ALINJARRA PRIMARY SCHOOL Dear Parents and Caregivers A huge thank you to the families that completed the survey sent home with the last newsleer. At the same me we also surveyed students, and staff at Alinjarra Primary School. As a staff we have very briefly looked at the survey results. The results reaffirm that our school culture is a posive one that: creates a safe and supporve learning environment for our students; encourages posive partnerships; is student centred; warm and welcoming; and looks for ways to improve student success. When our School Council meets next Thursday 28 June we will be discussing the results and what they mean for us at APS. Over the coming weeks we will complete analysing the results and officially share and celebrate the results with students, staff and the school community. REPORTS Next week you will receive your child/children's reports. This is a good opportunity to start a conversaon with them about their learning. Here are some ps to help you with your conversaons: Stay Posive Praise your child for their improvements and achievements. Boost their self esteem by focussing on where they have tried their hardest or shown the most improvement. Focus on Effort not Grades When children are focused on the grade they achieve they lose the focus on learning. Their teacher's comments can oſten tell you more about their effort than the grades. Every Child is Different Its important not to compare your childs report to that of a sibling or friend. Your child is unique and shines in their own areas. Talk About It Talk to them about how they are feeling about school. What they think, their favourite learning areas and any concerns they may have. If they have concerns offer support to work out a plan to address them. Lastly their report will be a summary of areas they are doing well in and where they can improve. If you have any quesons or concerns about your childs report or progress please contact their teacher. They can tell you what they can do to support your them at school and how you can help at home. WINTER CARNIVAL Last week our Year 5 & 6 students represented Alinjarra Primary School at the Winter Carnival in netball, soccer and football. Not only was the weather sensaonal—our behaviour and sportsmanship was too. Teachers from other schools parcipang in the carnival commented on our studentswillingness to accept decisions from umpires and their displays of sportsmanship and encouragement. I was definitely proud of the great way they represented our school. Prior to the carnival I was also impressed with their preparaon. They organised training and worked on fine tuning their skills as a team to ensure their performance was of a high standard on the day. Well done to Nikki Ganz our PE specialist who organised the netball compeon for the Winter Carnival and to our Year 5 & 6 teachers: Laura Beahan, Sco Passmore and Mahew Wearing for their efforts in training our teams and coaching them at the carnival. We were also very lucky to have the support of parents: Shaun Deering who coached one of our netball teams; and Jason Kelly who looked aſter one of the soccer teams. They volunteered their me and we really appreciated their support. This year both our netball teams won the carnival, our football team came third and the soccer teams came second and third. Congratulaons to everyone involved in the day and to the parents and family members who went down to support our teams. Have a look at the photos of the day on Page 4 of this issue of the newsleer. Dear Parents and Caregivers A huge thank you to the families that completed the survey sent home with the last newsletter. At the same time we also surveyed students, and staff at Alinjarra Primary School. As a staff we have very briefly looked at the survey results. The results reaffirm that our school culture is a positive one that: creates a safe and supportive learning environment for our students; encourages positive partnerships; is student centred; warm and welcoming; and looks for ways to improve student success. When our School Council meets next Thursday 28 June we will be discussing the results and what they mean for us at APS. Over the coming weeks we will complete analysing the results and officially share and celebrate the results with students, staff and the school community. REPORTS Next week you will receive your child/children's reports. This is a good opportunity to start a conversation with them about their learning. Here are some tips to help you with your conversations:

Stay Positive Praise your child for their improvements and achievements. Boost their self esteem by focussing on where they have tried their hardest or shown the most improvement.

Focus on Effort not Grades When children are focused on the grade they achieve they lose the focus on learning. Their teacher's comments can often tell you more about their effort than the grades.

Every Child is Different It’s important not to compare your child’s report to that of a sibling or friend.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s report or progress please contact their teacher. They can tell you what they can do to support your them at school and how you can help at home. WINTER CARNIVAL Last week our Year 5 & 6 students represented Alinjarra Primary School at the Winter Carnival in netball, soccer and football. Not only was the weather sensational—our behaviour and sportsmanship was too. Teachers from other schools participating in the carnival commented on our students’ willingness to accept decisions from umpires and their displays of sportsmanship and encouragement. I was definitely proud of the great way they represented our school. Prior to the carnival I was also impressed with their preparation. They organised training and worked on fine tuning their skills as a team to ensure their performance was of a high standard on the day. Well done to Nikki Ganz our PE specialist who organised the netball competition for the Winter Carnival and to our Year 5 & 6 teachers: Laura Beahan, Scott Passmore and Matthew Wearing for their efforts in training our teams and coaching them at the carnival. We were also very lucky to have the support of parents: Shaun Deering who coached one of our netball teams; and Jason Kelly who looked after one of the soccer teams. They volunteered their time and we really appreciated their support. This year both our netball teams won the carnival, our football team came third and the soccer teams came second and third. Congratulations to everyone involved in the day and to the parents and family members who went down to support our teams. WANTED—SECOND HAND UNIFORMS The office is on the look out for donations of second hand uniforms that we are able to use as spares for children when unexpected accidents occur. Alternatively if you have any items that your children have outgrown, the uniform shop gratefully accept second hand uniforms to re-sell at a nominal amount.

LOCAL POLICE STATION CHANGES As you will be aware, the Western Australian Police Force is currently undergoing a major restructure that will see the current four (4) policing districts expanded to eight (8). This restructure will result in some changes to boundaries for local policing sub-districts. As of Monday 16 July 2018 Alexander Heights will now be policed by Warwick Police Station and no longer under the responsibility of Ballajura Police Station. CAR PARKING REMINDER Parents are reminded of the significant issues that are experienced with car parking in and around the school. We continue to receive feedback about the poor driving habits being practised by some of our parents around the school. Parents parking across paths, parking in restricted areas and vehicles failing to follow basic road rules are a few of the main issues. To assist parents and to keep our students safe, our school operates a dedicated “kiss and drive” system, which operates on Adaia Drive. Parents are encouraged to use this system when dropping off their children in the morning and/or collecting their children in the afternoon. Afternoon pick-ups are always supervised by a member of our staff, so your children are always safe until you arrive. A dedicated car park is provided for parents of kindergarten and pre-primary students (off Avila Way) , who must drop-off and pick-up their children directly to and from their classrooms. This car park is NOT for general use. Do not use this car park as a general drop-off or pick-up point – it is not safe. The safety of your children and our students is paramount.
