• Alexander Graham Bell is most famous for his invention of the telephone
• Bell was also a teacher for people who were deaf and mute
Background
• Alexander Graham Bell was born in Scotland in 1847
• Bell moved to America in 1871
• He began work on his first invention at the age of 12
• His family and close friends called him Aleck
The Telephone
• Bell was interested in speech and sound because both his mother and wife were deaf
• The first words transmitted across the telephone were, “Watson, come here; I want you”
How Has the Telephone Made Life Better?
• The telephone makes it easier to communicate
• If there is an emergency, dial 911 on the telephone for help
What I Learned:
• Alexander Graham Bell was very smart
• Bell thought it was important to help teach the deaf and mute
• He invented many things, including the telephone
