NCHEA SCHOLARSHIPCAPE FEAR FIELD TRIP

On April 24, Alex Harwell (NCHEA Associate Board Member Elect) and Dona Noblett (NCHEA Event Planner) had a field trip to Cape Fear Community Col-lege (CFCC).

Meeting and tours were fantastic, students seemed genuinely interested. We toured through classrooms and labs actively underway with students, had a lunch networking session with a group of engineering tech students where we talked about the healthcare engineering industry as a whole, and met with the faculty leadership. All the CFCC staff were very engaged with their students and their students success.

We worked out some of the details to accomplish the first NCHEA Scholarship. CFCC will be working on generating a list of recommended students for our consideration based on our criteria and faculty feedback. When we arrived, CFCC already had a packet and Scholar-ship Application ready for the students we met with. We’ll have our list of students by June 1st. continued on page 3

Once we have the list in-hand, we as a committee will review and select as many students as we want to split the $10K. This is up to us, it can be 2 or 3, or all of them, and we can base it on the candidate pool. We will need to have the students selected by July 1st.

We will be inviting students to attend our Wednesday, Opening Ceremony and all education sessions as well as Exhibit area. Gary Milewski, NCHEA President (and other board members) will have lunch with the students and Gary will be assigning liaisons to each of the 10 selected attendees for the Wednesday event. The liaisons will be responsible for guiding the students through the conference and keeping them flowing.

At the Business Meeting on Friday, August 10, we will have a short scholarship award ceremony. Student recipients will be announced and representatives from CFCC leadership and student recipients will speak.

NCHEA SCHOLARSHIPCAPE FEAR FIELD TRIP

One of the many benefits of being a full member of NCHEA is receiving the CHE and SrHE designations. To receive these designations will require some work on your part, but it’s worth it. If you’ve been a full member for at least four years and have attended the spring and annual meetings you are well on your way. When you become a CHE your recognized at the Annual Banquet where you will receive a beautiful plaque and lapel pin.

To see if you meet the criteria you can go to www.nchea.com sign in, and go to the members section and open the certifications tab. You can print the applica-tion for the CHE and SrHE certifications. Review the requirements to see how many points you have. Submission packets are due by July 1st. I would encourage you to start today and get them submitted. If you have any questions about the CHE or SrHE designations don’t hesitate to call William Baird (828-406-5422) or email [email protected].

2018 ANNUAL CONFERENCE & EXHIBITIONWILMINGTON, NC AUGUST 7- 10, 2018 Board Meeting - Mon, August 6 Golf - August 7

Our 2018 Spring Seminar was a tremendous success- a big thank you to all of our speakers, sponsors and attendees! I have received lots of positive feedback on the program from our membership, and the evaluations showed a high level of satisfaction with both the content and quality of the presentations. Bronkar Lee gave us an excellent keynote, and there is a good possibility we will see him again soon (in a slightly different capacity), so stay tuned!

The program for our Annual Conference in Wilmington is coming together nicely, and I think you will find it just as informative and engaging as our sessions at Pinehurst. Details are forthcoming but I encourage all of you to make arrangements to join us August 7-11 and be a part of what is sure to be a fantastic event. Again, thank you for your support of NCHEA and I look forward to seeing everyone soon.
