
resources included:
Books:
- Helping Your Anxious Child. (Lyneham, Wignall and
Rapee, 2008)
- Hey Warrier. Karen Young (2017)
- Zones of Regulation. Leah Kuypers (2011)
WEBSITES
- Social Thinking (unthinkables) Michelle Garcia

Year 3 Science Incursion
The Year 3’s are currently looking at how cultures
change over time in our Unit of Inquiry – “Where we are
in place in time”. We are focussing on Aboriginal
culture and on Thursday 18 of May the Year 3’s
participated in a Virtual Reality incursion. The students
were able to experience dreamtime stories, Aboriginal
dancing and learn about their instruments and food in a
Virtual world. In a seated position, the students were
able to move their heads around to experience the
outback first hand.
Our school is currently researching the possible
purchase of a class set of glasses for our students to
explore the “virtual world” as a component of our
approach to the digital technologies.
District Cross Country 2017
On Thursday 18 May we had 70 students from Year 4 -
6 compete in the District Cross Country Event against 7
other schools within our area (Black Rock,
Sandringham PS, East Sandringham, Brighton,
Brighton Beach, Beaumaris and Hampton).

the podium to receive the District Cross Country trophy.
A fantastic achievement from all competitors who

The top 10 runners from each age group for boys and

rigorous and rewarding 6 week unit of work where all
students progressed with their handstands, cartwheels,

from Sporting schools come out and assist our students
in their movement . Thanks Sara from CYC and Curtis

Uniform Shop
The cold weather is starting to set in and now is the
perfect time to purchase your winter uniform. The
easiest way to order is through Qkr!>School
Uniforms>Uniforms and we will deliver to your child’s
classroom on either a Wednesday or Friday (depending
on when we receive your order).
If you prefer personal shopping we are open on Friday
mornings from 8.45 to 9.30am. This is the best time to
check out our second hand items as these aren’t
available to order via Qkr!. The Uniform Shop is located
in the Prep Breezeway.

We currently have very limited stock of a super-duper
bargain. Long sleeved Polo in GREEN, SIZE 12 ONLY

under the winter pinafore. It is priced at $15. Sizes
available are 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14.
Clearly labelling your child’s garments, especially
jackets and tops gives a much better chance of the
garment being returned if it is found and placed in the
Lost Property bin. Please see attached flyer explaining
how “clearly labelled” is defined.
Lost Property clean out Friday 26 May
This is another reminder about our clean out of Lost
Property tomorrow. All clearly labelled garments will be
returned to their owners, all unlabelled items will be
donated to the Uniform Shop. Please check the Lost
Property bins in the Prep breezeway before tomorrow if
you have recently lost an item. Please ensure all items
are returned to the bins and not left lying on the ground.
I would like to thank all of our volunteers who keep our
Shop and Lost Property operating and who without, the
school parent community, would not receive these
important services.
Mandy Davids, Julie Laurent, Bec Levant-Feldman,
Maria Angeletos, Louise Spink, Natalie Judd, Jo Perret,
Fleur Turner, Laura Russell, Natalie Bowerman and
Claire Nicholls. If you would like to volunteer in the
