a bold modern homage to
historic architecture
Referencing the historic surrounding terraces
and warehouses which are so prolific in
Alexandria, Bennett Murada Architects have
created a development which is visionary
in its modernity yet sits perfectly within the
heritage landscape. Teracôta’s selection of
boutique residences reflects the changing
face of the area – a creative urban hub
where innovation in design is celebrated
and residential living embraces fresh ideas.

Both the name and aesthetic direction of
the development were inspired by a particular
terracotta feature brick, which references
back to the red brickwork of the site’s original
warehouse and surrounding heritage buildings.
This triangular-shaped cut-out terracotta block
was used to create a unique contemporary
screen wall between the building’s façade
and the street, throwing visually interesting
shadows into the residences.

The vision was to create a different
typology for a residential building – one
that had a layering to the street and was a
nod to the area’s warehouses. The façade
elements are truly unique, as are the
internal offerings. A hybrid of residences,
from apartments to townhouses and
penthouses, caters to a variety of buyers,
showcasing a rarely experienced standard
of design and finishes. A landscaped
central courtyard provides a communal
sanctuary from the urban environment.

townhouses over two and three levels. Additionally, one and
two bedroom apartments give buyers an opportunity to

eight dramatic penthouses open to private rooftop terraces.
All residences come with basement security parking, lift access,
multi-zone air conditioning and double-glazed windows.

Floor to ceiling, wall to wall concertina or sliding glass
doors completely retract to create a seamless transition
between the entertaining spaces and the alfresco areas.
The balconies and terraces are framed by the terracotta
triangular brickwork which is so unique to this development,
punctuating the outdoor spaces with light while retaining
plenty of privacy and ample sun protection. Solid blackbutt
floors add warmth, floating staircases enhance light and
dimmable LED downlights create ambience.

TOWNHOUSE INTERNAL STAIR
A unique feature of Teracôta is the central
courtyard which acts as a focal point and softens
the building. Dotted with trees and aged brick
pathways, it provides a tranquil outlook for many
of the residences as well as a lovely place to
relax and unwind. Featuring designated seating
areas, expanses of lawn and gazebo shading, the
landscape approach complements the architecture
and recognises the post-industrial context.
