Yes No

What education, work experience, volunteer experience or life experience do you bring?

Throughout my formal education, internships, and personal time I’ve developed an enjoyment of readingand consuming information. The main skill I have learned is synthesizing different facts and concepts intoa coherent message. In my economic courses I learned to pull from a set of statistics a story that could beused to create policy. In my philosophy courses I understood any position could be argued articulatelyand convincingly, so it is important to be informed and to be confident in what you believe. But, ultimatelyimproving the life of people and changing the community requires humility and an understanding thatactual people are behind all the spreadsheets and legislation. I worry about the future of The UnitedStates. In one of the richest countries in the world, full of educated people, we should be doing more. Iplan to use my education and skills to make the world around me a better place.

Describe your understanding of the concerns and issues facing the Board/s you wish toserve on.

The Portland Metro area is growing, and as much as growth brings positive change it also brings negativechanges. I want to be on the boards to help increase the positive changes whilst keeping the negative to aminimum.

Why are you interested in serving on the Board/s you are applying for?

I am excited to work with community partners on addressing housing in Washington County. As aphysician I see firsthand the opportunities stable housing provides for my patients. I often struggle to helpmy patients find housing resources and I would love to take a more proactive role in addressinghomelessness in our community. I think I bring a unique perspective working in healthcare and seeing theways that housing instability affects all aspects of people's lives.

Are you interested in other volunteer opportunities?

If you are interested in other opportunities, may we contact you?

Yes No

What education, work experience, volunteer experience or life experience do you bring?

I am a family medicine physician and spend my days working with lower income patients at a communityclinic in Hillsboro. My job often entails addressing social needs such as housing and transportation forpatients in order to help them meet their health goals. Recently I started a work group to develop ourclinic's social determinants of health screening tool in order to better connect our patients to communityresources. I have volunteered in free clinics and worked with high needs communities for over 10 yearsnow and am excited to bring this experience to this committee.

Describe your understanding of the concerns and issues facing the Board/s you wish toserve on.

Unstable housing is a complex problem that affects individuals' access to other resources such ashealthcare, employment and a variety of social services. Currently the waitlist for subsidized housing isseveral years long and the current need for housing well exceeds the available options. With the currentCOVID-19 pandemic unemployment has risen and the number of people experiencing housing instabilityis rising. Washington County created this committee to bring together community members to helpaddress these issues.

I would say one of the single most impactful and challenging issues we face in this field is funding. Itpermeates social services and impacts what we are able to provide to folks, how we can go aboutproviding it and creates red tape and barriers to providing those services. It impacts staffing and whetheror not we have clinicians and staff and whether or not their caseload is sustainable. It impacts continuityof care and consistency in the care folks receive.

Why are you interested in serving on the Board/s you are applying for?

I love Washington County and have lived in the region for most of my life. Those suffering withhomelessness is a real and pervasive issue that must be addressed. I would love to help be part of theplanning to resolve it.

Are you interested in other volunteer opportunities?

Yes No

If you are interested in other opportunities, may we contact you?

Yes No

What education, work experience, volunteer experience or life experience do you bring?

I have been involved in Washington County activities for many years. I was the Marketing Director of theOregon International Air Show for seven years and was a Court-Appointed Special Advocate for theWashington County Juvenile System for several years as well. I served on the Oregon Youth SoccerAssociation board as their marketing manager and was the Vice Chair for my children's school board for 4years. My current position allows me to not only provide marketing in support of outreach and health careinitiatives, I am also able to partner with other community organizations to enact change and advocate forothers in need.

Describe your understanding of the concerns and issues facing the Board/s you wish toserve on.

Homelessness is not new to our community and the numbers are growing. While Washington Countymay feel removed from this issue for many residents, it is not. To add to the urgency, the pandemic hasincreased the reality of homelessness for many and placed a massive burden on those already on theedge. As it continues, more will find themselves struggling with the decisions between paying rent orbuying food. Washington County has no permanent homeless shelter and while Multnomah County maybear the largest population of those struggling with homelessness right now, we need to be prepared foran increase in our community. Taking steps today will allow us to address the systemic barriers that keeppeople homeless and ensure that those who may be at risk in the future have alternatives. Strongpartnerships with other organizations and communities of color are critical to the success of any plan.
